USP Lab tester log

Wednesday March 12, 2008 - Chest/Lats/Shoulders

Awwww yeah!!!! I am now convinced Jacob is on to something special. I am going on day 19 of the new product and my strength was amazing tonight! I am on a 16 day split and this is the first time back around to this day and I was able to bang out 2 more reps than last time on dumbbell flat bench and am back to the 150s. The weight just felt light tonight! I set PRs on flat dumbbell bench and I am still about 10 pounds lighter than when I hit my previous PR on these. Maybe I was just really fired up tonight because I got stuck in a stupid motorcade in downtown DC! ugh. LOL

Flat dumbbell press (got 130sx12, 140sx7, and 150sx3 drop to 115sx7...all PRs). Like I said before, the weight just felt light tonight. I then moved on to hammer grip hammer strength pulldowns, smith machine upright rows, incline hammer press (banged out 4 plates each side for 10 which was a PR), wide isolation rotary lat pulldown, smith machine military press, low cable flys, and knee-in crunches.

I should note that my sleep has continued to be extremely deep!

Thursday March 13, 2008 - Arms and Calves

Another great workout including some PRs. Had a pretty ridiculous pump again tonight. I have not been able to sleep as much as usually recently because of my work but my sleep has continued to be DEEP!

V-bar pushdowns (PR), barbell curls (185x10 PR), dumbbell skull crushers (worked up to 100s), hammer curls (worked up to the 120s...those were heavy!), overhead tricep cable (got the whole stack), high preacher curl isolation machine superset ez curl reverse curls, hammer angle calve press, seated curls, ab machine.

Another great day.

Really enjoy following your log and your site! You've been a great inspiration to me and I appreciate how you contribute to Natural Bodybuilding!!! Keep after it bro!

Any more testers needed?

To any and all USP reps, wondering if there are any more ongoing or upcoming testers needed? Supplement skeptic, personal trainer who despite intense and innovative (microperiodized, highly proprioceptive) training has been at same weight/strength plateaus for some time now. Have tried pretty much every legal supp with varying results but nothing helps bust through 315 bench/245 hang clean/385 deadlift plateaus. Considered testing/fitness modeling before, but never looked into it until now. Ideas/suggestions?
Just got P-Slin in mail today, trying out tomorrow morning, and if all goes as planned, would love to try other products

Man I'm missing out on these great logs. Glad I saw this one.
Good stuff Doug, awesome #'s.

I see some aggression there, talking about breaking kneecaps... lol buddy.

Saturday March 15, 2008 - Back thickness/traps/rear delts

Great workout tonight and I was able to get some videos. We started with deadlifts and hit work sets with 545. Here is a video of 545x4:

Invalid Link Removed

After the work sets we dropped it down and did a burn out. Here is a video of 405x19:

Invalid Link Removed

Then did barbell rows, hammer shrugs superset with bent over lateral raises, t-bar rows (I was beat up at this point but still worked up to 9 plates for 8 reps. I also hit 7 plates for 22 reps), We then did the Cybex row machine superset with rear delt pec deck, 2 sets of hyperextensions, and some side serratus abs.

Weight 212.

Sunday March 16, 2008 - Chest, Shoulder, and Calves

I was totally beat up form yesterday's back blasting. I had a decent workout but felt a little run down. Thank goodness tomorrow is an off day. I did incline barbell, incline MTS press machine, cable flys, dumbbell Arnold press, lat raise machine, cable lat raise superset with cable front raise, smith machine calves, free motion toe press calves, and v-situps.

I should mention that Steph rocked deadlifts today. She did 225x7 at a bodyweight of 130....I was really impressed and proud of her.

Monday March 17, 2008 - Cardio

30 minutes bike.

Tuesday March 18,2007 - Quads and Hams

Another great workout tonight. I am really stoked because we started with hack squat tonight without warming up with leg extensions and my knee felt decent. I was going DEEP on the hacks and hit 4 plates for 20 (may have had more) and 5 plates each side for 10 good ones ATG. I then moved up to 5 plates and a 25 each side DEEP. I then moved on to leg press superset with hammer squat press, leg extensions, seated curls, walking dumbbell lunges (worked up to 100's for 8 steps each leg), outer thigh, and a couple sets of one leg standing leg curls, and straight leg ups for abs. I felt very strong even though my back was still really tight from the deadlifts 3 days ago.

D

Wednesday March 19, 2008 - Chest and Tris

Today was supposed to be chest and back but my back was still really tight from legs from yesterday so I hit chest and tris (my legs are sore!). Should have probably taken today off since I have been pretty beat up from some intense workouts recently and my work has been killing me with long hours. Tonight was a tough workout but I managed to work through it. Looking forward to a rest day tomorrow. Flat barbell bench, wide hammer press, one arm incline hammer press, flat fly machine, one arm pushdowns, overhead cable presses, rope pushdown, and rope abs. Even though I didnt quite have my normal intensity tonight...I should comment that I still was able to get a ridiculous pump.

D

Thursday March 20, 2008 - Off Day

Today was a much needed complete off day (no cardio). Recently my workouts have been so intense than I am burned for days. I have always been intense but my drive recently has been noticeably increased and thus I needed to give my CNS a little breather.

excuses excuses exuses:run::wave:

LOL I never take off but I told Steph to make me because I knew I needed to do it. Its hard to do mentally but I know its best. She tied me up and didnt let me workout!

Back tonight!

Friday March 21, 2008 - Back, Bis, and Calves

After my rest day yesterday I had great workout tonight! (Except for Calves which kept cramping up really bad since it was a long workout). I started barbell bent rows (got 335x22 and 405x10 and then went up to 425). I then did wide hammer strength lat pulldown, t-bar row (nautilus), and high rope pulldowns with a good squeeze. I then moved on to barbell curls, hammer strength preacher curls, wall-support dumbbell hammer curls, seated calves (big cramp), angle hammer toe presses, and some v-situps.

I had a ridiculous pump tonight after one set of rows!

Mini review going onto week 5.

My workouts have been ridiculously intense that I need a little more time for my CNS to recover. I have been consistantly hitting PRs every week. Hope this continues. Also, my pumps have been RRRRRRReeeeee-gosh-darn-diculous LOL. To the point that I don't think I could even touch my nose when training arms. I usually have good pumps because of high carbs, AP/Pslin, and NO preworkout drinks but this is definitely over the top. One of the biggest things I have noticed is VERY vivid dreams and VERY deep sleep.

Going onto week 5 and will have bloodwork done this week.

So far this is definitely a winner...

Saturday March 22, 2008 - Shoulders and Traps

I had a good workout but immediatly after I was finished I started getting hot flashes and just felt pretty nasty...I slept 12 hours and think I have some type of flu. I have a fever and am achy. Sucks. I usually don't get sick that often but this is twice in the past month! I think the working 70+ hour weeks, training my arse off, trying to run a supplement company, developing diets/training programs for clients, etc finally caught up with me. LOL. Its nice that I don't have to work tomorrow for Easter. The funny thing is I still had a good workout but I was sweating my arse off. Smith machine military, military machine, rear delt flys, seated lat raises superset front raises, dumbell shrugs, 1 set of cable lat raisies, and some weighted abs.

Sunday March 23, 2008 - Off

Sunday March 23 - Thursday March 27 ---> Death

As you may have noticed, I have been missing in action this week. After my workout last Saturday night I started feeling absolutely terrible. My throat was killing me, I had uncontrollable sweats, my head was stuffy, I had a cough, my back (kidney and lung area) was sore...it just sucked!!!! I went to the doctor on Monday and they confirmed that I did NOT have strep or the flu. She called me last night and I got the test results from my throat culture and mono test.....everything was fine and my white blood cell count was normal...she said If she didn't know how sick I was she would have thought I was fine. I worked from home Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday but had to be in the office for 12 hours on Wednesday and it sucked! I usually never miss the gym for illness but I have not been able to train the past 5 days and it is absolutely killing me....I probably lost 5+ pounds.....I'm back at work today and finally feel like I'm going to train today (I will ease back in with legs). I still get weird sweats out of no where and my throat is still tight but I'm probably 70% better. I have not gotten my blood work yet for the test booster because my immune system has been so taxed. I will get it taken next week when I am hopefully 100%.

I will be back!

Glad to hear you are feeling better man! I battled it during the 2nd week of January and missed the gym for 4 days. It SUCKED!!! Get after it and tear it up!

Friday March 28, 2008 - Legs and Calves

Well I finally got back in the gym today and it just so happened to be leg day! My favorite. I still feel a little sick and started getting a bad headache a little into my workout so I only ended up doing half of what I wanted to but it still felt good to just get in there. This cold is the nastiest one I have ever had. I still have a bad pain in my throat when I swallon. Its not like a normal sore throat but instead like a pain.

It funny though, after 2 sets of legs I had a ridculous pump even after of 5 days of not training and eating much less than normal! In fact even though I was feeling so awful, this kid walked up to me and said, "holy crap, how did you get legs like that....that is awesome!" Little things like that can make you feel good when you are feeling your worst. The look of vomit on my face was my answer for the kid LOL.

Laying leg curls, leg press superset barbell squats, seated leg curls, rotary calves.

Let the comeback continue slowly but surely!

Saturday March 29, 2008 - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps

Decent workout tonight. Surprisingly my strength was not down that much after going through a week of #$@!. Incline dumbell press, flat leverage press, fly machine, military machine, strict dumbell lat raises (great pump), rope pushdowns, hammer strength tricep dip machine, dumbbell skullcrushers, and ab roller machine. Decent workout but I struggled a little at the end and I was coughing a lot!

Sunday March 30, 2008 - Back and Biceps

Still not 100%.....finally got to another doctor today (one of Steph's clients) and got some antibiotics which I started tonight. Hopefuly that wil knock the rest of this thing out of me. My throat is still painful and I really had to mustard up everything I had to get through this workout. I still felt run down (although my strength was still very good on barbell bent rows). I just didn't have the gas in me that I usually do...but I am just happy I can get through a workout now. Barbell bent rows, close grip pulldowns, low hammer row, pulldown machine, barbell shrugs, preacher curl machine, hammer curls, one arm support dumbbell curls, side serratus cable abs.

Monday March 31, 2008 - Cardio

30 min bike. Feeling a little better. Still sweating a lot. Day 2 of antibiotics.

Hope you get better man and i like the intensity of your workouts a lot

April 1, 2008 - Quads and hams

I'm finally back! Maybe not 100% but I was able to hit it very hard (to the point where leaving the gym was hard!) I still was sucking wind a little but I was very happy with this workout given what I have been through recently! Close stance smith machine squats ATG, leg press superset hack squat, leg extensions, smith machine lunges, seated leg curls, inner and outer thighs, and leg raises.

Glad to see your getting back to normal, great log so far keep up the good work! I can't wait to try the new test product, very interested in seeing how your blood work turns out.

April 2, 2008 - Chest/Lats/Shoulders

I'm on the comeback. Strength was down a little on the dumbbell presses but my other lifts improved from last time. I'm actually surprised at how good my strength is after the sickness last week. I'm still taking the test booster so I think that has something to do with it. Flat dumbbell bench, smith upright row (worked up to 225), hammer strength pulldowns, incline hammer press, high rope pulldown (great pump), smith machine behind the neck military (don't usually do these), pec deck.

Still working on it. Hopefully tomorrow or Monday. I was sick for a couple of weeks so didn't want to do it when my immune system was all messed up.

April 3, 2008 - Arms and Calves

Back in the groove. I really focused on form tonight making sure I had intense contractions. This workout blew up my arms. Great feeling. My calves had a ridiculous pump too. Rope pushdowns, barbell curls, dumbell skullcrushers, hammer curls, overhead rope extensions, high preacher machine superset reverse preacher cable curls, standing calves, toe press machine calves, and rope crunches. Still had some mucous coughing going on but I feel 90-95% better.

Friday April 4, 2008 - Cardio

Got my test booster blood work done this morning and then did 40 mins incline treadmill. We are in the process of developing a pre-workout stimulant/focus supplement. I tested a pretty complete formula before my cardio this morning and shewwwweeeee I was like the energizer bunny on the treadmill and I HATE cardio. Steph has also been testing out some combos and she had a killer workout this morning too. I think we found a winner.

Off to the Natural Bodybuilding Hall of Fame banquet in Philly and will be promoting Core at the show.

Saturday April 5, 2008 - Back thickness/traps/rear delts

First deadlifting day after my sickness and things went pretty well. I don't usually like deadlifting outside of my usual gym but decided to anyways at a gym in PA. My lower back was bothering me a little and was very tight for 24 hours after the workout but I was decently strong. Deadlifts (worked up to 545), barbell bent rows, seated hammer shrugs superset reverse fly machine, t-bar rows with a hold at the top, row machine superset incline bench rear delt raises, hyperextensions, and side serratus abs.

Had a Core booth today at the bodybuilding show and were able to spread the word.

Sunday April 6, 2008 - Chest/Shoulders/Calves

Traveled home from PA and trained at a different gym. My incline bench was not very good (was a different, steeper angle) but the rest of my workout was good and I had a crazy sweat going. Incline barbell bench, flat hammer bench, low incline flys, shoulder press machine, strict lat raises superset incline bench front raises, cable lat raises, seated calves, angle hammer calves, and knee-in crunches.

Monday April 7, 2008 - Cardio

30 minutes cardio - 15 minutes bike and 15 minutes incline treadmill.

Tuesday April 8, 2008 - Quads and Hams

I think I'm back to normal :-). I had a very good leg workout tonight although there were SO MANY dingleberries in the gym tonight. I was doing walking barbell lunges out of a squat cage and as I am walking down to one end of the gym with 225 on my back, a genius trainer decided to set up a bench in my squat cage for her client to "step up" on. When I returned on my way back, I just stood there ready to pass out still holding the weight. It wasn't until I said "ummm can I put this weight back" that she got the point. She obviously new I was going to do another set but still insisted on having her client work right in front of me while the entire area right next to me was open. I politely asked her to move :-) Sheesh!

Anyways...I got a great pump in my legs tonight. I pre-exhausted my quads tonight with leg extensions since I didn't want to put too much pressure on my back. Leg extension, leg press superset with hack squats, laying leg curl, walking barbell lunges, inner and outer thigh, seated leg curls, and straight leg raises for the abs.

Wednesday April 9, 2008 - Chest, Back, and Traps

Good workout tonight. My left pec has been bothering me a little lately so tonights chest workout was not very good but my back workout was VERY strong. Flat barbell bench, t-bar support row, free motion seated flys (slow), high hammer rows, free motion wide lat pulldown, incline bench dumbbell shrugs, incline machine press (slow), and rope crunches. I have been working 80 hour weeks and will have to for the next 3 and a half weeks. I work, train, and then go back to work. I definitely miss my seeing my wife as much as I am used too :-( Can't wait until May 2 when I will get some down time!

Thursday April 10, 2007 - Arms and Calves

Decent workout tonight. I'm a little worn down being the end of the week, and I have been getting much less sleep than I am used to with all the work I have been doing. My strength seems to be coming back though from my sickness a couple of weeks ago so that is a very good sign. V-pushdowns, dumbbell skullcrushers, rope pushdowns, incline hammer curls, preacher curls machine, standing alternating dumbbell curls, dumbbell wrist curls, seated calves, smith machine calves, side serratus cable abs.

Friday April 11, 2008 - Shoulders/Traps

Very good workout tonight. I had that real fire/intensity that I had before I got sick. Smith machine military, dumbell military, barbell shrugs, rear delt fly machine superset lat raises, dumbbell front raises (I tried these with loose form and got up to the 100s lol those were heavy), rear delt pec deck, and upper ab crunches.

Saturday April 12, 2008 - Cardio

40 mins incline treadmill.

Sunday April 13, 2008 - Quads and hams

Big Steph and I killed it today! She was like the freakin energizer bunny....ever see a woman doing walking dumbbell lunges with 80 pound dumbbells at a body weight of 131? Sheesh! I started with Barbell squats today for the first time in a long while (because of my knee). I didn't do anything crazy but repping with 405 actually felt great!. I then did ATG feet close hack squats, leg press superset walking dumbbell lunges, laying leg curl, 1 set of leg extensions (knee was worn out by then), outer and inner thigh, one leg standing leg curls, and ab machine. We were both fired up today!

I have no idea what I weigh because I have not weighed myself in a while. I have been so busy at work and my schedule has been off so my normal weighing time has been off. Still waiting on my blood test results from USP Labs test booster.
