VanHalen is Back!

Any bets they break up again before this goes down?

:D

2:1 they don't play half the shows. What's the spread?

"Would I join Van Halen again if they asked me? Not without a team of lawyers and a valuum!" ~DLR

Without a doubt, DLR is the most "entertaining" front man. I love DLR era as much as any, if not more.

I'll believe it when I am there at the show. Eddie is so full of himself it isn't funny, I saw that when I worked stage security WAY back when, lol!! To me there is but one Van Halen and that would be the one with DLR out front.

Diamond Dave Spills His Guts About Van Halen Reunion

February 18th, 2007

From: Invalid Link Removed

Van Halen recently announced that they'd be touring together with their original frontman David Lee Roth for the first time in twenty-three years. Roth spoke exclusively to our Brian Hiatt about burying the ax with Eddie, playing the old favorites with a different attitude and the possibility of a permanent VH reunion. He also dropped more metaphors than we ever thought humanly possible. Read highlights from the interview, which will appear in its fully-realized form in the next issue of Rolling Stone, which hits stands everywhere February 23rd:

* On his first post-reunion jam with Eddie:
Eddie and I wrote the songs, every note, every syllable, as if we invented a language that only we can speak. It was an easy, natural thing...When you speak a language that you both created, it's natural to go, "I know you." So it was very easy. There wasn't any stumble at all. I just showed up, and twenty minutes later, it was the usual, "How's the wife, how's the kids, let's play." When you're born to do that language, you speak it naturally. I never forgot it.

* On how rehearsals are going:
The chemistry is combustible. There's an explosive sound there that is, I think, perhaps...unless you were there, which most folks weren't, than you may have forgotten. This is really sophisticated, smart stuff. Everybody's at the top of their game in terms of...it's not just intangible things. My voice is arguably better than it was when I left the band back when. I love what I do, perhaps for some different reasons now than I did, more so than I did. It's a privilege to do what I do for a living.

* On whether or not the reunion will be permanent:
God willin', and the creek don't run dry, just like Grandma Roth used to say. Barring any act of God or Ferrari...yeah. I have hope and faith, and that's more than just the name of a couple of strippers from Albuquerque.

A new rumor has been circulating that says the Van Halen tour has been "indefinitely postponed". But don't worry - the tour will very likely still happen this summer.

Melodicrock.com issued a Van Halen update in response to the rumors yesterday, saying in part:

"I am told that this postponement should be just that - a temporary situation that can be sorted so that the dates that had been arranged can be re-booked and announced down the track somewhat. The band is unlikely to comment beyond the fact the tour will (at this stage) start later than originally planned. The line-up for this tour remains Eddie, Wolfgang & Alex Van Halen and frontman David Lee Roth."

Also, the VHND's own sources are telling us not to worry and that the tour is indeed going to happen. We know that the date that the tickets were to go on sale has been pushed back from late February to sometime in March. We are hoping that the main reason for this delay is to coincide the official announcement of tour dates with Van Halen's March 12th induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Another rumor we want to address - we are surprised to see that some websites are saying that Van Halen is currently being managed by Eddie's girlfriend (Janie Liszewski/High Profile Media). While it is true that Eddie's girlfriend is the band's publicist, the band's manager for the last three years is Irving Azoff.

please please please dont let them come out in spandex, what worked 20 years ago just wont cut it for them now!

Van Halen's road plans have taken a rocky turn

February 22nd, 2007

For Van Halen, the stars seemed aligned for a triumphant 2007. Next month, the group will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the plan was to follow that with a summer reunion tour that would feature David Lee Roth back at the mike for the first time since the Reagan years.

But, once again, the backstage soap opera of Van Halen is the story of the day.

The Van Halen tour has been "shut down," according to a top official at Live Nation, the huge concert promoter that finally surrendered in the face of the chaos surrounding guitar hero Eddie Van Halen. Roth, meanwhile, says he is unsure whether the mercurial guitarist will even travel to New York for the Hall of Fame induction on March 12.

"We have fragile politics in Van Halen; please accept that as a partial answer," Roth said. "But I don't know if the Van Halens are going to go....I hope they do, but right now, I just don't know. Hope springs eternal."

Eddie Van Halen declined interviews through his publicist and girlfriend, Janie Liszewski. Conversations with the business team behind the tour paint a picture of a rock star who is somewhere between Axl Rose and Michael Jackson on the music industry scale of eccentric recluses. The result is that the Van Halen venture imploded before takeoff, even as the Police, the Eagles and Genesis have efficiently geared up for lucrative reunion tours.

"I cannot tell you how frustrating and completely nuts this has been," one key business figure in the tour said while asking not to be identified on the outside chance that the reunion might be salvaged. "Right now, I have to say, I don't see that happening."

It's a disheartening situation for the fans who pine for a Roth-led lineup of the iconic metal band. Among those devoted is Wolfgang Van Halen, the 15-year-old son of Eddie and, according to Roth, a key force behind the reunion.

Wolfgang, a precocious musician, was "the maestro" at the reconstituted band's lone rehearsal, picking the set list and using his iPod to remind his father of the nuances of his solos on the old albums. Wolfgang was tapped by his father to play bass on the tour too, replacing founding member Michael Anthony, a jolting choice considering the child's age and Anthony's status as one of rock's best backup singers and most relentlessly cheerful presences.

Eddie Van Halen remains, by all accounts, a gifted guitarist and rock auteur, but the decision to jettison Anthony in favor of a teenager may have been the first sign that the new enterprise was guided by creaky logic. Now all eyes will be on the Hall of Fame banquet to see who shows up, who performs and how Roth interacts with old rival Sammy Hagar, the man who replaced him as lead singer in 1985 and who will be inducted as an equal.

On Valentine's Day, when the tour still looked viable, Roth was all smiles as he sat down for an interview in a bungalow at Chateau Marmont. The 52- year-old was wearing a snappy black suit and the short haircut that has recently replaced his old pro-wrestler cut. He still flashes a karate smile, but the singer seems calmer and more focused than in years past. The reason, he said, is that he's fresh from working as an emergency medical technician in New York. It's a longtime dream of his to be a paramedic, and the unglamorous gurney and rubber-glove duty humbled him, he said.

"I was working in neighborhoods that were almost exclusively black and Spanish-speaking, so only maybe twice out of 200 clients was I recognized.... I was joking about this in the truck on New Year's Eve, which was my last shift -- I was working in Brooklyn, down in Coney Island -- I said that I've been in more project apartments than Jay-Z and Diddy combined."

Roth was the rock frontman on top of the world when he went solo, but -- as Mick Jagger and Robert Plant also learned -- fans treasure him more when he was side-by-side with an equal on guitar. Roth seemed like a vainglorious sex panther in Van Halen, but on his own he often came off as a relentless jive salesman whose only product was his own past. Roth is still "on" all the time -- he calls it his "incandescent personality" -- but lately he comes off as the voice of reason, a pretty stunning change.

That, and the financial prospects, made him jump at the chance to work with Eddie Van Halen again. Of the old days, he says: "There was a lot of sparks and a lot of tension, like your favorite movies, especially those underground ones.... There was a lot of anxiety too, but it was about ambition, not ego."

Roth was optimistic that the band would follow up the tour with new music; he also pointed to the cache of 1996 recordings that he did with Van Halen during an earlier reunion flirtation. Now it appears the entire output of this new reunion was a single rehearsal in January and a photo shoot with Roth and Eddie, Wolfgang and Alex Van Halen. Alex is Eddie's older brother and the band's drummer.

"Hearing it again, that's an elixir.... What we sell is that we make all the guys feel young and invincible and all the girls feel young and desirable," Roth said. "I watched it happen to everybody that was listening in the studio."

Van Halen was a monster of rock and, for a time, arguably the biggest band in the world. According to the Recording Industry Assn. of America, Van Halen albums have shipped more than 56.5 million copies, which is more than the career totals of U2, Celine Dion, Shania Twain or Prince.

Roth said that he and Anthony will be in New York for the Hall of Fame, as will Hagar, the affable "red rocker."

Last month, Hagar publicly chided Eddie Van Halen for taking his son on tour. He also added that "the guy is a genius, but he's just out there and it's hard for people around him."

In 2004 and 2005, Van Halen toured with Hagar and, according to Pollstar, grossed $55 million playing arenas. But Hagar said that Eddie Van Halen was drinking heavily and, on some nights, it showed. In Chicago, Eddie stumbled throughout the set and, at one point, quit playing and sacked out, telling the crowd: "I done run outta gas."

There were tender scenes too. With the tour winding down in Los Angeles, for instance, Wolfgang came on stage at the Staples Center to play. The body language of father and son made it clear that they reveled in the shared spotlight. Roth said that that affection led to the hopes for the Van Halen reunion.

"I'm going to put some words in Ed's mouth," Roth said. "Whatever explanation he may give about having his son in the band, I'm going to superimpose: He wants to play with his kid while he's still at the top of his game and able to ... and that's also the same reason I'm in the band in its current configuration. No questions asked. He said, 'Hey, c'mon up the hill and make some music.' I said, 'Great. I'd love to play with you while you're still on the top of your game.' "

Roth smiled, but a moment later, when he was asked about what he feared most about the reunion, he didn't hesitate with his answer: "The two worst words in the English lexicon are 'band meeting.' "

Van Halen Tour On Hold But Still In The Works

A prospective Van Halen tour with original frontman David Lee Roth has derailed. Sources tell Billboard.com the decision to postpone the outing indefinitely was not due to any internal strife among band members. Insiders close to the situation say a tour is still in the works and will happen, though when is anybody's guess.

The tour, negotiations for which were first tipped here on Jan. 24, will feature Roth, Eddie and Alex Van Halen, and Eddie Van Halen's teenage son Wolfgang on bass. A spokesperson for the Van Halen brothers confirmed the tour in a Feb. 3 press release.

Indeed, wheels were in motion for a 40-date, Live Nation-produced amphitheatre tour to be announced Feb. 20, including venues and on-sale dates.

The Van Halen camp has yet to make any official announcement about the postponement or the reasons behind it.

Eddie kicks the "founding" member of the band out. Not cool.

I saw him in an interview with his brother, just pissed off the whole time. Again not cool.

Eddie is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Eruption is a masterpeice and I wish they played old VH at my gym but they don't.

What I'm trying to say is, old VH is some of the most rockin music I was given during my youth but wouldn't pay a dime to see them now because Eddie is an a$$hole.

Replacing a frontman like DLR with Hagar is like replacing Steven Tyler with the dude who used to front Creed, Scott Stapp.

I can't stand that guy. Marbles in his mouth.

Man, I love the old Van Halen with Roth. That was some of the best Rock ever. After David was booted the music became lame. The first solo albem from DLR was David out doing Van Halen, it was great and then he to went down.

My wife and I went and say the David/Sammy tour and Roth kicked ass.

the thing about original VH was that they had that "something" that made them great -kinda like Areosmith ,but unlike Areosmith--VH was never able to overcome there problems [IMO mosty eddies fault] and now it might be to late

Edward is an alcoholic. 'nuff said.

We just received this compelling text from Eddie Van Halen's representatives. We're all pulling for you, Eddie ...

I would like Van Halen fans to know how much I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Without you there is no Van Halen.

I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That's why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110% that I feel I owe you and want to give you.

Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I'm doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of.

I look forward to seeing you in the future better than ever and I thank you with all my heart.

Love,

Ed

Van Halen Looking at 2007 Live Dates!

VAN HALEN LOOKING AT 2007 LIVE DATES:
So, the word has started to leak...Van Halen are setting up a tour for 2007 and should everything fall into place it will start sooner rather than later. David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen have gotten together and parties involved in all aspects of the Van Halen machine are mobilizing to get this tour set up. I can confirm dates and venues are being penciled in. There isn't much more I can say at this time, but safe to say should everything go to plan (and we all know how things can change with these guys), the band should hit the road for US dates starting in September.

Reunited Van Halen Eyeing Fall Arena Run

Ray Waddell, Nashville

A proposed summer amphitheater tour by a reunited Van Halen that was derailed when guitarist Eddie Van Halen checked into rehab now looks like it may be resurrected as a fall arena run. Several arena holds are in place in major markets for potential Van Halen dates, Billboard.com has learned.

The tour, negotiations for which were first tipped here on Jan. 24, would feature David Lee Roth, Eddie and Alex Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen's teenage son Wolfgang on bass.

Wheels had been in motion for a 40-date, Live Nation-produced amphitheater tour, with original frontman Roth back in the fold for the first time in more than 20 years. Van Halen last toured in 2004 with vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore.

But the reunion never got off the ground, and Eddie Van Halen entered a rehabilitation facility for undisclosed reasons in March. In the months since, the artist has been seen publicly looking healthy and fit.

The buzz surrounding the prospect of a Van Halen tour with Roth seems to point toward a successful trek. "I see it absolutely as an inevitability," Roth told Billboard.com more than a year ago regarding a tour with his ex- bandmates. "To me, it's not rocket surgery. It's very simple to put together. And as far as hurt feelings and water under the dam, like what's- her-name says to what's-her-name at the end of the movie 'Chicago' -- 'So what? It's showbiz!'"

Yeah, its a bad situation when egos, alcohol and musicians come together. Mike was a pillar in that band.

Sammy and Mike have been doing the "Other Half" thing. Which likely pissed Eddie off and hence the boot. Good news is they are a lot of fun and actually my more favorite entertainment for my money anyway.

Of course the old school VH has its place in my heart too.

Of course the old school VH has its place in my heart too.

A friend of mine and I got into an argument about Anthony getting replaced. He keep saying "What if this kids as good as his father?" I doubt it. How many children of great talents exceed their parents? Very few I imagine.

It's never been about ability. Eddie is a jealous, insecure, narcistic alcoholism who put the entire band on hiatus. Mike and Sam moved on and collaborated and Eddie can't get over it or deal with it.

Wolfie is very talented but that is another topic and issue all together.

I was down in Cabo Feb of 2006. we went to the cantina for dinner because i am huge VH fan. I kept asking when is Sammy coming and they said he wont be here tonight, he tells them when he is coming. Well low and behold at 10pm, when the band comes on we are upstairs at the restaurant and the server comes by and says youre the one whol likes sammy right, i say yes and he says well he is down stairs playing with the band, i am like no way, so i run down there and sure enough sammy surprised everyone at the place. he stopped after the second song and said no one knew that he as coming, he was driving around cabo and it was such a beautiful night and he thought i havent been to the cantina in a while and he just showed up, he then says my wife doesnt even know i am here!!! and then jams again. its was the most amazing experience, thanks sammy

Damn!!! Good times.

I have met Sammy at a few shows. Nothing intimate or personal, just a meet and greet when he was with VH. I have also met Mike. They are real down to earth guys.

They are doing a short tour as "The Other Half" and their first stop is in Phoenix. My hope is to get to that show. They are always fun times.

I'm jealous. My wifes birthday is 10-13 and I keep trying to make it to Cabo for the birthday bash. One of these years.

i saw the other half concert here in chicago last august. mikey was singing all the david lee roth songs and sammy sang everything else.

i have a friend who dated this girl who is first cousins with mikey. years ago they came to chicago and we saw this girl about an hour after the concert, she was back stage partying with VH

When Gary (VHIII) was fronting the band I saw them at the Del Mar fairgrounds. Mikey was singing lead for (and still does today) Somebody Get Me Doctor (i'm getting goose bumps posting this) and I was blown away.

At the end of Dave's career with VH I saw them at the US Festival in San Bernedino in '83. Dave was so wasted Mike was singing most of the songs.

Many many good times watching and listening to Mike and Sammy during the 5150 through Balance tours.
