The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

Invalid Link Removed

Small company (from what I read online) only seven flavors.

This pint was pretty good. 8/10
The swirl was massive
Mix-ins were plenty (but not enough IMO)

Going to work my way through their pints

Graeters Oatmeal Raisin Cookie (Initial Review)
.
"crumbles of oatmeal and raisins in our rich, creamy ice cream with a subtle dusting of cinnamon." Graeter's description of their latest summer bonus released Monday 6/12/2017. This flavor will only be available in scoop shops and for online orders.
.
The base resembles a 50/50 mix of their vanilla and cheesecake flavors. The dusting of cinnamon is very strong and packs a noticeable luscious aftertaste in each and every bite. The density of the ice cream due to the french pot processing helps enhance the bold flavor in each and every bite.
.
The mix-ins were were a 70/30 split of raisins to cookies. While I would of loved to have more cookies that is just how the cookie crumbles. The raisins are fresh and the cookies bind perfectly into the ice cream. With the sheer amount of cinnamon flavor found the base it pairs well with the two mix-ins. Overall I am pleased. This has a top 5 potential behind fudge brownie that was released 2 weeks ago. Buckeye, Cheese Crown, CnC, and Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip are my top 4 choices.
.
Grade: 8/10 (May vary once I consume the 3 extra scoops I brought home with me)

Anotha

Mix-ins were plentiful on this pint. There were more toffee bits than blonde brownie chunks though. Also, the maple sauce was a MASSIVE swirl with a full bodied flavor.

This one is the winner of the two pints I've tried thus far.

9/10

Where are these from (locale?)

"Cinnamon ice cream with housemade fig newtons"

Invalid Link Removed

There is a strong cinnamon flavor, but it also entails a buttery aftertaste like in a fresh made cinnamon roll.

Invalid Link Removed

The fig newtons are soft on the outside, but packed with a thick filling on the inside which was totally unexpected. The filling has an apple cinnamon flavor to it that enhances every aspect of the experience.

Simple and executed flawlessly.

The product is subject to a packaging failure during distribution where foreign material (plastic from the packaging) was found in the product.

It was a joke bud.

Although, I would rather have a piece of plastic that I can pick out of my mouth than listeria.

Quality of Jeni's has not been the same, small changes in some of the flavors (ingredient profile wise) which is probably a major factor. They stopped making their fudge cakes in shop too which were absolutely ridiculous good. When I head to columbus I may sample some new Jeni's flavors, but Graeter's is just that much better in almost all aspects. Plus... 1870 towers are just.. well. Amazing. haha

No, I don't believe so.

Better than listeria tho, amirite?!

Locale (as in where, regionally), not local ha

Thought the same thing... can't pick listeria out of my ice cream and continue haha

Had B&J Smores for the first time. Not bad, but not worth re-buying, IMO. Would have been better with a soft marshmallow swirl; I couldn't discern "toasted marshmallow" from the graham cracker most of the time.

That's one of the worst smores ever
Their chocolate base is awful

7-11, graeters, gelato fiasco are all far better and grocery store brands you can grab

7-11 has ridiculous swirls for a gas station ice cream

Giffords if you can find it is a sleeper too!

Wish we had 7-11's around here.

If Graeters has a store pint Smores, I havent seen it, yet. Still need to head up to Lville to get that oatmeal raisin.

Handel's Twixter:
Grade: B+

"Vanilla ice cream with caramel ripple, chocolate chips, and sugar cookie pieces."

Invalid Link Removed

The vanilla ice cream used in Handel's bases is made in house from scratch. The quality of it is very close to Graeter's, but not as dense. The vanilla flavor shines but the best aspect is the sweet and luscious aftertaste it does provide.

Invalid Link Removed

The swirl was the highlight of the pint as the chocolate chip pieces and sugar cookie pieces were icing on the cake. The chocolate chip pieces are smaller versions of Ben & Jerry's fudge flakes. While they are nothing to rave over, they pack a nice milk chocolate flavor to enhance the caramel swirl and vanilla base. The sugar cookie pieces were hard to find which kind of let me down.

Ample hills with another new flavor
No word is available for online shipping yet

Meh does not seem like it'll be worth it despite AH having some killer pints.

Tough to say because AH Doesn't do a lot of collabs with companies that produce pastries or legit baked goods. The quality of them may be worth the scoop. These will only be for Scoop Shops, so we are out of luck for online ordering.

Not we, you ... as I couldn't order if it was available anyways

All good. New Little G's coming next month. Should be good stuff with her picking 6 flavors that customers requested! She filled a 200 page microsoft word document with requests. Hopefully one of mine got picked! I put mine in for:

Cannoli Crunch - Graham Cracker Base, Mascarpone Swirl, Chocolate Covered Cannoli Chunks
Under the Campfire - Marshmallow Base, Graham Cracker Swirl, Chocolate Swirl, Chocolate Covered Graham Cracker Pieces

Arctic Zero just emailed me to send me out a package of pints for a review on my IG. Methinks they don't realize I'm in Canada; good luck shipping it!

And I doubt I would supply the type of review they are hoping for...

COTTON CANDY
Studded with pink, purple, and blue bits of cotton-candy bits that reminded us of Nerds, this Blizzard is super sweet. We loved how much it tasted like our favorite carnival treat. This is DQ's Blizzard for June, so you better move quickly if you want to give it a whirl.

FROSTED FUDGE BROWNIE
Debuting in July, this chocolatey number is spun with gooey gobs of brownie and chocolate flakes. We couldn't get enough of its brownie-batter flavor.

SALTED CARAMEL BLONDIE BROWNIE
Also out in July, this new Blizzard was basically a mash-up of cookie butter, caramel, and brownie bites. It was sweet, salty, crunchy, smooth, and chewy — everything we want from a loaded ice cream.

TRIPLE TRUFFLE
The truffles in this bad boy are loaded with peanut butter, caramel, and fudge. Basically it's a chocolate addict's dream come to life. Order one this August when it rolls out to DQ locations nationwide.

BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE
Saving the best for last, Dairy Queen will be combining cake and ice cream into one perfect cup come September. In addition to rich chocolate cake pieces, there's white icing, chocolate chunks, and cocoa fudge. It's an overload of birthday-inspired madness and we are HERE FOR IT.

Coming Monday Graeter's to release another Summer Bonus flavor, and possibly another one before July 16th (national ice cream day)

We're making something SPECIAL for Monday's NEW Bonus Flavor unveil. Here's a hint: it's reminiscent of your childhood. Here's another hint: It's NOT the flavor being made in this photo

Have a phone call with Bob Graeter next week on flavor suggestions and productions for the future. Hopefully he will take some of my considerations!

I wish more companies attempted cotton candy. The Great Value isn't quite as sweet as I would hope for, but honestly if it had more little pieces in it, that's all it truly needs to be so much better.

I think it's hard to match mix-ins with CC

Bits of Nerds/candy doesn't seem like enough. I'm sure it satisfies the hell out of a sweet tooth though!

Handel's Snix:

"Peanut butter ice cream with a caramel swirl and chocolate covered peanuts."

Invalid Link Removed

First you are presented with a dense peanut butter flavor, next comes the creaminess of fresh peanut butter, and lastly a salty aftertaste. This hits the trifecta of every aspect in a peanut butter you would want.

Invalid Link Removed

With a larger swirl like Twixter this would give Buckeye, Spouse like a House, Salted Caramel Pretzel, and Graham Central Station a run for its money as my favorite flavors from Handel's. If you are a fan of snickers and peanut butter this is a flavor you can not pass.

^^^That sounds great - love snickers. I never heard of that flavour from them before :(

My pint of spouse was a bit light on mix-ins so was not among my favs from Handels. Graham Central was one of the best! But coconut crème pie was unreal, my clear favorite.

Absolutely insane

"Graham cracker ice cream, with signature chocolate chips, and marshmallows "
.
This was released in 2016 for online orders only and sold out in a week. Now that this is back it was a must to grab it again. This is a LE summer flavor it will be gone soon!
.
Base: The ice cream is rich, dense, and packs a serious cinnamon aftertaste taste. The graham cracker is pure and decadent in flavoring. Compared to the marshmallow in 2016 base this was a genius move!
.
Mix-ins: Right away my first bite packed a thick marshmallow chunk that had a fantastic sweetness in the aftertaste. Graeter's is known for their signature chocolate chips and they are scattered everywhere in this pint. The milk chocolate melts away in each and every spoonful, and compliments the marshmallow pieces and graham cracker ice cream perfectly.

Its different now.. They changed the marshmallow base from last year to a Graham Cracker base.
Think 7/11 Graham cracker but better.. The marshmallows are soft, melt in your mouth, and graeters signature chips as we know are just $$$$$
