Since starting TRT (7 months in) my partner says I have been snoring way more, regardless of the position I sleep in. Ive read that sleep apnea and snoring is common or men on TRT. what is the reason/physiology behind this?

Yep. I've had the bmi convo with a few other friends who report similarly. When my bmi goes up I snore, but just a little, when I lean out, it totally goes away. If I have more than 16% bodyfat, and lay on my back, or have my head angled upwards, mild snoring is almost guaranteed. And, for me, this is also age-related. A younger, fatter me never snored ever.

I’ve worked in sleep medicine for 15 years...

Interested to hear other contributing factors.

Mrs. E has been saying the same thing to me since starting TRT. It got really bad the first few weeks of my last cycle. I think that was a combo of weight gain and a mild reaction to a new brand of test - I think I had some lymph inflammation.

I know that I should go for a sleep study, but with the pandemic rules and having little kids, I’m kicking that can down the road.

I did buy a mouth guard that helps keep my jaw and tongue in a better place and it really seemed to help. I used it for a few weeks and kid of forgot about it. I think it worked like a back brace to improve posture, just inside my airway. I will still go get a legitimate medical evaluation at some point, but very happy with the results from the mouth guard.

I have heard this alot with guys on trt as well as ringing of the ear.. I too had this issue of snoring. My chiropractor adjusted my neck and no more ringing of the ear or snoring. I visit my chiropractor once a month to keep things in order

On a side note, if you notice in ur labs your hematocrit and hemoglobin creeping up...AND ALL other avenues have been explored....don't rule out obstructive sleep apnea as a cause. Chronic oxygen deprivation will elevate these numbers...obviously along with other more common factors such as, dehydration, too high of trt dose, genetic predisposition for erythrocytosis or hematochromatosis,etc...if on a budget and or no insurance, you can find cheap cpaps on craigslist vs having to go to sleep study...its just pressurized air...that medical lobbyists push to have a script for. Usually these are also good for example, pilots and truck drivers whose livelihood depends on not having a diagnosis for OSA, etc or anyone not wanting to take a hit on insurance policies due to obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis.

No aspirin here
PDE5 inhbitors like cialis and viagra can also cause it too...along with a myriad of other conditions from seasonal allergies to prediabetes/metabolic syndrome, to a long list of other meds as well.

Why kick it down the road? Your health should be a priority.
