The New Product Release Thread

They have the DOTA 2 championships near my place here in Seattle. Never even heard of DOTA prior to moving here. The amount of people that show up to watch a video game final of something I've never even heard of was shocking. Wouldn't be surprised if this BPI gamer pre sells really well if they market it in the right channels. Market isn't anywhere near as saturated, it could end up being a huge money maker.
At first perhaps, but as soon as they try a proper nootropic formula, maybe they won't want to go back. If you want to talk gaming, it's like going from PS1 to PS4 graphics. That formula is pretty comparable to an energy drink, now compare a canned energy drink to your favorite pre-workout; there's no comparison in terms of effectiveness.

lol that's a pretty bad nootropic formula. Straight up CDP and caffeine is better than that.
The crazy thing is it wouldn't even be an expensive formula to dose at least halfway decently. I think ALCAR would have made more sense in this context, taurine and l-tyrosine aren't expensive to dose properly, neither is ALCAR, caffeine is dirt cheap, and there's not going to be an effective dose of CDP-Choline there (label dressing), but they could have just went with choline bitartrate if price is that much of an issue. Their cost for that must be INSANELY low.

Flavouring + manufacturing cost more than the raws, lewl

I played in the CAL League for Dota and Counter Strike when i grew up (Cyber Athlete Amateur League) and played in some of those online events . Those dudes chug monsters and other energy drinks like it there job because they game upward to 8-10 hours per day.

The sad fact is they have no idea what is in the product, as long as it tastes good they would buy it. Kind of like how Optimum gets away with Amino Energy.. Lets make a low dose amino product and pixie dust 50mg of caffeine and invest the bulk in flavoring (which is pennies) and sell it.. Guess what it struck gold becuase people are brand loyal. Even though they have no idea the formula is super weak and low dosed they buy it.

Sad but true. Ask the average consumer of their supplements and products and what they are truly getting, or how much of X or Y They should get and they are clueless. They really only care about taste 95% of the time.

In before gaming on Modafinil. I'm sure it's a thing already, and probably only going to gain popularity.

Just look at how dominant monster is for UFC Fighting, For metal bands or people who perform at concerts. They slam those things like water to help stay awake, perform etc.... People who market to those crowds will make a fortune.. Just make sure it tastes good regardless of how pixie dusted it is..

Hell it may cost BPI like 7$ to make that formula, if not less and they are going to retail it at 31.99$.
BOGO away.

There is a market there I think. BPI makes poop products, but this could be genius initially. Look at the whole energy drink craze. Red Bull by far has the worst profile of the major brands, but it was 1st. Being first to something is sometimes better than being the best, financially speaking. Especially when dealing with an uneducated general population

Quest Nutrition Mocha Chocolate Chip Protein Bar Review

Taste

Mocha Chocolate Chip

If you have tried double chocolate chunk from quest, imagine eating that bar dunked in coffee. From opening the wrapper the aroma of coffee is very strong. The first bite was nothing short of heaven for those who are love coffee or mocha flavored products. The amount of chocolate chips I got in my bar was pretty typical. You get a good 3-4 large chunks and several smaller pieces throughout the bar. Granted some bars I have had have been 50% chocolate chips and 50% protein bar. Overall I would rank this up towards the top, and easily into my top 5 flavors. If you are not a huge coffee fan this may not be a top priority to run out and try and get (since it is new to quest labs). Personally I do not go a day without coffee, get me a coffee protein bar and I am sold. Not to mention the flavoring is on point. Think about a New Orleans light roasted cold brew flavored double chocolate chunk bar. That is exactly what this new flavor tastes like.

Texture

Out of the wrapper you can notice the bar has the usual quest bar texture with the added flakiness from the chocolate chips included inside and outside of the bar. Since quest moved back to the OG Formulation the bar is much softer then the previous corn syrup model. Not to mention these digest much easier and are not hard as rocks.

Formula

6g Fat
24g Carbs
20g Protein
14g Fiber

Quest has recently went back to the old formula which settles much easier and produces a softer bar. Not only has this pleased a large portion of the quest community, but the general supplement consumer as a whole. It makes them digest easier (for myself) and many others. This is also an all-natural bar from Quest Nutrition which may appeal to a larger portion of fans out there.

Cost

Quest retails for about 24$ making it right around 2$ a bar. If you were to buy a single bar off the main quest website it would be around 2.39$ per bar. Buying in bulk saves you around 40 cents a bar, but all in all if on sale its pretty cost effective for 12 bars for around 20$. When you factor in flavor, and factor in good calories for less than 200 calories a bar it's a pretty nice convenient investment.

Quest Rankings

1. Blueberry Muffin
2. Cookies & Cream
3. Mocha Chocolate Chip
4. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
5. Apple Pie
6. Double Chocolate Chunk
7. Chocolate Brownie
8. S’mores
9. Chocolate PB
10. Cinnamon Roll

Umm... Wasn't the old (original) formula based on oligosaccharides not corn fiber? What is the "old formula" you are mentioning?

There have been 3 iterations. The OG oligosaccharide bars, a terrible corn fiber base one that made 115 lb girls cri, and the latest "revised" one...which did "improve" enough for instagram fiends to become moist.

Making something for a specific niche only works if you spend a ton of marketing behind it. Otherwise it fails. Long history of this in the industry.

There are several companies making "Gamer" based energy powders specifically like

Cannibal & Ferox's Pwnd Gamerz Aggro
Gaming Fuel
G-Fuel by Gamma

And prob others

My question is how good is the market for those products? and is this something gamers look into or are utilizing?

You forgot Focus XT by SNS. ;)

How about if your entire company is essentially a marketing department?

That could be said about most industries anymore period where many US companies are not producing anything at all; and are Marketing/PR firms selling goods that are produced by 3rd party outsourcing firms who contract the work out of various sweat shops and slave labor camps starting with Nike like 30-40 years ago as the new way to do business and is essentially the entire Computer, Clothing, Supplement, Auto etc etc way of business at this point its rare for it to not be.

Microsoft for example has been outsourcing all of its jobs for while and if you look at its main building there was a lawsuit a bit back when they themselves did the contracting and the lawsuit was over their employees which they themselves didn't count as Microsoft employees got half the pay no benefits like doing the same exact work as other Microsoft employees; They were all fired and M$ hired another company to do that sub contracting re-hiring all of those employees at half the pay yet again.

Red bull is not produced by "Redbull" and is just a marketing company period the guy found a drink marketed it to the US under that company but is not in any way involved in producing anything outside of marketing which is exactly what they are a PR firm.

I am sure you know this just pointing it out - Will Brink on how supplement companies operate while back a short video explained it in detail all largely marketing/pr firms with no production at all and many without even any formulators.

We sponsor an e-team.

SnsGamers

Ahhh I was not aware :)

That's pretty cool and thanks for the heads up

I had really hoped it would be using a lot more of the lionsmane extract similar to the studies done on it :|

It's only in it for the marketing, you can add stims and people are going to think they notice the other ingredients. The whole surge in "nootropic" supplements is banking off placebo big time.

Most of the new products like that are garbage

ANS Rave cripples this...one nootropic I'm dying to try
Rave appears to have a better profile than XP, but it's still sub-par as a nootropic IMO; it's more of a stim-bomb than anything really.

There are a few good options out there, and I'm sure there will be more. :)

Is bb.com that bad? I have heard things, but I don't use that forum or web site.....

Well I didn't know if they targeted gamers with that or not I didn't want to assume

I like Focus XT a good bit :)

Yes sir. We actually sponsor a few even iirc. Fxt is a very versatile product ;)

AntM Reviews Muscletech Crunch CPB Bar

Texture/consistency

Almost perfect. If you have read my protein bar reviews before, you know this is a very important area of mine and I am critical of bars not having or lacking texture. Although this bar does not give you the candy bar type crunch, it gives you a lot more than most other protein bars. If you look at the picture, you can see a thin layer under the outside coating. This was a wafer type layer. It gave the bar some crunch along with the nuts under the coating. I wish the wafer layer was a little thicker, but overall, it did deliver some crunch.

Consistency was near perfect as well. The thick outside coating made the bar a touch chewy, but nothing terrible. I would actually make that thinner while increasing the thickness of the wafer layer.

Taste

This was chocolate peanut butter. If you love peanut butter, you will love this. As soon as I opened the wrapper, I was hit with a peanut butter scent. It was like opening a brand new jar. I am not the biggest chocolate fan, unless it is paired with peanut butter or another flavor I enjoy. Typically, CPB bars are very heavy on the chocolate and lack PB. However, this was little to no chocolate taste. For me, I was completely happy with this. Even though the middle of the bar looks like it is chocolate dominant, that is not the case.

Profile

Very good. First, the macros are pretty much on point with other bars. I do like they these are not heavy in fiber. I eat a lot of whole foods and often find myself getting too much fiber when I eat most protein bars that are out there. Here is the macro break down for this flavor:

Cals - 240
Fat - 7 grams
Carbs - 24 grams
Fiber - 5 grams
Protein - 22 grams

If I have to be critical of the profile, it would be of this. There is soy protein isolate. However, it is the last protein source listed. Personally, this does not bother me because one, a little soy won't kill anyone, two, it is not the main protein source and three, I do not eat protein bars daily. Just worth nothing.

Price

I cannot rate this since they are not sold anywhere, but the MT site and obviously, that will be a little more costly than purchasing from a retailer. The price point for most protein bars are $2/bar. I would not mind paying a little more for these. If they are $2.50/bar, I think that would be fair.

Bottom Line

The flavoring was perfect in my opinion. I would not change it. I think there needs to be a solely PB based bar and that is what this tastes like. I know chocolate is in the name, so it can be a little misleading. If you do not mind a dominant PB flavor, you need to get this. I would probably call this flavor PB Supreme or something similar. The texture is solid, I would rate these as having the second best texture. There could be a little more crunch, but these have a lot more than the majority of the bars out there. All in all, I am extremely pleased with these. I would highly suggest trying these and I cannot wait to get my hands on some other flavors! 9.5/10
