The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

You have never had Sponge Candy that is why. Once you do you will see why i got it.

I had Lake Effect Sponge Candy ice cream, it was just okay. I posted a review on page 10 (copied below)

Lake Effect Sponge Candy
A sponge candy flavoured ice cream with huge chunks of authentic platter's milk chocolate sponge candy pieces.

Upon opening the pint I see no mix-ins, but after digging the spoon I'm reassured they are there. My first spoon of ice cream with a piece of chocolate sponge candy is great. However, as I work my way down the pint I discover most of the pieces are just chocolate with little to no sponge candy. At first I'm disappointed, but really I don't absolutely love sponge candy. I mean it's good, but I wouldn't buy it on its own. Similar to my other Lake Effect experience with Paula's donuts, the unique base is the standout here. The milk chocolate pieces are tasty but I could use much more.
Final Rating: C+

Well if you love sponge candy like you stated this will be FULL of sponge candy, not a hit or miss sponge candy. Its literally 50% ice cream 50% sponge candy.

I find sponge candy better outside of ice cream, when is freezes the sponge and chocolate just get way too hard, at room temp melts in your mouth, amazing

The Sponge candy in the romolo is not hard, its still melt in your mouth :)

Is that based on the vendor's description of it or did you open it already?

I have found very hard mix-ins do not work all that well in ice cream. I love brands that have softer chocolate chunks like Graeter's , plus they're are massive lol.

Ah man, I have to look into the dates for that show next year. I am not the type of person to go on vacation and sit on the beach for a week, would rather hit up a festival or do something cool. I've done NYC Thanksgiving parade, Mardi Gras in NO in the past, plus I love NY!

I got really excited when he mentioned Canada and then this...

Coming off what I thought was going to be the worst bite of the show, we ended up in the Canadian section some how. This brand called Essence was showcasing their ice cream or gelato, not too sure which one. It really doesn't matter because we tried three flavors and each one was worst than the last. And this is why Canada gets blamed for everything.

Fuk, never had a boner go down so fast lol. The Solution you recently picked up the Steve's cookie butter, no? Review coming soon?

The pint has a rich chocolate base that kills BnJ chocolate. The cake pieces are soft & chewy Although there was a good amount I could do with more. The fudge swirl is pretty sparse though, only saw it 1/4 into the pint. When you get a spoonful with a cake piece and the swirl it's amazing. If the fudge swirl was more prevalent and a touch more cake pieces maybe an A.

Overall as a coffee fan I enjoy the Ben & Jerry base. Coffee Coffee buzz buzz was a good pint, and I wish Ben & Jerry would utilize the coffee base more often in their lineup. The medium based coffee flavor was strong and provided a nice aftertaste from first bite to last. the Fudge Chunks were massive in size, and were not shy of the thickness or texture in each bite. The brownie batter swirl on the other hand I had higher hopes for in thickness and flavor. While this is a step up from Coffee Coffee buzz buzz with the density of the mix-ins (especially the fudge chunks), the swirl could be upgraded to make this a better offering.

Comes with a massive plate of poutine (over a 1lb for sure) and a 1L coke too ha.
I had the brilliant idea to cut up the middle (ie.3rd) burger patty and toss on the poutine - Cheeseburger poutine = Orgasmic!
mkretz they never added you onto their FB page for finishing yet there are a bunch of pics of people who lost the breakfast & burger challenge in the past couple months, WTF!!!
Come back and do the breakfast challenge :)

starts in 20 minutes!

Show last night was pretty cool
A place in Indiana makes any flavor you want on the spot and then freezes the ice cream with liquid nitrogen in seconds

One girl got a cotton candy with PB cups and cookie dough

Mint chocate PB cookie dough
Death by chocolate

Other features were an Oreo pie made in Hawaii

Big gay ice cream in NY (I think) which had incredible unique features to cones

California had this place where they specialized in floats

Etc etc

I posted a place like that (the liquid nitrogen) from when I was in LA earlier this year. It was amazing. I think it was called "Creamistry" or something. It was literall the creamiest ice cream I've ever had. and the mix ins were amzing becuase they add them last second so crucnhy stuff like cereal (even suff that gets soggy fast) was still crisp.
