Turff49 Quest for Success

Nice, quick, and effective! I bet you had a killer pump! So we were talking about OHP maxes the other day. I tested my Push Press and it was 235, I thought maybe 245 but I have lost more strength than I thought. I think it is going to go up very quickly though. That was my first time doing them again and was a max attempt. I can only assume CNS gains will come quickly.

Light! Like lifting a car! SMHC!

Strong pressing as always, Brian.

Seems life and work has gotten in the way. Didn't get a workout in yesterday. Had to work today and also soon as I got home mowed the friggin yard. Monday gotta drive up to Va Beach. Meeting Tuesday drive back Wednesday. I'll get in what I can and post as time allows...
Maybe Back tonight and legs Monday early AM. May get Chest in tomorrow...
That's the plan anyway!

You can always pull over on the interstate and deadlift your car ;)

Dude... Deadlift...the...car!!!!!!

Well, it started off like a great workout...

One arm BB rows ss with Meadows
Left right one arm then left right meadows

One arm. Meadows
45 x 10. 45 x 10
70 x 10. 70 x 10
90 x 10. 90 x 10
115 x 10. 115 x 10
125 x 10. 125 x 10
135 x 10. 135 x 10
150 x 10. 150 x 10 left 4 right
Tweaked my right lower back on that 5th rep. I twisted a little probably due to fatigue and just had to drop it. Felt like a kidney punch and had a hard time just trying to bend over. Immediately in the house and foam rolled. Honestly doesn't feel like muscle, more like something out of alignment. Maybe right hip as my lower spine can't get out of alignment.
Dang it!!

Brian, sorry to hear man. I have done the exact same thing on Meadows or One Arms twice now... hope it heals fast

Thanks Simon. Yeah, I remember the last time you tweaked yours. Hope mine goes as well as yours did. It's feeling somewhat better and I can bend over now. When I started the 150's I told myself "concentrate" the left went fine the right, well I got in a hurry as it was the last set. Will definitely use the voltarin tonight!

Freakin hate, hate these tweaks to the back! Heal fast and maybe it's time to see a chiropractor.

I feel like an idiot right now. Pointed out where the pain was last night to the wife and she started laughing. Said " you think your so smart yet you don't remember what's right there?" I had that dumb look on my face and she says "dummy its your sciatic..."
For some stupid reason I was thinking when I had my fusions that my sciatic nerve couldn't give me any issues. Truly dumb thinking on my part lol. Glad I married a medical person...lol
Could the tightening of the muscles cause the sciatic nerve to flare up? How do I prevent this while still being able to go heavy?

I have tons of back issues. Chronic sciatica being a bad one. Lots of planks help me. And absolutely no twisting trunk movements. For me at least. I can go pretty heavy once I get worked back up but if I ain't got my body position square and on point it goes. But that's an every time kinda thing. I know it's going if i do those. But sometimes it goes when a sneeze. That area is a trick to manage

Do you think all the one arm rowing could be compromising your back? There is a lot of rotation or anti-rotation going on there. I have no lower back issues and I can feel the twisting from those movements at times. Wonder if a double landmine approach may be possible or better? No twisting on the back as you have weight evenly distributed on both sides.

I'll add that if you wear your wallet in the back pocket then move it to the front pocket. It took me years of recommendations from my older family to convince me that that wallet's pressure can cause back issues.

I hear you on the wallet Mark. I never put my wallet in my back pocket unless I'm going into a place.

I'm thinking all the sitting I do during the week now for work has contributed. I was always a walker, up moving around, only sitting in front of the computer for about 3hrs a day. I probably need to reassess my stretching at this point(after this subsides).

I hope it's not from the movement of the one arms and meadows because I get a much deeper stretch and really feel the isolation in the last. Just can't get that feeling doing the modified T-rows.

Guess I can go back to doing planks and see if that helps any.

I think a belt would help. Heavy Meadows' fatigue my back quicker than deadlifts.

You may be right! Not ruling out anything at this point.
So how is the quality of the Pioneer belt compared to the quality of the Inzer. Stitching, lever control, durability, etc. I know you own the Inzer but recommended the Pioneer so I'm guessing some people you know have the Pioneer.

What about bracing with the other arm on a bench or something to relieve the torque? That and belting may give enough support for the back.
On Register's recommendation I am going to buy a Pioneer belt as well.

Hope the back gets better soon buddy!

Sean in here has a Pioneer, and a lot of the popular lifters on IG have one or the other. I'd be willing to bet they are very similar (will stop short of saying identical). I recommend Pioneer because the owner frequently talks about his love of making belts, his love of his customers, and frequently has giveaways just because. Add to that that INZER ships months after advertised, I think Pioneer is the better company.

Same boat you Brian. I had surgery on L4/L5 to relieve sciatic never issues. When I hurt my back at times a sciatic shock hits me.

...hope you feel better

Ouch Turff!! Sciatic pain is rough!! I hope you feel better!!

Thomas - which size do you recommend on the belt? Want to get one ordered tonight or early am before I hit the road.

Some recommendations guys - which belt thickness do you recommend and which width? Want to get one ordered.

I have about 30% of my L5 left... removed in a discotomy 20 some yrs ago in an emergency surgery do to temporary paralysis.

I have to be very careful when lifting anything. its been pretty much a lifetime of pain and misery.

I have tons of back issues. Going on 15 years of tip toeing around it so life is comfortable. I feel ur pain. Literally. Lol. I hope u find an easy and quick solution

yep im good to go.. unfortunately there are no real quick solutions. For me Vax-D or spinal decompression is the best thing since sliced bread.
when I get to sore I just strap into my home gym for some good ol traction.

Depends on your ribcage and waist line. You can buiy a quality belt but if you don't have the right width for how far apart your ribs and hips are you wont be too happy. Since I am not a power lifter and I don't really have a waist I went with the Spud Inc Dead Lift Belt. I use if for squatting, dead lifting, heavy bent over rows, & overhead pressing. It is easy to put on and adjust and you are not restricted to finding the right hole. You just cinch the heavy duty velcro up.

I have NEVER had an issue with the velcro coming loose. There is too much of it and it is really heavy duty. Anyway the lever belts are pretty awesome if power lifting but you may really not need that much support not to spend that much on it for your endeavors.

This is the one I have and it has held up perfectly over the years. Is more comfortable and offers more than enough support for very heavy lifting. It is 3 ply.

Elite FTS is having sales on belts right now too. Lots of selection and up to 25% off I believe.

Ok, lots to think about on the belts. Will measure tonight and get one ordered. That Spud may work out fine for me since I can't dlift or do back squats.

Back on the road now...

I went 13mm, but hear the 10mm is better for deadlifts.

Kleens pic looks like a decent belt too. Not certain if it'll get quite as tight as a lever.

Go 10mm. Single prong or lever is your prerogative. Single prong will be a bit more flexible (I like my belt tightness different for different lifts).

This is spot on.. I have one of each.. the lever is locked to size unless you break out a screwdriver...

It doesn't take but a second to change it with the flathead, though. I keep a small one in my gym bag.

I'm 5'6" 165 lbs with a relaxed 34.5 inch waist. The Inzer Lever I have is a Large, 4 inch width. The belt has 60% size remaining. I do know the Medium was too small for me.

Thanks I used to have an inzer lever belt yeah this one gets as tight if not pretty close. The limiting factor is you pulling it tight. It is more comfortable and offers me a great amount of support. Plenty for anything I throw at it. The lever belts are far stiffer which is good but that is for a level of powerlifting I am not doing. I won't spend the money on that until I commit to powerlifting for a while. I will 's i it for a while at some point in the future.

Back from business trip. Let's just say my back did not cooperate well with me the entire trip. Not sure if it was the mattress or what. This time the pain was right at the spine. Very frustrating to say the least. The pain I can tolerate, not working out is very frustrating. Going to give it another day or 2 or 3 with no lifting, just foam rolling, massaging, and relaxing it.
Will get my belt ordered today. Decided to go with the spud that Chris linked to. My weight and size fluctuates so I need to be able to adjust and Velcro offers the best flexibility. I like a pretty stiff belt but not as stiff as some that I've seen. Thanks for all the opinions as I took them all into consideration.

I'll try and get caught up on logs as time permits.

FWIW, the lever belts are adjustable too.

New logging opportunity!!!
