The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

A look at the new May Flavors from Little G's coming.
Should be a cookie collab from last time I talked to her..

Invalid Link Removed

My guess is a PB and J Cookie flavor with a Strawberry swirl
That is going to be a 10/10

White chocolate Macadamia cookie, raspberry swirl.

If that's not it, it should be

2nd time is a charm

Invalid Link Removed

Except they forgot to send the correct flavors (wanted 2 Cin not 2 Hat Trick)

That's not a charm then ha. When I pay a shiiitton for something gimme what I bought. Jesus.

my OG order was what is above (2 Hat, 2 Land and 1 Cin). Then the order came and it was melted.
I emailed the lady before they shipped the replacement and she wrote "No problem, I have submitted your change of flavor request. As always, thank you for your continued support!"

Guess that wasn't the case. I emailed them back regarding not coming through with the correct flavors. They are all gone now (those 3 flavors) because they are all sold out. So we will see what happens. I swear my luck with ice cream is horrible.

Grabbed a 2.50 tub of Walmart brand Cotton Candy ice cream the other day on a whim. Pretty good for as cheap as it is. Only thing I'd ever had comparable was the cotton candy Blizzard from DQ last summer. This doesn't taste as sweet and also lacks the little crunchy bits just a bit from the Blizzard. But not bad at all for a change of pace and for that cheap.

the great value stuff is actually pretty solid for the price... like half the price of a pint and you get 10x the ice cream ha. worth it for the fun flavors too

Definitely not packed with mix-ins (not that I'd expect it), but flavors are pretty decent. With this, I wish it was just that touch sweeter and have just a bit more of the little crunchy flakes in there, but to be honest, those two things were all that separated it from the Blizzard for me. And that's like $3 just for a small, so this is a winner for a change of pace flavor.

Clementines Gooey Butter Cake
Grade: A
Invalid Link Removed

"Tangy cream cheese, butter, & chunks of Park Avenue’s award-winning Gooey Butter Cake."

Invalid Link Removed

Cream cheese base surpasses New Orleans Ice Cream Co as the best on the market. The density and creaminess that resemble custard just give this the edge in all aspects. Has that perfect sweetness and tanginess combination to make a true cream cheese flavor.

Invalid Link Removed

If you are a fan of Ample Hills Ooey Gooey Butter Cake invest in this ASAP. Not only are the mix-ins made from a local coffee house in which she does a collab with. The texture is perfect, extremely moist and packed full of flavor. The chewiness, freshness, and flavor of these just beat AH in all directions.

Bingo
The quality of brands like salt and straw, clementines, little G, ample hills etc are light years above buying grocery stuff like mass produced Ben and jerrys or blue bell

It's like comparing a burger from McDonald's to one from a top end restaurant. Yes you pay a bit more for quality and a better burger instead of dethawed mass produced meat

Clementines from their website
Salt and straw from their website
Ample hills you can get on amazon or a lot more flavors on their website
Little G on goldbely . I have a code I can give you for a discount
When are we going to start a new protein ice cream that isn't 5$ plus a pint

Buying those halo tops, arctic zeros and crap in the store is a waste of money
1 scoop whey , 1 cup almond milk + Ice cream maker = Saves you tons of money. and its not full of junk and overpriced.

I know man I love halo top birthday cake. But just saying with your talent in kitchen and my knowledge of Facebook ads Google AdWords and ppc we could do big things. They can't keep halo top on the shelfs here in Florida. A comparable product slightly cheaper could make huge profits.

And artic ice is terrible and it sells. It blows my mind

i tried 2 pints of halo top, the company sent them to me for free. Will never touch again. I chucked them after I was about 1/4th of the way through them. Tasted like pure garbage and watered down chemicals.

Birthday cake is not bad but artic zero is way worse.

Tons of love for Halo Top within the AM community, but totally agree on Arctic Zero
Dude in Florida ladies fight for halotop always sold out except lemon cake which I actually don't mind. But surprised a supplement company hasn't stepped into the ice cream game the demand is there with no supply

Shipping... it would have to be on dry ice. and that is VERY expensive.

Man do a local run in Florida and find a distributor get Publix Walmart super Target. And your ice cream machine wouldn't be able to keep up. I swear you have to be in the secret club and know when they stock it to get any good flavor. They buy it by 10 pints a time and empty it. These Florida middle age mom's are vicious over it. I can't believe that it's always sold out.

*** Put a big name protein producer on it and it would sell faster.

your missing the point.
Nobody would do it locally. If you are a supplement company you will be shipping nation wide, not to a specific location. Again Dry ice shipping, your looking at 30-50$ depending where in the united states on one package alone of say 3-6 pints worth.

Do you really want to fork over that much for something that doesn't cost more then a few dollars to make in a pint?
The revenue to be made, probably not as much as a prop blended pre-workout which costs a like $10-15 to make and people sell it for $30

Guess your right I'll just get inside scoop and buy inventory and markup sell on the side to all the ice cream addicts. It just reminds me of when hurricanes come and people fight over water at stores.

You all need to find enlightened. Similar cals to halo top (which I really like fwiw) but 100% blows them away in terms of flavor, creaminess, mix ins, etc. many of their flavors are better than full cal brands of the same flavor.

Halo top is delicious idc what you say....is ample bills better...yes but for a quarter of the calories and it had 0protein and fiber it is way. M9re worth any other 8's cream purchase in my mind

And u know how much I love ice cream

Uh oh, mkretz dropping the gauntlet....

Where you at, The Solution ???

lolol

I am sorry. It tastes like pure garbage. I had 2 pints sent by the company and it tasted like watered down garbage. You can buy it as you plesae. I will never drop 5-6$ on that ever. Ill stick to making protein ice cream for a quarter of the cost which tastes better too.

So which is it? Pure or watered down??

Could care less. It is not something I would ever invest in.
Ill stick to whole food, sludge or protein ice cream.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I tried it and was 100% honest with the company and their products.

I honestly think it's just context.

If you're on a cut or eating very healthy/avoiding things like full cal ice cream and you try HT, you'll love it.

If you're not, it won't taste anywhere near as good (and as a result, seem bad). It's the same way protein bars are for me. Carb Killa bars can taste wonderful. OR, if I've just eaten an actual candy bar and then try one, it tastes like trash lol. All context.

I have been to the bottom of the barrel for calories and through 3 contest preps. I would never invest in HT even when my calories got that low. Much better options to fill myself up and stay sane. But again its all personal preference.

Agreed that it's personal preference. And I'm not a chef, either; so I'd wager your tastebuds are significantly more refined than mine (I like Bud Light Lime, for what it's worth, so that should tell you what I like lol). But can you agree you understand where I'm coming from even if you personally don't enjoy the taste of it?

Clementine's Baklava
Invalid Link Removed
Grade: A-

"Baklava ice cream with homemade baklava pieces."

Invalid Link Removed

You get two dominant flavors that include a rich buttery initial taste, and a long lasting honey aftertaste. Since Baklava is a very sweet dessert layered with nuts and soaked in honey this makes sense.

Invalid Link Removed

The pieces are still very rich, soft, and have a chewy compliment taste to the rich ice cream base. There are small crunches of the nuts that are scattered in the house made baklava pieces, but you get the extra luscious richness of the honey in each and every mix-in.

Clementines... worth every penny.

A week later and no email, I come home and there is a package with 2 Pints of "The Cin"
CS from Ample Hills comes through after the package was not modified. I must of got the last of this because its now off the website.

Also...this recipe makes nothing even remotely similar to halo top...I've done it numerous to.as and I would have halo top over his every time....def not watered down

Salt & Straw Petunia’s Cookies & Cream with Raspberry Swirl
Invalid Link Removed
Grade: B+ (A+ for Vegan Ice Cream)

"vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, non-nothin-but-delicious homemade oreo's in our cold scooped, full fat, coconut-based ice cream with a raspberry swirl."

Pro tip from LLN on vegan ice cream. Let it temper for at least 15-20 minutes due to how hard vegan ice cream is.
While this is not as premium as their regular lineup the consistency and texture is very creamy. (assuming proper temper) The base is extra dense due to being a vegan ice cream. The base has a mixture of sweet cream and a coconut aftertaste.

Invalid Link Removed

The Cookies:
The outside chocolate shell has a very crunchy texture and the flavoring is spot on as you would expect. You get exactly what you want a crispy outside shell, a thick sweet cream filling, and an oreo that is light years above what you buy in a store, and quite frankly better then Ample Hills cookie mix-ins.

Invalid Link Removed

The Swirl:
The Raspberry swirl is killer as expected. S&S has never shortchanged me on a swirl before as they get bigger the further you dig. The raspberry flavoring is potent and super rich. It is like they took fresh raspberries and smashed them in house and enhanced them with sweeteners.

Little G New flavors just dropped. Collab with MdoughW

Slutty MdoughW – Vanilla bean ice cream with chocolate chunk brownie MdoughW pieces and chocolate sandwich cookies

Peanut Butter Fudge MdoughW – Peanut butter ice cream with triple chocolate fudge MdoughW pieces and fudge swirl

I have a coupon code for $25 off your first order if anyone is interested in picking them up.

Salt & Straw Coconut with Petunia’s Salted Caramel Bars
Grade: B+
Invalid Link Removed

"This ultra-creamy coconut ice cream is drizzled with dreamy caramel, dotted with housemade chocolate ganache, and studded with chunks of salted caramel bars from Portland’s Petunia’s Pies and Pastries."

Invalid Link Removed

The base is pretty similar to the Cookie and Cream pint I did just visit that was a vegan flavor. Even though these are vegan flavors you still get a very rich, creamy, and dense base. While it may temper and melt faster then a usual S&S Flavor the quality and amount of flavor does not disappoint.

Invalid Link Removed

The further I dug I was a bit upset that I barley got any chocolate bars.
Not only is this a swirl, but it got so large I was eating chunks of this towards the bottom. The overall richness, sweetness, and taste is one of the best caramel's I have ever had.

Easily could be one of S&S's best flavors if I got some adequate chocolate bars/mix-ins.

Salt & Straw Cinnatopia:
Invalid Link Removed
Grade: B+ 2017, A+ 2016

"Cinnamon roll, cinnamon gaweyness with ribbons of frosting! – bits of cinnamon roll and cinnamon and sugar and vanilla ice cream and ribbons of frosting".

Invalid Link Removed

Due to the richness of all the cinnamon elements you would swear this is a cinnamon ice cream base. Even the color of the ice cream looks similar to the cinnamon snickerdoodle flavor. The addition of cinnamon and sugar to this pint really takes that vanilla to another level.

Invalid Link Removed

Now in 2016 these were massive (Cinnamon Rolls), in 2017 these are not as large as before. I will say the cinnamon roll chunks are consistent from top to bottom once you breach the surface. They provide that gooey and fresh baked taste even frozen inside an ice cream. The flavor of the dough is top notch like it is fresh from a bakery. The kicker is the buttery richness that you get in the aftertaste like the dough is melting in your mouth.

This is why 2016 was better...

Snagged this from Hy-Vee in my hometown. Saw it in Peoria, as well. Decided on this pint. Really solid. Instead of vanilla ice cream with the chocolate, it was caramel. Mixed together, it almost made a coffeish flavor. The regular and pb cookie dough balls rocked. Only 3.29 for the pint, too. There was another brand that looked interesting and it was 6/pint. I would have gambled on some more, but I grabbed the only 5 flavors of Enlightened they had since Dan ranks them so highly (as far as low cal ice cream goes). I'll sample them over the next couple weeks once I'm back home.

oooohhhh which did you get? They just came out with 2 more new ones (triple chocolate and strawberry cheesecake - both amazing (tho the SC is a "fake"/candy-like flavor, I really like that though). I have yet to have one I disliked and frankly I think you'll be STUNNED at the creaminess and general "mouth feel" of any of them.

UK flavor coming to the US

Another flavor full of fudge chunks ... b and j is getting absurd putting these in every single flavor

Oddfellows hinted at online ordering later this year ... LLN may have more insight on that for the future as he raves it as one of the best companies he has had.

low hopes for a good banana from them unfortunately.

Tried oat of this swirled last week... tastes like vanilla ice cream with big chocolate flakes. Super boring and not even a hint of the brown sugar or any oatmeal type flavor (even the scoops that were mostly swirl - which were few and far).

Probabl still gonna try the urban bourbon just because the ale was good tho.

Out of all the new flavors they dropped. There has yet to be anything really good to come from them. Choc Cherry Garcia, Oat of this swirled, bourbon, caramel cookie,
Lets create a new flavor and just throw some more fudge flakes in there.. cause you know.. innovation

the fudge flakes are pretty legit tho... the ones in my pint were mostly about 1" long x 1/2" wide... one of their better mix ins, albeit boring.

Dan -- I got the sea salt caramel, cookie dough, pb cup, caramel oatmeal cookie, and hot cocoa.

I'll dip into them slowly over time.

Really sad how much my parents' Hy-Vee has compared to what I have here lol. So many unique brands and flavors. And my town is substantially larger!! Lol

Man, I thought "Til the cows come home" we're TERRIBLE. My pints had minimal mix-ins and the base was light.

That particular one was solid. Not Graeters level, but close to on par with B&J at least and that was the flavor that sounded the best to me.
