Whats decent Lifts/stats?

Hey guys,

Been doing powerlifting seriously for around 6 weeks now. Ive always loved liftin heavy as possible so I thought id take it up as well as bodybuilding.. Its difficult because I want to carry on my journey on getting as big as possible while still being lean (not shredded). I guess a Pete Rubish/ Dan Green physique only because they have brutal strength but don't look 'fat' (didn't want to use that word).

Anyway I was mainly wondering what sort of weight I should be aiming for at my current bodyweight of 185-190lb's.

Current Lifts-

Bench- 315lb (max)
Squat- Last PR was 405, but ive easily got a 440 in me.
Deadlift- 510lb (max)

Would I be classed as a real beginner at those weights? Or is its decent/pretty decent/ average etc.

Any help much appreciated guys.
What Id like to go for by this sort of time next year:
Or What should I be gunning for? Maybe that's a better question.

Bench- 405
Squat- 500
Deadlift- 600

how well you will do depends on the meet. in one meet you may win at another you may get last place. it all depends on who shows up that day.

your current total and BW puts you as a Class I lifter. keep in mind standards start at class 4 which is only an 822 at your bodyweight. you are 400lbs over that. if you want to get stronger then get on the platform. the biggest mistake everyone makes when getting started is not competing. until you do, you don't know what it takes. i did my first meet with a 329 sq, 209 bench, and 429 deadlift. it was a small local meet and i won my weight class too. i learn a lot!!!! been hooked ever since. done 7 more meets since then.

your goals would put in the Elite class. which would consist of the world's best. it is great to have goals but i think they are a bit ambitious. that is nearly 100lbs per lift and in a year, probably not going to happen unless it is your first year of lifting at all. you might, MIGHT, put on 100lbs to your total in a year. that is every reasonable. looking at a powerlifting program like the cube it is mentioned in its book that a great goal per 10 week cycle is to gain 5lbs per lift. that would be an addition to 15lbs on your total per cycle and 75lbs per year. most don't reach that much even.

i train with guys that compete in AAU, 100% raw, USAPL, and XPC. they range from Class II lifters to just shy of elite. for any of us if we put on 20lbs to a total we are ecstatic. it is hard to piece it all together to get PRs on each lift every meet. my experience is i would hit 1 PR per meet. sometimes not even that. my last meet was the first meet ever that i hit PRs on all lifts and of course a PR total. i dont expect to do that again for a long time.

do you know what organization you are going to compete in? that would be able to tell you how you stand. i pulled the above from the 100% raw standards. those are what i follow even though i compete mainly in AAU.

That's some amazing advice my man, Im glad to hear that I have some decent lifts for my weight.. That's a boost in confidence.

Also Like you said though you can only see in a comp how you fair against others/yourself.
Im also amazed to hear that 20lb on a total is something to dance about... Really surprised. Maybe my goals are a little too unrealistic then, either way it was good to know what id be expecting with progression.

Im currently running just Test C, so I would obviously need to enter a non tested competition. Unless I get my tolas up a little or at least stay at the same and enter a comp once all out of my system?
Ive never competed so really wouldn't know where to even begin. Any advise for that? Or just google for powerlifting meets near me?

Much appreciated my man.

Powerliftingwatch.com has a meet finder. That's your best bet

i'd say compete as soon as possible. some feds are a bit loose on testing. the only meets i have gone to where i know they tested was 100% raw. they test a few random people, those that set multiple records, and maybe 1 weight class winner. other meets i have gone to with other feds i don't know of anyone being tested. i'm sure asking around here or doing a google search can answer which feds would look the other way. looking on powerliftingwatch.com is a great way to find meets near you. most feds dont have meets all over. they seem to stick to certain areas. so check out the site and see what is nearby then search and ask about those feds.

Compete in a meet. Gym numbers are relative but don't really matter. Good goals for a 198 (your class) would be 350-450-550 for you I think. That would probably put you about average in the weight class maybe a little above.

Honestly don't worry about how good you are compared to everyone else. It's pointless. Become your own personal best. Best yourself. Start winning meets and then keep pushing for more if you want.

If you just want to know if your are strong or not, I would consider your lifts (assuming they would pass in a meet with good form) as fairly strong for your body weight.

Otherwise you have got some good advice in here already. I just wanted to add my bit. Check out PLwatch like herder said and get after it.

yes, pick a meet and just go for it.

imo first meets should be for experience not really for kickin ass and takin names. if you have never been up in front of people (coulb be upwords of 1000 people lookin at you) doin your thing you will never know how you take it. some raise above it other just cant take havein people watching them, cuz at that moment all eyes are on you.

imo, pic the next meet say 6wks out from now and do it.
