The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

well dont knock em til you try em... I really enjoyed them. especially in the freezer. Plain, they're just ok, but the freezer makes the creme taste really shine over the cookie (which overpowers it at room temp)... none of the "medicine" taste i had read about... if you like SF, you'll like them. maybe not LOVE, but like.

i had halo top before and arctic zero
The company asked if i would review their flavors. And they sent me a few in the mail
i ended up barley making it 1/4th of the way through the pint and threw the rest in the trash

absolute Garbage. My stomach was turning and flavors tasted very watered down. I would never justify spending 5-6$ each pint. But again everyone has their preference. i rather make a huge batch of protein ice cream which is far cheaper and most protein powders are flavored better.

Don't get butt hurt mayne. I call them like I see them.

Hook him up with some X-Gels and it's mutually beneficial.

not butt hurt, just clarifying that I knew that was a one-sided deal haha.. oreos for LE, local, high quality IC isn't ever gonna be fair unless they only make one box of PB&J donut oreos and the other guy has them

ummmm we were talking about oreos?

Yeah, but now I want to talk about Halo Top!

Their PR team needs to step up and start making some announcements about when I can expect to see these delicious new flavors to try.

And as for the cost/pint -- it's something I by no means would eat on a regular basis, but it's a nice treat on occasion. Just the same as spending ~$15/pint or whatever it is for those ones that are delivered.

It all boils down to what we want to do individually and we all have different budget goals, macro goals, and taste buds.

Lettuce just agree that ice cream is wonderful. And it should bring us together, not tear us apart.

I'm MidwestBeast and I approve this message.

Invalid Link Removed my Kroger had ALL of them as of today! Went with s'mores first but will be working my way through the lineup.

Neither of our Krogers had any of the new flavors -- wife checked one on her way home and I hit the other. Hers was completely OOS on everything and mine had I think 3 of the OG flavors in.

Someone on another board posted this about No Sleep Till Pumpkin from AH

No Sleep Till Pumpkin has plenty of mix ins, nice big chunks of the pumpkin gooey cake, and the base is nice and smooth. It tastes like a cappuccino to me.

Interested to hear your thoughts whenever you get a chance to try. I'd wager the higher cals on these are for mix-ins. I need to live vicariously through you until my local Krogers step up lol.

I'l crack it saturday. I checked two other krogers by me and one had spots for all but only the balck cherry stocked, one had nothing (its a smaller one that usually carries less).

Only store around here that carries them is Wegmans since we don't have a Kroger hope it doesn't take too long for them to get these

Everything about this sucked.
Weak flavour (how do you make peppermint weak...) , even fewer oreos than the normal Oreo, only enough candy cane to get stuck in your teeth as you eat.

That sucks.

But I'm not gonna lie, you seem really angry (at least that's how I read the review in my head) and that makes me laugh.

I just want to see you angrily review really bad ice cream, now.

CAPS LOCK FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or I could rock a video review

With lots of cursing

ITS LIKE YOU JUST SHREDDED ONE OREO, SCATTERED ITS CORPSE AROUND A TUB OF BARELY FLAVOURED FROZEN DESSERT, THEN PASTED A PICTURE ON THE TOP OF WHAT IT IN NO ****ING WAY LOOKS LIKE.

Please do this.

I legitimately think this is your chance to be famous.

Angry Chef or something like that and then you link all your WheyToBake stuff from the YT channel.

Angry junk food reviews could be a new spin on JunkBanter

If it got 10% the following we'd be doing great, who's in?

Stopped by my Kroger today to grab a card and decided to look at the ice cream section. I found cookie dough and mocha chocolate chip (which isn't new, but has never been stocked here). Decided to head to the other one and found red velvet and chocolate almond.

The first one had spots for several others all empty. So not sure if they're preparing or already ran out of stock.

Cracked this one to try first. Mix-ins aren't overwhelming, but not expected given the calories. Pleasantly surprised with how evenly they were mixed in and flavor was solid, IMO. Not as rich as actual cake (obviously lol), but I'm happy with it.

Baskin Robbin's Mom's Makin Cookies:

Overall for a first time experience with Baskin Robin's I was very satisfied. This store bought pint had the consistency of Ample Hills and Salt and Straw as far as compliments go. While the base is not up to par with quality of some of the top dogs on the ice cream market it was satisfactory. The combination of brown sugar and cookies left a very good flavor mixture. The small amount of chocolate chips gave you a brown sugar chocolate chip cookie replica and had a powerful swirl of cookie dough. I have heard some hit or miss reviews on Baskin Robins, but this was a very positive encounter.

Grade: B+

Found the halo top oatmeal cookie yesterday so I got to try that and s'mores:

Oatmeal cookie is surprisingly not very sweet. Lots of actual oat flakes throughout. It's a GREAT representation of an actual oatmeal cookie, not oat raisin. It's a very nice level of sweet and oaty. I really liked it.

S'mores was just alright. Lots of choc chips in it which was nice but it lacked any strong marshmallow or graham flavors. More like vanilla/choc/hint of cinn/graham. Good and worth the cals but not their best.

The consistency and texture of these two was even better than og halo tops tho. Super creamy. You'd never know they were low cal.

Lemon cake still my top choice but oatmeal has taken a close second.

Tried the cookie dough as well and it's good, but red velvet was better IMO and definitely more unique

Chunks? Comparison in taste?
Cookie Dough had little tiny balls throughout, but tinier than anything I've ever had. I'm trying to think of a right size and it may actually be pea sized. Enough to add something, but just kind of meh. I think when you factor that in with it basically being a vanilla it's good, but there are better options.

Red velvet had fewer chunks, but the ones that were there had better taste, IMO.

Just finished cookies and cream and it's in between the 2 for me.

No chunks at all; just like crumb dust mixed all the way in. So every bite has it, but it's just kind of gritty and I would rather have like 8 actual chunks over that.

I can vouch for Mike's Hot Honey...

...but I can also vouch for the fact that this is another half-a$$ed effort on their part...brb, take Sweet as Honey, change one ingredient, new name, profit.

So I'm in cincinatti and there's a graeters right next to my hotel... which means I finally got to try cheese crown...

holy hell is it a letdown. literally vanilla ice cream with vanilla wafer pieces. Super pissed I wasted my money and I actually threw 90% of it away to go eat better food.

^wtf ? That is odd

Not vanilla (or bland) at all in my 3 pints
GNO has rescooped a bunch too

Agree with this 100% Have had 3 pints myself each one was glorious.

Did you try a sample? 1-2 scoops or a pint of it? Throwing away 90% of it means you maybe had a few bites, if that much at all. Next time if worst comes to worst grab a buckeye :)

First off its a Cheescake ice cream, not a vanilla, and there is no wafer pieces.. it has cinnamon sugar pastry pieces and fondant icing flakes . Wondering if you had a bad experience, because it tastes FAR from vanilla with how strong the cheesecake base is.
Mine was loaded with Cinnamon Sugar Pastry Pieces

They have changed nothing about Cheesecrown.

I've had 2 pints and both were solid.

B&J sticky buns came close, but this still topped it for me
