Whats casein? Do i need it?

basically casein is a slow digesting protein...it usually takes about 8 hours to completely digest.

I like to use casein protein at all times except post workout when you want a fast digesting protein.
 
casein is not crucial. its a slow digesting protein, that's usually taken at night.

it will aid recovery
it will help you wake up with more energy
it will help put on size

but no, its not the most important thing. whey protein + waxy maize starch is more important, if taken pre and post workout. and its cheaper.

IMO, the heirarchy of natural supplements are
whey protein
fast carbs
multi vitamin
zma
creatine (if you respond)
casein
bcaa's / eaa's
beta alanine

In my opinion. at your height and weight, your diet and training is a far more important thing to look at. could you post it for me?

suncloud has a great point! at your height and weight you should get most of your protein from whole foods and only supplement protein pre and post workout!

as he mentioned a shake of whey and WMS would be great post workout (within your anabolic window) to spike your insulin levels and provide your muscles with the nutrients required to grow.

if you're goal is to put on some size then I recommend: chicken, steak, salmon, tuna, lots of whole wheat stuff (pasta, etc), oats, natty peanut butter, etc...did I mention steak?!?!? :-)

WMS is a quick digesting carb, when used post workout it can provide the insulin spike like sugar without the bloating of dextrose or Malto.
