The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

Halo Top just contacted me on Instagram to review their ice cream free of charge and they would ship me a pint or two.
Don't mind if i do!

My girl gets so much free food on insta cuz she has an absurd # of followers that like her rabbit food pics. Yes, I'm way jealous.

Only problem is since Halo Top
Is not a huge seller they won't ship to me they sent me some coupons to print out and use . No halo top near me until I make a trip to Columbus or Pittsburgh lol

So that will have to wait lady sent me two coupons instead of one

New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Mississippi Debris

Mississippi Debris is really a curve ball to a death by chocolate spin off with added marshmallow's (think rocky road). The massive amount of mix-ins may turn some people away because not everyone enjoys a heavy loaded pint. The Cherry addition was also surprising but have turned some people away from this selection. Some individuals prefer to enjoy more ice cream than mix-ins. If you love chocolate, like having more chocolate added to chocolate with Almonds, Marshmallow's, brownies, and malt balls you will be in heaven. While the mix-ins of each are sparing, the fudge swirl sticks out among the crowd.

I noticed a new brand a month or so ago while shopping at Whole Foods. I finally pulled the trigger on one of their pints at another grocery store during a weak period lol

Ninette's is a Canadian brand from Montreal, Quebec. There gingerbread crunch has no description on the pint besides "it contains real gingerbread pieces". You get several in every spoonful, amix-in junky dream. Although it was quite pricey I was a bit skeptical because it is lower calorie than most premium offerings (130x4).

My first spoonful I can see why the lower calorie count...the base is a tad grainy and not as creamy or sweet as some other pints I've had. However, the gingerbread pieces are plentiful and complement the base perfectly. I really enjoyed this pint and for 520 calories I'm totally getting this again. It would be a slightly higher rating if the base was a bit creamier.

I may give their apple cinnamon a shot now. Maybe pass on the lemon basil lol

Rating: A-
booneman77. Highly recommend you look for this next visit to Canada.

I avoid Whole Foods, but this sounds good enough to explore and see if they might carry it in US stores too.

I doubt you will find in the US since the company is so small but you never know...

Check out Steve's @ Whole foods
Coolhaus as well

Very well worth the scoops.

They carry Steve's and Coolhaus at the local grocery store here, but I was interested in the Ninette's because of the gingerbread. Although Steve's Sweet Corn and Blackberry Preserves sounds interesting.

I think I got at least half a dozen soft gingerbread cookies in there and despite being only 520 calories it killed some 1000+ calorie pints I have had.

Their website shows it is available in Canada only...

wait till you see the pictures when i get a chance to upload them. no joke it was like HD PB Pie and the amount of Peanut butter in there. Or greaters chocolate chips amped in a whoppie pie. UNREAL

I think I will pass then... But I wonder where all the fat & cals are coming from if there aren't that much pecans.

all of HD flavors have a very high kcal count, they use a high % of buttermilk in their bases. Most of their pints are 260-300 kcals per serving. even with minimal mix-ins.

Yeah so true.
I mean i get them free now but i dont even bother just based on the macros vs. reward lol so its too bad.

Why do they have the choc sea salt pretzels twice ha?

New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Coffee & Chicory

If you enjoy coffee-flavored ice cream, and have purchase Café au Lait & Beignets before this is similar but without mix-ins. The small twist of a bittersweet caramel taste adds a nice compliment to a lower caloric option on the New Orleans line. While this is a very basic offering it was good, but does not meet up to the standards of the other pints NO Ice Cream Company has to offer

Grade: C+

Next in th Breyers blasts! Lineup was Samoas (Girl Scout cookies). This was far and away the least favorite of the ones I've tried. Occasional mix ins (albeit decent size chunks of Samoa cookies when I did get them), and an artificial coconut flavor were the lowlights. Overall it wasn't terrible, or even bad, but not worth a buy again.

Thats what happens when you buy that low grade stuff :)
Milk & Cookies FTW for a basic cookie flavor
Graeters CNC is GOAT
Cookie Thearpy from GF is pretty decent
Midnight COokies and Cream from HD is solid for a HD offering.

No mention of Chocolate Shoppe Ultimate Oreo?!?! I am disappoint bro...

The base was super creamy and soft & chewy cookie pieces :)

In terms of store brands, up here in Canada, the Presidents Choice (PC) Loads Of series is legit! Their Butter Tart was one of my all time favourites SRS. Although I haven't tried them yet I figure it is similar to the Wegmans premium series pints (rare store brand winner lol)

He can order off ICS. If I lived in the US I would probably order off them few times a year min lol.

Graeters has Elena Blueberry available now ... is it worth the $10 + shipping?

i prefer it over GF Blueberry Maine, and its close to jeni's Brambleberry for a blueberry offering. its a solid scoop.

Yeah I know, but I have never had it lol. Read your review and it seems solid but just wondering if it is good enough to justify an expensive direct order. The chocolate coconut Almond chip sounds good too..

I am thinking another GF order to get Almond Butter would make more sense lol.

I am scooping that tonight, and Sriracha Peanut soon. Both rated A"s by Nick from OSS and Powered by Ice Cream
Can't wait.

Never had it. They were OOS when i went to visit the fresh market in Columbus.
I heard Talenti is better, but again Talenti did not crack my top 3. So i am not going to really rave over it until i do try it which may be never. Not going to place an order for 1 pint.

Ill check CBUS when i go next month (Oct 1st-4th) for Austin's Wedding. (My trainer)

The amount of flavors the store brands often offer is amazing tho. I've gotta get a pic of the one Kroger peanutbutter crunch that I have. It may be a top 5 period. Mix ins and swirls galore.
GNO I totally agree on the pc's. Tons of good looking flavors and heavy mix ins. And soooo cheap

So many pumpkin pie brands this year... We're gonna have to divide and conquer to find the new ones that are good

The PC "loads of" tubs are worth the grab. I forget which one has a tornado themed title but it's great too

Might stop in Metro later

The butter tart blew my mind... Loved it!
A top 5 for me for sure!

My list:

1. Handels
2. Jeni's
3. Coldstone
4. Talenti
5. Turkey Hill
6. Ben & Jerry's
7. Dairy Queen
8. Graeters

I have tried zero :(

But I have 3 I will be trying over the next couple weeks...
- PC pumpkin pie (CDN store brand)
- Gelato Fresco Pumpkin (CDN)
- Talenti Pumpkin
I might also grab GF and whatever I can find in Buffalo lol

The talenti has a good base, but again not much mix-ins. Their company either loads them (SSC, Choc PB Cup) or not much
Let me know what you think. You have to try coldstone if you come to the states. Worth a scoop
