Weights up, scales down…

Had a pounding headache this morning, went away after some coffee. Just couldn’t seem to get firing, everything felt heavy. Bench was horrible. Was thinking I didn’t need a deload now I’m second guessing. Don’t know if it was just a rough morning and 2 days of not doing **** or what.

seems like a copout but I know this is exactly how i felt yesterday. you're quite a bit colder than us, we got down to I think 3F "feels like" with windchill. my hands turned all scaly and dry. pulling 65% of my 1rm yesterday seemed like cake, suddenly pulling 75% of my 1rm felt like misery, sore hands, tired, just couldn't fire. I am thinking the cold weather is taking it's toll. I know I have been hauling a lot of wood, I had some pipes freeze I had to fix, multiple trips per day out to the chicken coop to give them fresh water since it's frozen in an hour, etc.

You definitely did more then I did I took the dogs out for bathroom trips and that was about it. Also could be my calorie intake was pretty low sat/Sunday because I was doing nothing. Hard telling.

I remember going out I e fishing and snowboarding and snowmobiling back in the day, cold eh that meant nothing 😂

now I’m like yeah not today, oh hello coffee pot my old friend.

Had some brutal winters in MT/ND when I was crushing rocks. I don’t miss that **** lol. The weather that is…..
Montana is great, don’t move there

I remember as a kid playing pond hockey between ice fishing trap flags flyin and getting frost bite and not even caring it was happening It’s 26 here today. I’m plugging in an electric space heater in garage w 1hr lead time for my workout later.
times have changed 😂

First “home ice” was an outdoor rink w a bubble over it. Halfway through the season bubble rips and now it’s an outdoor rink. We had practice daily after school if it was raining we had to go to library and wait for the “late bus”.

^This guy gets it lol. -9 chill right now at the warmest part of our day.

The cold definitely takes a toll though. Need a bit more food & sleep - it does wear on you. I just cleaned my battery terminals/cables outside while the wife is at work so I can try to jump it again when she’s home. But I realized it’s leaking, so it needs replaced very soon whether it starts or not.

If you think about when you get them cleaned up and all. When your at the auto parts store looks for some anti corrosion they make it in a spray but I never like the spray as much as they make one in like a little bottle with a brush. More precise application and it works good. I take the cables off clean them all up and then apply and re install cables. I try to do it every fall if I remember.

Oh also if it’s not a huge pain in the a$$ if you take your battery out and keep it in the garage so it gets warm it will probably jump a lot easier.

I think you actually burn more calories when it’s cold. But I could be wrong

Yeah, I am glad I am not somewhere that cold or at least new to somewhere that cold. After a little while you build up more brown fats and it is easier on you but when you ain't used to it and don't have that brown fat to warm you up it the cold is brutal. When I came down here I wore shorts, tanks and flops all throughout winter. Gradually I lost that brown fat and now I get cold so much easier. Might as well be a native Texan at this point.

Yeah you do for sure, at least at rest when in the cold, the body has to work harder to maintain temperature while you are cold.

That’s very true it’s like when I would be in the north country and then a job would start in Texas, I was dying The entire time because I was just not used to the heat. So id imagine the flip side would be equally just as bad.

No doubt, and if not used to humidity you can actually feel the thickness of depending on if you were close to the gulf, it is downright oppressive at times. Sometimes even us Texans walk outside, feel that and say nope, and go right back in to make new plans. Ain't nobody trying to spend all day outside feeling like they are in a wet sauna.

San Angelo, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Zapata, Killeen, Odessa. The towns close to where I have worked for 6+months. Yeah my first summer in Corpus was an eye opener to humidity.

Oh yeah, you got to experience true humdity. Some people come down to Dallas or Austin and think they have experienced the Texas humidity. I am like no, LMAO, they are so dry up there they don't really even have a mosquito issue. You probably already know how bad the mosquitos are around the coast since you worked there in the summer.

Yeah it was bad! On the flip side I could definitely live there during the winter months, I enjoyed every minute there in the winter. I was down there when I don’t remember the hurricane hit corpus like 16/17/ maybe 2018 I don’t remember now. But that was a bit of an eye opener, was my first time seeing that much rain and wind. You take the bridge over the bay where all the ships come in then you got the road through the bay basically to the town of Portland. Yeah there was no road all under water.

Good stuff,.what flavor of pump addict did you go with? I am at 1-1.5 scoops too, it's pretty potent.

The candy flavor, I also have a tub of wild thing assault labs. I’ve been mixing them also. It’s definitely potent most days 1 is enough but I like the pump from 1.5 better 😂

Throw some glycer pump in there for extra pump goodness.

I went with the blue raz lemonade Pump addict so I can mix with all the other lemon-lime or berry flavored EAA or creatine HCL I have for the pre/intra workout drink.

Is the candy flavor like wow,.over the top?

No not over the top pretty mild almost in my opinion.

Squats will get easier the next time or two after you get used to the pattern again.

They better, because right now you are basically benching your squat

I know that part drives me nuts 😂 totally my own doing though, should not have eliminated it. What is it you say? Don’t rob Peter to pay Pual? Well I robbed his ass 😂

I got the Blue Raspberry, and the Candy one with my last order. I definitely enjoy it and it doesn't have any of the stimulants in it that don't agree with me. Some stimulants just wreck me. and make me feel almost hypo but speedy at the same time which is not a comfortable situation.

However if anyone is looking for one hell of a thermogenic pre-workout and theobromine doesn't bother you too much then I definitely recommend SMOKED, it was a clearance item I got last time and it would have me sitting there dripping sweat sometimes. Definitely increased body temp quite well but the theobromine does not agree with me at all.

funny you mention that. I have been sweating so much less lately and it's actually a little disappointing since I'm in this cut. I like seeing the scale drop 5lbs of water weight in 90 minutes 😅

Keeping in my mind to remember the 3RIR so that when the app progresses the next 3 weeks i don’t mess up my RIR’s

already feeling a lot stronger on squats and deads. I mean still rookie numbers. I’m definitely happy that with doing back extensions and Romanian deads my back and erector muscles have made leaps and bounds progress. I’m sure to my form is getting better also. Regardless though it’s just nice that (knock on wood) I’m not having any back issues, when I’m deadlifting it just feels good now. So not to bore everyone to death, but pretty freaking excited on what I have progressed so far.

post workout whole milk protein powder.

I believe this Sunday will be day 14 for me.
Very nice, I've noticed some changes in me that I want to attribute to it, but I'm hesitant to in such a short time frame. Namely I'm always hot as hell, more than I am usually, and I do look like I'm already leaning out a bit. Not to mention what happens to the toilet, but that's another discussion... The big "however" here though, is I'm also on week 3 of eating significantly more protein.

I’m also running iconic formulations alpha 7 so that kinda muddies the water.

So far I can say for sure, body temperature has been up compared to before. I would say appetite has definitely not been as high, so some suppressive activity. Luckily no issues on empty stomach I take 30 minutes before meals 2x day. Also no bathroom out of the normal issue.

deadlifting is always a funny lift to think about in the "outside the gym" world. I can always imagine someone saying something like "oh you better get someone to help you with that, it's like 225lbs". Then AKboom says, oh that's fine I can pick that up 10 or 13 times then, and probably still have 3 reps in reserve if I needed. 😅

it's just funny when it's plates on a barbell we think about 225, 315, 405, 500+ etc but in a real life scenario picking up 225lbs a bunch of times is actually pretty strong lol.

Dude totally... I was at a local taproom last night and the girl working needed a half barrel keg from the basement which is like 160lb. Seemed super intimidating as I carried it up for her thinking about what my working DL weights are.

It can also be humbling, like doing rescue training a guy that weighs 180 but trying to pick up a limp human that 180 feels all of 315 and awkward as hell 😂

that's true, I was pulling around 425 the first time I tried hoisting a 200lb sand bag and I couldn't for the life of me figure it out. took a few tries and watching other people do it to figure out how the hell to get that bag off the ground 😅

Oh yeah odd objects are much harder to lift and hold than something with a handle or a grip that has balanced weight on it.

Oh yeah odd objects are much harder to lift and hold than something with a handle or a grip that has balanced weight on it.

Yeah barbell training is great to get stronger, but if you really want to be useful doing some strongman work with filled sandbags or kegs, or stones, is what’s going to give you the grip and raw ability to move awkward things.

My wife sometimes has me load her sandbags into the car the night before a training session when it’s in an upcoming show. When she gets to the gym she can get it in with the dolly and warm up with lighter bags prior to lifting it. But just moving even a 175lb bag into a car when cold takes a very solid base of strength, and definitely not worth the risk for her.

Decided today with this cold and no plans day. Going to fast until dinner, get some cardio in. Otherwise I’m going to want to snack all day lol.

Nice pivot.

Today finally got above zero, got up to mid 20’s supposed to be 30’s all week. Got the wife’s truck out of the garage and took both trucks to the car wash to get all the treated salt crap they use. Moved all the living room furniture out to deep clean and re organization. Meal preparation for the week done.
Also played with the sling shot today and course of the afternoon did 150 pushups.
