Wanderlei out, Leben in.

A major change has been made to next week's UFC 116 fight card in Las Vegas. Wanderlei Silva has been forced out of his bout against Yoshihiro Akiyama due to injury and will be replaced by Chris Leben, who accepted the fight just days after his TKO win over Aaron Simpson.

Silva's removal from the fight was first reported by MMAFighting.com. Leben's placement in the fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Tuesday.

According to the report on Silva, the Brazilian suffered fractured ribs that forced him out of the fight.

In steps Chris Leben, who fought last Saturday night at "The Ultimate Fighter" finale, and will do a quick turn for the fight with Akiyama.

The win was Leben's second in a row, as he put the first loss on the record of the previously unbeaten Simpson. Leben had been training and working with longtime friend Nate Quarry to get ready for the fight. He sustained no injuries in the bout with Simpson, so he'll be able to fight in July 3.

The bout between Leben and Akiyama will maintain a main card slot for the UFC 116, headlined by UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar returning to action to face interim titleholder Shane Carwin.

ssshhhhhh.... :( If you don't believe it , it isn't true .
Really this sucks sooo bad . I wanted to watch this very badly and am pretty sure Wandy couldve taken it . Mad props to Leben for manning up so damn quickly , decent replacement . Bad for Akiyama as Chris just might have more of an iron jaw than Silva . I'll take Leben by stoppage second round . Lets say Wandy gets better and gets in one fight by years end , who are we looking at for that ? Vitor , Belcher/Maia winner , Leben/Yoshihiro winner , A. Silva/Sonnen loser , Nate the Great is probably about healed up . Personally I would love for Leben to win then fight Wanderlei . Forgetting anyone ?
 
This sucks. I know Wandy wanted this fight. Also I hope Leben does win for once. I actually wanted him to beat simpson as well. Chris showed off his jaw in his lastfight.
 
Leben doesn't seem like an appropriate sub-in for Wandy, in terms of celebrity/interest status. The fight when from VERY INTERESTING, to, :gives:
 
I was very impressed with Leben after this one. Only Leben gets knocked out standing and shakes himself out of it. triangle wasnt locked perfectly but he still managed to pull out the sub. dude got a huge heart
 
Leben does fall....unless its A. silva hahaha. What a beast! im glad to see he has strung together 3 wins as well as getting honors.
