USPlabs asks WHY dO you LIFT? Share your "WHY" story and WIN BIGLY!

Our youth pastor wants me to give my testimony because I never have. I'm ashamed of it although I've been delivered. But, it could free someone who is going through that situation now. It's hard though, people judge now not when it happened. My self preservation is because of that, I don't want my image tainted now because of my past.

Idk, I need to..

You need to do it. You will be surprised how many people have a past they are not proud of, and how many will come up to you later and thank you or tell you did a great job.

Ive done it and after you get past being in front of the people and the lights its not bad.
Hint: Prepare and know what you are going to say. practice in a mirror. when i'm prepared I'm a lot less nervous.

I started lifting in College because I had to, Running backs were not supposed to lift in 1979. It will make you slow. Once I got to college it was a different philosophy.
When I graduated and went into the work force all I spent my free time on was partying using drugs and chasing tail.
I got fat drinking 8 plus Mt. Dews a day. (they had a fridge full of free pop at my first job and I had no control)

I developed a Cocaine addiction (I had started dealing cocaine to support my habit for about 2 years that is how bad it got.)

I still remember waking up one morning hung over and my nose bleeding from too much cocaine and said you look like a fat piece of Sh it and you need to get your sh it together.
I threw out all my scales and cocaine dealing crap and said no more.
Backing up when I left for college I stopped going to church.

The good Lord was still watching over me. a week later I have the sheriffs dept come arrest me at work in front of everybody, take me to my condo to search it and all they found was a tray full of stems and seeds that they found under the couch that I had forgot about. They were so pissed that is all they found they planted 4lbs of weed on me. said they found it in the closet. I would have not forgotten that trust me.
Lucky for me it was my first offence and I got a deferred sentence and 800 hrs. of community service and about $5k in restitution.
My dad did let me set in county jail for 4 weeks until I got released on some kind of first time offender thing.

At that time I had a lot of time to think and decided to go back to what was the best things in my life, Jesus, Family and getting back into shape.
I started lifting in around 1989 and have been addicted to Iron ever since!
It still helps me today with my stress and trying to lead an example for my children. God, Family and work ethic.
my 3 eldest are out of the house and have there own family and all but one exercise seriously. my son is a beat and my 15 year old sometimes pushes me to get to the gym.

I could ramble on but I do think lifting has helped my marriage of 28 years. Me and my wife look pretty good for our age. I'm 53 and she is 46 and people think she is a trophy wife.

Good work my man

Thanks brother there is more to my F uked up life when I was in my twenty's but I didn't want to make a novel out of it!

Yep this thread will probably be one the few to be added onto and read on for awhile even after winners are announced. It is amazing how something as simple as picking something up and putting it down over and over can reach so many ppl/ turn lives around I know lifting along with the birth of my son has completely saved my life and in the process helped plenty of others as well. Some lifelong friends are made inside that dark gym.

Pretty sure a lot of us totally forgot this was even a "winnable"" thread ha. Just here for the stories

Agreed.

In a world full of negativity and hatred (especially as we lead into tomorrow), it's nice to be able to look at this and find the humanity and not only motivation to train, but faith in why we're here and what we're trying to do.

A story of being bullied:
In High School as a 98 lb wrestler, and every day in the hallway a certain few football players took it upon themselves to demonstrate how they felt about the wrestling team by shoving me into the lockers as they walked by.

One Day:
One day, I was headed towards my math class and they got in my way, and began to start in again but this time they didn’t stop at just shoving me. They were upset because another wrestler had taken his frustrations out on one of their team members and beat him badly. They were intent on proving something to this kid.

Mathing!:
My math teacher came out and said, “You fellas need to be somewhere? because that’s my student and he’s late for class. Well that was a sty of execution for me, but in my mind, it made things worse. Now these guys were going to be gunning for me.

The matchup:
What I was not aware of, my math teacher spoke with the football coach as we sat for class, and both the football coach and wrestling coach met me in the hall after class. They had in tow the three kids who were picking on me. They told us to settle it on the mats in the wrestling room.

They looked as though they were going to tare me apart, but they didn’t count on having to abide by rules of conduct in a legitimate wrestling match. I took them apart easily, one by one. They couldn’t keep up.

In the end:
When it was all over, I had earned my place in that little school. Everyone sang my name when I walked into the gym during tournaments, or spontaneously in the hallway, groups of kids would just start up.

A part of a team and a lesson in life
Being a part of the wrestling team was just what I needed as a young, skinny kid with no apparent outlets for his energy. The discipline it offered, and camaraderie of my team mates, brought a structure and confidence to my life. I discovered how much I loved becoming stronger, and wanted to become as invincible as I could.

It made me respect myself, and how important standing up for one’s self and others really is in life.

Very generous indeed, and honestly they make the best shirts ive ever worn I do believe. Not sucking up I have a blue barbell club shirt and my GF hates how much I wear it lol

i have all the colors of the OG run and the discounted new one that had the hard to read print. That may actually be my fav now lol. However it is also an L compared to all my XLs and while I can wear both, the L fits awesome right now :)

What does not kill you makes you stronger!

It's like Christmas. . I cannot wait. Just to find out who won.

So many of you are deserving.
