Just saw today that Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, and Origin are touring this summer. Going to see Mastodon, Gojira, and Kvelertak this Monday.

Check out Cattle Decapitation for some awesome deathgrind. Necrophagia is also worth mentioning.

Get a subscription to Decibel. So many great bands and albums I've been turned on to since I started reading that I otherwise wouldn't have known about.

...And not that they're death metal, but I finally had the pleasure of seeing Eyehategod this last Thursday. Absolutely incredible live.

I do enjoy their second album. Also speaking of technical death metal, Gorguts.

Of course. The guts. Tip-the-hat.

Just like Meshuggah will always get credit for every palm mute riff every djent band will utter for all time... Gorguts gets the hat tip from the techie proggie death metalheads

Agreed. Such an influential band, yet still, to my ears, on the outside.

Since I just registered to this forum and found this thread about metal I think I came to the right place but I just have to educate some of You about deathmetal and blackmetal! ;)

Rimfrost is NOT Blackmetal, this is blackmetal: Mayhem Invalid Link Removed

And to all the new crappy deathcore I would like to say, f***ing die! This is deathmetal: Hate Invalid Link Removed

But then we have other black bands like: Zwartplaag, old records of Immortal and Darkthrone, Dark Funeral.

And death bands like: Severe Torture, Dying Fetus and Dissection.

And not to forget the death/trash band The Crown.

But I think I'm going to like it here :)

You don't need you to educate anyone here on the board including myself on any type of metal music. Rimfrost is indeed black metal, there featured in the documentary called Black Metal Satanica so is Vreid, Dark Funeral, Ondskapt Shining and so forth.

BTW welcome to AM.com, only one post in and you already sound sorta like a troll so good to go.

While we're on the subject, the new Old Wainds album is turning my subjective summer experience grim and frostbitten.

Really digging the pacing of that, as well as the vocals. Gonna have to listen with headphones to get a feel for the production, but the ride sliced nicely through the mix, the kicks didn't sound overly triggered, and the guitars seemed to have some rawness to them.

So the other day I bought the new Mayhem, Misery Index, Trap Them, Black Anvil, Wretched, and Tombs. Ordered new Septicflesh which drops tomorrow I believe.

Awaiting the new Belphegor album

They're still banging around?

Indeed I am a troll :D But I just meant that Rimfrost sound a little bit weak :D

The new Sinister album Invalid Link Removed on the other hand does not sound weak! Most brutal **** they've done in a long time.

And I have to thank Piston Honda for mentioning Wretched, they were ok.

Never said you where a bonafide troll, anyway water under the bridge dude. I do have to agree with you about rimfrost, there not exactly the raw sound that you would expect with what true black metal is supposed to sound like which I can't stand....Sinister is sick as **** !!!

Awesome thread!

Anyone like Old Man's Child? In Defiance Of Existence and Vermin are incredible in my opinion. Also a huge fan of Septicflesh's The Great Mass and Communion.

I'm not a fan, I can't take anything like old mans child serious.... You probably know of Galders ( old mans child other band ) Dimmu hamburger and they gotta
be one of the lamest metal bands now and pretty much all black metal is laughable at best....thats my opinion...bands like Dissection which I love I consider death metal even though the purists would call me out for that.

I love good old death metal, Immolation, Malevolent Creation, Suffocation, Decapitated ( old stuff ) Nile, Cannibal Corpse.....the list could go on.

So whats the progression from Death Metal? I think I first dug my teeth into Benediction's "Vision in the Shroud" when I was a kid in Munich, from there some bands here and there but started leaning towards the Swedish/Norwegian styles. And by progression I meant looking into cross genres that combined elements of death/black/core/math/florida/swedish had to offer. Lets talk about some good growlers out there. Two dudes that I think rule the range from low to high pitched squeel (and then some) would be Christian Alvestam and Robert Karlsson. Yeah they mix in melodic and I know its off topic but give the vinyls a spin if you ever get a chance. Sure outside the Death bounds but have elements. Uneven Structure is a new band that hs me hooked, playing into the polyrythmic math-djent. And before you go all ape **** on your keyboard because I said djent, just understand I'm referring to a undefined style math-prog-mash patato of music that Messhuga and Sikth started.
Fur realz yo.

The most recent Morgoth album, "Ungod," is chock-full of chunky, straight up death metal. Melodic in an Amon Amarth way. The vocalist reminds me of Jon Tardy from Obituary, but with more gurgle and rasp. Thick production. I recommend it.

Piston Honda - I really dug that, enough to buy it. That's a good label. Ilsa is on there now with a crushing cover of "The IVth Crusade." Worth checking out.

That ILSA album sounds killer!

Hard to believe Noisem is barely out of high school. Their future is very bright

Check out this progressive death metal band... 7 Horns 7 Eyes.

I think it's along the lines of what you're looking for (progressive/death/djent/etc). Incredible vocalist as well.

Been on a bit of a Tech Death kick lately. These guys have become the savior of non-traditional death metal for me, since Opeth decided to start making ****ty hippie music a few years back. For ****'s sake, there's a bass solo, on a fretless bass.

Just joined the forum, so I can't post a link, apparently. YouTube search Beyond Creation Omnipresent Perception

Welcome, nice first post and thread bump. As a Death Metal fan myself I had no idea this thread even existed!! Beyond Creation is good stuff. If you like them I'm sure you would like Archspire if you don't already know of them. More Canadian goodness.
