Ok, made it home. So, the details:
I've worked for my present employer for 18 years. Construction and environmental manager all 18 years. They relocated me to Myrtle Beach back in 1998 and was suppose to relocate me back to Knoxville Tn whenever the project came to an end. But the project kept getting extended and we kept winning the contract. Well, I will have the environmental contamination pretty much cleaned up in the next few months. Problem is they only were willing to give me a lump sum of $5k to relocate back. So no dice on that. And they were planning to put me traveling all the time being gone from anywhere from 4 weeks to 6 months at a time with no trips home starting next month.
A few months ago a friend of mine kept telling me the company he works for wanted to talk to me. They do hotel/restaurant remodeling and do all kinds of other facility type work. Well, I broke down last month and talked to them after I had sent them my resume. We set up the 2nd interview for yesterday. Great guys and they made me a great deal. The good thing is I'll work from my house. Will be some travel involved obviously but mostly just overnight or be gone for 2-3 days. I officially will accept the job Monday morning and give my formal resignation to my current employer Monday also. Everything just seemed to add up for me to take this opportunity. Even to the point of I had mandatory training last month on Exit for Managers. That training is for how managers are suppose to handle employees either voluntarily leaving or being fired. Coincidence???? Not sure but I took it as a sign. Plus I wasn't even looking for a job yet and all this just transpires at the right time. I'm pretty stoked!
Oh, and after the interview they asked me a bunch of workout and diet questions, which was odd but pretty cool at the same time!
