I have a friend at work who's around 62 years old. He is an extremely strict Mormon so his decisions are not always based on logic. He was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer and decided to treat it himself. He decided to purge his system and fasted for 52 days, drinking only water and green tea, believing he got enough nutrients that way. Twice during the fast he drank Epson salts dissolved in a glass of water to help purge his system. Then on day 52 he ate a salad and got very sick. Went to the doctor's and discovered that he had destroyed his gallbladder and it was gangrened. They removed it but he refused to have his thyroid operated on.
Having said that, what's the best thing I can recommend him to do short of surgery, which I am 100% in favor of?
