Wasme's recomp journey....

So jealous of your pressing strength Simon.

Do you at least have a fan in there?

Wife gave me the go-ahead to run the front garage into a gym when the financial hits cease, an imma have AC, heat, fans, and hell, a whiskey cabinet too. Screw working out in that heat.

You are quickly catching my numbers... and no doubt will leave me in your dust.

I actually have a ceiling, which sucks! And an old floor oscillating fan - its ok if you are sitting in front of it.

Heat? You live in Florida man

By the way.. that is awesome that she is good with it!

Florida's awesome in the AC.

Yeah, it's awesome. It was less than 6mo ago that she said no. I was contemplating building another (4th) garage.

You have 3 garages?

Yup. All good sized ones, too.

It's only right that my wife lets me have one for a gym... Even though one has tools, one has all boating stuff, and the other is a pool room. lol

Your barbell presses are impressive buddy. Jeez I only hope to move that kind of weight someday!

In 2013 his Igloo collapsed on him and he had to press the ice off of him to survive.

It's pretty much where all his pressing strength came from.

I once saw him wrestle a polar bear to save a little seal pup. I never thought I'd see a polar bear cry in submission. He then took the seal pup in his arms and swam with it on his back to the rest of the seals. Incredible.

Lol.

I saw something similar, but didn't think he was calling it wrestling.

I'd like to try it on my quads, if possible.
Yes it is, wrap at the hip with a knee wrap. Have not done it but seen it done and read about doing it.
You have to name popular Canadians, he's not familiar with the American ones.

Like bieber, Celine dion, or ... I guess that's it.
Shameful... at least Chad Krueger, or Avril Levine... you know the heaviest stuff to come out of Canada... :)

Awesome on the home gym! No need for a fan!!!! He lives in Canada. Hell I live in Texas and there is no need for a fan. Working out in 90 + degrees toughens you big time. Sometimes the environment being uncomfortable is the best way to get you into that intense training mindset.

Not saying it is fun but after a week or so your really begin to appreciate the added intensity the heat can bring to the table. Standing there dripping sweat, panting and feeling primal for doing so is just an added bonus at that point. Just have a gallon of water with you!

So true!!

The thing that kills me sometimes is the humidity we get. The garage gym becomes a sauna LOL. I love to sweat while I train; though when the humidity is high it just feels like the body can't cool down.
I need to get a nice industrial fan to have in the garage!

Kleen is a beast. Give me a fan in my garage gym. It gets over 85 and my motivation melts. This is the reason why early morning lifting is my preference.

When I workout at home in the heat our humidity is usually tortuous around 80-90%. Actually I tend to like it after about 15 minutes.

Got a question for you guys. Does the unfinished part of the basement have heating and a/c?
I'll know in one month but i'd like to know what to expect.

If it's "unfinished" then usually not. If it's below ground then it will stay cooler

You moving to Canada? If so where abouts?

I have found that an unfinished basement (underground) is cool and damp both summer and winter. Air conditioning and heating will seep to the unfinished section but you probably don't want to waste the extra power heating/cooling the unfinished space. A dehumidifier is a must in the basement.

the other is a pool room. lol

Pool table or a room for all your pool stuff?

Ya those look awesome

Couldn't agree with Chris more. Especially when it is freezing.. you want to talk about turning up the intensity with short rest periods.. lol

Agreed, the humidity really drenches you quick

This is why I will typically due my runs before 6am... its just too muggy to do it any later

Think he might have said before he was moving to the Vaughn area.. but will let him reply. As I could be wrong.

...our basement is at least 10c cooler in the summer - I should just take it over for health reasons ;)

I agree the basement is a very noticeable decrease in temp. For the first few years we didn't have AC but just spent our time in the basement. It was always very cool down there.

Yeah being here in Houston close to the Gulf and the Bay humidity is always a beast. Many times you step out and can feel the weight of the air on you because it is so heavy. I do have an oscillating floor fan, but I find that I do not turn it on very often at all now. Living here in Texas as a kid and doing 2 a days football practice in full gear in direct sun on 95+ days I just found that the body can cool itself quite well so long as properly hydrated. I have also been known to do a couple rounds of tabatta in the dry sauna too.

Early morning is still my preference but I have not mustered the motivation to start getting myself back up that early again. It is so hard to do when you have a gym right outside your door you can go to when you get home.

This is me exactly, the first couple sets are forced and then next thing I know it is either time stopping me, or me forcing myself not to keep training because I am just in the Zone! I think those first couple sets having to force it under uncomfortable circumstances sets the tone for the rest of the workout. You start with the mentality that it being uncomfortable is not going to stop you from doing it. Then as your intensity increases you get hotter, sweatier, more tired and uncomfortable but your mindset has also intensified. So the increase in intensity simply increases your resolve to not let discomfort stop you. The end result is you pitting your will against the heat, and walking back in from training victorious!!!!!!

I agree the basement is a very noticeable decrease in temp. For the first few years we didn't have AC but just spent our time in the basement. It was always very cool down there.
Yes the basement would be perfect with or without AC. Unfinished would also be nice because you could make use of the rafters and support beams for a lot of things.

All my weights (and the rest of our belongings) were packed and shipped Friday afternoon. Wasme is correct, we are moving to Kleinburg (Vaughn) and my new gym will be in the unfinished part of the basement. Until now, here in Greece my gym was in the basement without heating or a/c but the weather and the way homes are built is much different.

Just moved and started training at a Strongman gym with no ac the last week. It was tough for 2 days but now I like it. Had to train in a commercial gym today for travel and it felt like an igloo. The heat literally keeps you warmed up much better and drives you on.

I'm a heavy sweater, and don't think I'd like it much. It'd make for a slippery bench and loose grip. lol

My brother in law lives in Kingwood, just north of Houston... and have to admit it is BRUTAL in the summer there.

That gym is named appropriately for you bro..

Strange thing to admit ;)

Your workout doesn't show your tiredness on paper.

We arrive august 17. It's a lot of fun especially for the kids to live in a empty house. Only problem is the echo. I have my brother in Burlington and cousins from my mothers side around the country.
I wish my workouts were intense as yours when i'm lacking energy!

Awesome, I am sure the family is excited!

Have you tried Stimul8, if not do so - then they will be lol

You've joined the 3am club as well huh??

No.. more the 530am club - if I must. But I prefer to run early and lift a little later (unless it is a weekend or a vacation day).

7/22/2015 Chest and Shoulders - secondary day

Today was supposed to be a rest day. But I am taking my son and daughter on a little over nights Tuesday/Wednesday next week so need to preplan those as days off. So skipped todays rest day as Meadows mentions "I want to back off on chest and shoulders a hair on the second workout this week" ... and the load was down a fair bit.

He did that workout while he was sleeping.

Pump was there for sure, but did feel like more of a long warmup. That said, all in his master plan

It looks like a "normal persons" workout.
Are you sure you're alright?

LOL yes

How are the trap bar deads on your back, Wasme?

They felt great, was impressed. No discomfort which at that weight, I would feel with a normal dead. As advised, used the lower handles as well.

He did that workout while he was sleeping.

;)

I'm a heavy sweater, and don't think I'd like it much. It'd make for a slippery bench and loose grip. lol
Same here on the heavy sweating. I have never had an issue with the bench getting slippery. Even when training shirtless. However if slippage were the only reason some chalk on the upper back would handle that. Chalk takes care of the grip too. Now if being in your own sweat makes you miserable then that is another story.
My brother in law lives in Kingwood, just north of Houston... and have to admit it is BRUTAL in the summer there.

You need to let me know if you ever come down to visit and we will get a lift or two in. Kingwood might as well be Houston anyway.

I thought you would like them better, at least for your lower back's sake.

Will do, that would be awesome!

I am going to still do regular deads, but keep them lighter and build up the trap bar weight ones - just feels safer for me

Definitely a safer movement. As something to work the whole body it is better than a squat or a dead lift. Hits more muscle than either of them do!

On a dry bench with a shirt j have to use a grip pad. No way I could keep my arch without and with a sweaty back.

Otherwise, I could probably make do.

True if you have a big arch that is different. I have a decent arch but not exaggerated so not much of a problem for me. As a power lifter though I see how it would not work well for you.
