Thoughts on supplements for the heart?

My fianc'e has had heart problems all of her life, mer-mer etc. And has been to countless doctors who haven't been able to do much to help her,(her palse race's above 200 after simple task's at time's)

Can anyone please suggest a few supplements that would be safe for her to take that could strengthen the heart?

Cq10,hawthor berry thorn extract.....(Those are the only two that come to mind off the top of my own head)


Any advice is truely welcome, thanks.

I honestly wouldn't even risk anything other than taking suggestions here to your doctor and see how they feel. I'm sorry for your wife's condition.

Look into magnesium supplementation. It's often an overlooked deficiency that can lead to palpitations. Before I supplemented with it, my mitral valve prolapse would hurt often. I now never even feel it. Magnesium-Potassium Asporotate by Solaray is a good one.

CoQ is more of a protectant on the anti-oxidant and lipid stabilizing side. Don't think it would do anything for murmur..but I doubt it would hurt.

Do some research on an herb called Arjuna and see if it applies to her situation.

As Jay said, be very cautious about giving her anything and work in conjunction with your Dr whenever possible.

The betain might be a good addition. I would get the homocysteine levels (HL) checked first though, but I think I see where you are coming from....

High HL can result in blood vessel blockage, thereby making her existing condition worse?

High HL can also lead to the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein wich damages the arteries.

Fish oil, CoQ10 maybe with tocopherols and tocotrienols, garlic, magnesium, green tea/green tea extract, resveratrol

don't smoke, lose weight, eat more vegetables/polyphenols, reduce trans/saturated fat intake (replace with monounsaturated fats), work out regularly, avoid caffeine and stimulants (if applicable)

maybe sesamin, alpha lipoic acid, chromium, vitamin c, opc's, antioxidants.
