Smith machines are useless, unless you like injuries. It stabilizes the bar so you do not have to...
 
However, if I had a Smith Machine at my house, it would come in great use...because the lil lady is running out of things to hang her clothes on. The elliptical she needed. It just sits there and dries clothes...

Exactly how I injured my back 12 years ago, doing squats with piss poor form, due to me moving to the machines mechanics, as opposed to the bar moving to my mechanics.

I hate those things for anything except narrow grip bench press to burn my tri's.

Only thing I ever use it for sometimes is to try to reach the upper and inner portion of the pectorals. Using light weight and taking advantage of the stabilization seemed to work alright.

But I think I found something better for the same purpose: pushups with an exaggerated elbow flare, where your head comes down below where your hands are positioned on the floor.

I'll have to try that, I've been doing pushups to failure at the end of chest day fairly rapidly (but with good control) to get the blood pumping into those sorely used pectorals. Perhaps it would be better if I went to a deeper down motion for some added stretch.

I hurt my back on the smith machine 2 years ago. Never done that again.

The only thing worse than watching someone do barbell squats with bad form is watching someone do smith machine squats with bad form.

That should work nicely. I also like cable-crossovers, and cable/db combo press, or even some dips leaning forward.

And add an isometric pause at the bottom.
 
then maybe just get a migrant farm worker for under each hand, they are usually pretty short.

only gives you a few inches, but thats enough to get a greater stretch and lord knows most of you could use an extra couple inches
 
Talking about bad form on squats. Do rather large, yet rotund gentlemen were doing squats Monday. At some point during my workout I hear very loud grunting and turn to discern the source of said grunting. Low and behold, these two idiots are 3" squatting 405, with the spotter literally plastered onto their ass to help them up for each rep. I mean it was unlock the knees, descend 1-2", then stand up and lock out the knees. Then I got to take a mental picture and plaster it with HUGE letters saying FAIL, when they failed to re-rack the weight and it crashed to the supporting bars on the squat rack. I even let out a little giggle.

I just giggled a little too...I also bet there legs were in a power lifting stance (wide). I see cats do this all the time...

My funniest is when some other guys were impressed when their buddy was going A2G on some Smith machine squats...
 
Meromero, quick kineseology question. When doing stiff legged deads to hit the hams and ass muscles, I've been placing my feet about shoulder width, or just a bit wider and pointing my toes out, much like the same stance I use for machine hack squats. It seems to hit my hams better than a more narrow, toes pointed straight stance.

Am I doing anything right here?

Also in addendum I have a wide stance when going to the bathroom, so never mind any shoe grabbing from under the stalls.
 
I have a question for you gents. I've noticed, more and more younger (under 21) gentlemen coming onto this site talking about how they need help because they've JUST realized that they've been taking steroids for the past 4-6 weeks. Most have the same story...Friend comes home from college, haven't seen him in a while, he got "jacked", asked him what did it, dude hands kid bottle of Superdrol/Pheraplex/Any other designer all stacked together. Now why doesn't anyone seem to question when someone hands them a bottle of "magic" pills that are going to make them huge? Is it because they really are that stupid? Is it a trust thing with this friend of theirs? Is it just plain ignorance to the fact that there are no products out there that will get you huge in a short time frame, except for steroids? I'm lost here. :fool2:

I think the real answer is becuase the stuff is sold as a "nutritional supplement", not as a "steroid". If it was sold as what it is, at least they might be scared enough. they have no reason to believe its any more dangerous than vitamin c

so we have the muscle to push people around.
now i intentionally bump into people (even elderly women) trying to start something.

I kid you not, some lady who if she wasn't walking I would have pronounced dead RAMMED me with her oxygen cart AFTER I moved out of her way. I moved, she followed me and purposely RAMMED me with her tank of oxygen, which was hooked to her decomposing face. She then made a scene, telling store employees that I "kicked" her oxygen tank. Mind you this was at a Best Buy...where they have wide aisles...and I was standing as close to the rack as possible to give her room. That pissed me off...I bet she does that on a regular basis as her afternoon fun.
