Training During Fasting

What exercises or routines are optimal during a day of fasting and or which exercises should be avoided during fasting? Thank you in advance.

Many people especially those who want to lose body weight tend to fast and perform aerobic training. Some studies shows that fat loss did occur after these activities but me personally I couldn't even go upstairs and check my mail on a fasted state. As to what exercises to avoid, I have no clue since I've never tried to train while fasting.

Search "the benefits of intermittent fasting", you'll learn more about how your body works during fasting and then you'll realize you can do pretty much any workouts in a fasting state.

I've done some pretty high volume training on IF and was fine. Had one of my best leg workouts after 44 hours straight of fasting.

In my experience, and what I have my clients do is use a sled. Ideally if you are to use the sled, the best thing to do is use it on a lagging body part. Be exposive and hold the contraction.

Is cardio better than cardio while fasting? This is assuming the fast continues after the workout right?

If I was to do fasted cardio, I would be using a sled.

If there's a particular exercise that you seem to be plateauing on focus on that movement and associated assistance work.

I normally fast till afternoon workout, then break the fast about 30 minutes after I'm done. I actually try to work out in fasted state and have the best results doing that.

A day of fasting or a month long fast such as with Ramadan? Depending on the situation there are ways to deal with it.

Personally when I fast I do not use weights, but I will still perform cardio and the basics like burpees, mountain climbers, push ups, sit ups, etc. Dynamic stretching can help maintain mass IMO. Essentially though watch your health.

With Ramadan I believe you can eat before the sun rise so I would time the workout early morning before you eat. So depending on if it is for health, spiritual reasons and the volume it will alter what method you use to deal with it.

I eat breakfast, 1st break at work, then I fast until I lift. So from 9am till 3pm. I find it has helped my digestive system quite a bit. Even then what I eat for breakfast/break is organic celery, blueberries, apple, cottage cheese, Kashi, similar items. Then post workout I sacrifice a small animal to my body. lol

If you search his website for "intermittent fasting", he talks a lot about it.
The way you are doing it isn't really "fasting". It takes about six to eight hours for your body to metabolize your glycogen stores and after that you start to shift to burning fat. However, if you are replenishing your glycogen by eating every eight hours (or sooner), you make it far more difficult for your body to use your fat stores as fuel.

as for exercise in a fasted state, weight lifting is fine but depends on the individual. some people can handle strenuous workouts while others feel faint just sitting on the couch. the way I use IF is as follows and it has worked wonders for me. I fast from 8pm till 12pm the next day (16hours). at 11pm ( hour before I break my fast), I do an hour of cardio keeping my heart rate at 60-70% of my max which is optimal for fat burnin during exercise. after I finished I then begin my 8 hour eating window and I eat as if I am bulking so that enables me to get all my macronutrients into my system especially carbs to be used as glycogen for when I do my weight training later that afternoon. personally I find this is an awesome way to be able to lose fat and still gain muscle. it is quite tough to fast, train twice a day and then jam all your calories into a small 8 hour window but it can be done and it works wonders. try it and let me know how you go
