The Sopranos

The Sopranos was my favorite TV series of all times. In fact my Sunday nights haven't ever been the same since the series ended. I am very critical of mob movies/shows, for undisclosed reasons, and collectively I felt that The Sopranos did a very good portrayal of La Cosa Nostra life. My biggest peeve about the show is that James Gandolfini (Anthony Soprano), decided to stop the role because he "felt" typecasted in Hollywood. Wake the FU*K up Jimmy Boy. You are Tony Soprano, you mastered that role. People love you as Tony Soprano, not so much as the gay bounty hunter, or other meaningless roles you've played since.

What were some people's favorite moments in the show, and who were your favorite characters?

The episode in season 6 where anthony jr puts the bag on his head and jumps in the pool was one of the few moments in a tv series for me ever that I honest to god did not know whether he was going to actually kill himself or not. Neither way would have suprised me. And that's saying something when you are talking about a television series. I mean how many situations have you watched on a tv show where it's pretty much "well...obviously everything is gonna work out fine otherwise there wouldn't be an episode next week, lol"

That and when tony kills christopher in the car crash. DID NOT see that **** coming either. With Comfortably Numb playing in the background, that's prolly my most memorable scene ever.

Oh wait, it was pretty chilling when sil takes adrianna out and ends that whole problem in the woods.

Suffice to say the sopranos is also one of my favorite tv shows of all time as well. I'm not sure any show has really since matched the quality level of the sopranos.

Those were all great scenes. I wasn't a fan of Anthony Junior, the actor himself. His head got way too inflated and he really thought he was a tough little kid. He was arrested numerous times off the set. Plus he was just a geeky fat little loser.

Now Meadow on the other hand. Sometimes I feel guilty about her being in my spank bank when I see some of the first few seasons. She grew up to be damn sexy as hell.

Another scene for me was when Pauly Walnuts mother's landscaping company lost business from a new competor, one that worked for a different family. Paulie rolled up on them when they were working and after getting an attitude from one of the guys, turned and started walking away. He walked about a foot and picked up a shovel and bashed one of them with it. Then he pulled the guide rope and the other landscaper fell out of the tree. Funny as hell. Then he takes thier lawnmower and throws it in the back of his Caddy.

The first 4 seasons were incredible, the last 2 were way more mellow until the final mob war. I was getting tired of episodes purely dedicated to Carmella Soprano and her whining.

I too wish it went forever. But Gandolfini ruined that.

Man--that's a tough one to think about off the top of my head right now,but one that stands out was "funhouse" the very last episode of season 2 where they whack Pu$$y. Now ya got me thinking about mob-flicks..lol. As i'm typing,"A Bronx Tale"-- is on Spike,remember that one??

Yeah I was watching that one but i fell asleep..Good Fellas is pretty good also, I love the scene where jimmy asked do you think so and so tells his wife everything, then everything stops and henry narrates saying "that's when i knew he was gonna get whacked", "That's how quick it happens".... Just a simple doubt about anyone for a seconed and they're dead.. gotta love it.

Never caught it the first time around since I don't have HBO or whatever it was on, but I did while it was on AMC - watched it religiously! For a single episode, "The Pine Barrens" sticks out in my head - good interaction in that episode, IMO. The capping of Adriana was also pretty epic. I remember there being quite a few "oh shyt" moments, and then the last 2 seasons drug out just a tad too much for my liking - not enough mob, too much "Anthony Jr" crap and the like. To this day, I still don't know if I liked the ending or not...but I do smile every time I hear "Don't Stop..." from Journey. :cheers:

After it ended, I did find another "mob" show that was even more to my liking...Sons of Anarchy. FTW!!! :head:

The ending was another "deep into the mind" moment. People speculated that Tony was killed, but he wasn't . You can't cap a made guy, especially an underboss. My interpretation of the ending was that no matter how great your life may seem, sitting with your family at a diner, when you live like a mobster your mind is always running scared and you never know what is around the corner. The ending was a moment of self inflicted paranoia, which to those in that life is something that they know about ahead of time. The musical touch was great though. So I hated it at first but now I give the ending props.
