McConnells is one of the best on the market
Straight from California
PB, Sweet Cookies and Cream and Peanut Brittle are 3 killer flavors.

Salt & Straw, McConnells would be two of the best out there. Quality is pretty good and similar to Handel's .

If you are a person who loves pumpkin, and will go head over heels for a basic pumpkin ice cream this will be a wise investment. For someone who needs a mix-in or compliment to a pumpkin ice cream I would pass. Many enjoy a graham cracker swirl, marshmallow ripple, or a heavy dose of pumpkin spice to put together the pieces to a perfect pumpkin ice cream. While this may not crack my top 5 overall pumpkin ice creams I have had in the past, there could be room for improvement. If Trader Joe's decided to throw in a swirl (why turkey hill got the edge), or other mix-ins this would get a higher grade. I ended up mixing a few Jo Jo's into the last few scoops to give it a nice upgrade.

Grade: C+

my buddy in columbus grabbed me a pint of the PB and the sweet cream and cookies which are supposed to be their #1/#2 best.

They do stock Gelato Fiasco as well which has some killer flavors. Highly suggest looking into some of those too boone.

I went to a Fresh Market in Texas ... I love that store and they had an amazing selection of premium pints.

I was able to grab 6 Handel's pints from a road trip my boyyyyy mkretz made to the scoop shop. I started off with Oreo Dough which is vanilla ice cream with Oreo cookie pieces and cookie dough. The Solution has a review of his own of this flavour on ICI and he got it spot on... It sounds so simple, but it is so good. With the amount and the quality of the mixins Handel's uses this is an A+. Easily cracks my top 5 pints, beating Graeter's Buckeye.

If you thought this was good CCCD Is just as good. but more cookie dough mix-ins :)

I scooped Ample Hills Salted Crack Caramel tonight. The Solution
AH describes it as "Salted butter caramel ice cream with Deb's Famous Ctack cookies: saltine crackers coated with butter, sugar and chocolate".

I bought it off the description despite poor reviews, especially from PBI who said it taste like "burnt caramel".
On the first spoonful I got hit with a strong burnt caramel flavour that had me doubting this decision. However, it mellowed out after the third spoonful and for the rest of the pint, phew. On to the mix-ins, one word: amazing! I first hit them on the fourth or fifth spoonful and could not have come sooner. These crack cookies make this pint, if there were more and the base was a bit better maybe could be an A.

Speaking of ice cream
May make a handels run next weekend. Before i start my new job, may take a ride to columbus and hit TJ's, Handel's, Fresh Market (Mcconnells)

Cotton Candy + Birthday Cake from Handels
PB + Sweet Cream and Cookies (Mcconnells)
Gonna try to hit Pumpkin Pie Gelato from Gelato Fiasco if Fresh Market stores it

Columbus may be a ZOO of traffic they play MSU and ESPN will be there for 2 top 10 teams playing.
I think pittsburgh has a fresh market 15 minutes from the Handels i go to, may be a safer trip.
and one last stock up. time off will be limited.

They were all tasty, I'm just not a fan of 60% of my ice cream being chunks of... not ice cream haha. It Came from Gowanus and the Oatmeal Lace were my favorites from AH. The coconut milk based dark chocolate was very good too if you're a fan of straight bittersweet chocolate.

These days I'm gravitating more towards gelato from Dolcezza
 
Graeter's strikes a nice balance between mix-ins and ice creams for me. Ample Hills just goes way overboard. It would be better if their mix ins were smaller or evenly broken down, but finding two 1'' x .5'' x .5'' chunks of frozen whatever in every bite got pretty old, fast.

I don't mind a eating halved oatmeal cookies in an ice cream offering or full peanut butter cups, cookies, etc. Just my personal preference.

i have got my fair share of pints that were supposed to have plentiful mix-ins and had next to nothing. Which makes for buyers remorse on some flavors/brands. Sometimes you can not win every battle with ice cream. some are better than others

I read your previous post and mistakenly interpreted it as less mix-ins than base...I love my mix-ins so AH seems right down my alley. I really enjoyed the crack cookies in SCC so looking forward to the others.

Ample Hills is perfect for you then. Unfortunately it looks like only a few of their flavors are available online. The Gowanus and Prospect Heights locations have special flavors too. I think there are at least 14-18 on rotation daily at their shops.

I heard their pumpkin is unreal. Some guy did a review on bb.com and it looked ridiculous.

No pic but base is nice & tons of cookie pieces of varying size. At first they were small then I started hitting bigger chunks lol. B+/A-... Only thing I would suggest is they add choc chunks to it.

I told you that in your emails when you were considering 3 pints and not including the oatmeal in your selection (you wanted to split with marty)

many rank it better than the GOAT B&J Flavor OCC (Oatmeal cookie chunk) that is why i suggested it for you.

all of these flavors sound right up my alley... might ahve to put an order in here sometime I know I'll be home to receive it ha... cant have ice cream sitting on the porch for a week
