All depends on if you are happy with where you are at. It's really that simple. Where do you want to go and how are you going to get there?

Im happy with the progress i've made but i still feel like i look "soft" i want that hard defined look. Could you see the pics??

I could see them fine. There is nothing wrong with being pleased with the progress you have made, but you obviously want more. Stay hungry and do not settle for less than your goal!~

You need more muscle IMO unless you want to look emaciated. You can cut to get more definition, but I think you would look way too skinny, unless that's what you're going for.

What is your weight and bf%, and what is your goal?

I'd go for a lean bulk, keeping carbs on the low end and high protein. Shoot for ~500 cal above maintenance, and kill it in the gym. You need a good muscle base to look "defined" by most folks expectations.

Once you have more muscle, you can do a slow cut to strip off the fat and keep the muscle.

I'm at ~198lbs and ~7%bf, and I'm still not as "defined" as I would like to be (i.e. contest ready).

Thanks bro,

I feel like i need more muscle too but now im afraid of putting more fat on. ahh i feel like im getting too skinny! I think ima put on ten pounds, thanks for the honest response

Don't worry too much about putting on fat. If you do a lean bulk (250-500 calories over maintenance), and keep your diet pretty clean (very limited sugary, starchy and fatty foods and little alcohol) you should put on muscle with little fat.

As you put on muscle, you'll really fill out and have a good base so you won't get "too skinny." Honestly, looking bigger with the muscle is going to be more attractive to most women than being small and skinny. As a bonus, the muscle will boost metabolism so it'll be easier to keep fat off.

Best of luck, let us know if you have any questions.

Milas,

I took your advice on the lean bulk, great idea!! ive been gaining for about three weeks and i look like a new man. i guess you never realize how skinny youre getting if youre obsessed with getting cut but unknowingly burning off muscle. Lean bulking has made me lose fat and gain.

That's fantastic! Keep it up, and as you gain you'll have to keep increasing calories a little bit at a time. Try adding a little extra lean meat or eggs for the extra calories. Something like Invalid Link Removed is a great resource for all of that.

Well done, and I'm glad you're making progress. Don't let up, and just keep working hard and eating right!
