What do you guys mix with cottage cheese?

It's pretty good with cereal. If your diet lets you have those extra carbs, CC and Cheerios pretty much tastes like a bowl of cheerios /w milk.

I tried 1/2 cup in a bowl of Raisin Bran & skim milk and it was delicious. The taste wasn't noticeable and the texture actually made it better. I'm impressed. Why didn't I think of this?

not sure if this was said. but salsa! then eat it with chips like a dip. saw my mom doing this one day and tried it, its really good. i dont realy like cottage cheese but can go threw 2 cups with ease eating it this way.

I was in a creative/daring mood this evening.

1 cup cottage cheese
1-2 TBS Unsweetened cocoa
A dash of vanilla flavoring
2 packets of splenda

It's like a chunky, dark chocolate pudding-wannabe

add a cup of liquid to that bad boy (preferably milk) and place in the freezer for like 35-40 minutes and it gets to be a pudding-like consistency with a greater quantity to enjoy!

For Chocolate and Peanut Butter lovers, nothing beats this:

Im not big on cottage cheese and although I can gag it down I was wondering if anyone had any good recipe's for those late night snacks right before bedtime that will make eating some cottage cheese better and hopefully easier?? :)
Try Ricotta cheese.

Isn't this very similar to cottage cheese?
Yes it is, but tastes much better. It is actually more concentrated (less wet). 1/4 cup Ricotta = 1/2 cup cottage cheese. Very similar macros.

although the macros are very similar, ricotta has a much higher concentration of whey to casein than cottage cheese.

I bet ya guys will never think twice before picking up cottage cheese when grocery shopping.

Protein Pancakes:

1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup cottage cheese
4 egg whites
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
cinnamon to taste

Blend everything in a blender. Spray pan with cooking oil. Eat with whatever the hell you like.

It's been a breakfast of mine for a while now. Simply marvelous with a protein punch it packs.

You can add it to instant pudding(w/ a blender) and you'll never taste it. You can add some extra whey powder too, it's real tasty.

For a somewhat "dirty" bulking snack/meal, get a container of those cold mayonnaise salads at your grocery store (macaroni salad, spring salad, potato salad, etc) and stir a bunch of fat free cottage cheese into it. Just be careful not to overdo it cause those salads usually have a high amount of soybean oil (very little saturated fat though and no trans fat). It's very very delicious and again you can't taste the cottage cheese and it doesn't seem to change the texture. Very easy, very quick dense calories and a hell of a lot better for you than McDonalds. :)

o my, cottage cheese is pretty knarly tasting, i had to add some trader joe's reduced sugar blueberry puree

Smuckers makes a couple of diiferent flavors of sugarfree jam that tastes really good in cottage cheese. I also have eaten it with extra lean turkey bacon and it was awesome, but I kinda like the taste of caottage cheese.

Nutrition content

I agree with you. I thought I was loodsing it when I saw 100 cals for both:-)
40 grams of protein alone is 160 cals.
My calculations for 4oz CC and 4oz tuna:
Total: 220
Fat: 1 12
Sat: 1 5
Poly: 0 4
Mono: 0 3
Carbs: 2 8

For me, cottage cheese and anything iss great. Just had it actually with oats, bt I made the oats seperate with cinnanmon and stevia placed them in the fridge to chill for 20 then I ate my cottage cheese and put some stevia and cinnamon in there. This is a great meal anytime.

I also eat cc a lot with black beans and a tbsp of salsa..try it

Is there a cottege cheese sold in local grocerys stores that has zero carbs? Have yet to one one

what about ricotta cheese does it have carbs? Would think so but...

Fat free cottage cheese has only 2 per 1 cup. That is nothing. Ricotta has around 5. If you mix both with protein it won't really matter. Plus it is whey protein in both cheeses

not sure if this is possible unless extreme processing/microfiltering techniques are used. its pretty low carb to begin with so i doubt any manufacturer will adopt this concept. looks like we just gotta take the lactose with it

Mine says 5 carbs for every 12 grams of protein.Coburn Farms brand and another brand, its a pink container, forget the name of it, dont have it here in front of me. When you are on a calorie restricted diet all this matters. Casein protein is the best protein before bed , as its one of the slowest digesting proteins . Fact When cutting Calorie counting is important, Ill keep eating Cottege cheese before bed due to the fact its slow digesting and imo tasty. Cinn mixed is good. cinn improves insulin function

I had a crazy idea and went with it tonight:

Some canned pumpkin mash
Cottage cheese (of course)
Cinnamon
Ginger
Splenda

Is Ricotta better than Cottage cheese and how is the taste? Also is there any thing better than Ricotta then?

Ricotta is the bomb....If you mix it with protein it taste like a cheesecake.....Remember to use fat free

Do they even make fat-free ricotta? I've looked several times for it at the local grocery store, and have come up empty-handed every time :(

:jaw: hopefully you arent cutting...

Actually lean gain/cut. It's not bad! 24g healthy fat 72g protein 30g carbs... 624 cals AND I eat about 3500 cals a day (obviously not all meals have that much fat but I do go fat heavy and carb light). I also weight about 210 with pretty low BF (would guess 10-12)

Last night I took one cup of cottage cheese (I use small curd), 3/4 scoop of vanilla whey, some vanilla extract and cinnamon. I did actually enjoy the taste, but I just can't get over the texture so I just may stick to keeping cottage cheese for the home-made shakes.

What kinda cottage cheese shakes do you make? I've had terrible success with making shakes with cottage cheese, they always come out tasting terrible.

I've never actually made a shake with cottage cheese as the main protein source. I usually just use the regular ingredients for a homemade shake (skim milk, cocoa or frozen fruit, maybe some oatmeal, maybe some egg whites or whey, maybe some extra fiber), then just add half a cup of cottage cheese (or more). It blends in well and you can't taste it. Just another cheap casein protein source that's more dense than milk.

My tried and true nightly meal consists of
8 spoonfuls of cottage cheese
3 teaspoons of natty pb
1 pack of splenda
cinnammon
1 scoop of choc. protein pwdr
stir and let sit in freezer for a few minutes to thicken consistency.

i use the same base and add whatever im in the mood for. my base is usually:

1/2 cup nonfat cottage cheese
1/2 cup nonfat greek style yogurt (high protein, low carb)
1-1.5 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (3g fat, 1g carb per cup)
1/2-1 cup water
1/4 tsp xanthan gum for thickness and s smooth consistency
enough ice cubes to make it resemble a smoothie

from this, ill add whatever. banana, peanut butter, strawberries, unsweetend cocoa, honey, or whatever im in the mood for. lastly, i own most varieties of BSL and true protein premium flavor packs. since these smoothies contain a lot of protein already, i just use the flavoring instead of the protein powder. although, adding 1 scoop of sustain peanut butter fudge protein makes this my favorite treat.

  • 2.5-3 cups of 2% milk
  • 1 scoop of vanilla whey
  • 1 cup of cottage cheese (small curd)
  • 3.5-4 tblsp of peanut butter (smooth)
  • 10-15 frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup of vanilla bean ice cream
  • BLEND :D

The only thing that changes is sometimes I will use frozen strawberries, and every now and again I throw in a banana. But usually I get a liquid taste of a mix between a Reese's/Twix.

I buy mine at Giant Eagle in OH, but they do have it in Va, and Maryland. Look hard for it and also ask the dairy guys... They may be able to order it for you. Good Luck
