dude, have you been to the border lately...you can't be serious...the border states are being over ran and i've heard that biden admin is flying and busing untested illegals all over the US...In defense, you put enough anything in the air and eventually the immune system will be over ran. Polio, smallpox, measles etc are vaccinated against at birth. Essentially no choice. So EVERYONE is 100% vaccinated against it. It never has a chance to get going. 30+% of unvaccinated people is still a lot (im one of them).
To further state the point, any one who comes into this country, or any time someone catches or has smallpox, measles, polio etc, they are immediately isolated. If the vaccines were 100% effective, I would think there wouldnt be a need to do that.
where were you when all the anti-trumpers were all over social media saying trump has 500,000 lifes and blood on his hands...where ARE all those people yelling that biden has blood on his hands-- nearly as many people have died since biden has been president as died when trump was president, and biden had the vaccines that trump didn't have...My life doesn't revolve around who the President is. It could be Trump, Biden, Hillary, Reagan, Roosevelt, Lincoln, Putin, Xi, Merkel, Macron, Trudeau, Boris Johnson, Joe Rogan or you or me. It would've all unfolded almost exactly the same way it has. You've got to stop thinking about this as a political thing.
dude, have you been to the border lately...you can't be serious...the border states are being over ran and i've heard that biden admin is flying and busing untested illegals all over the US...
imagine if trump would have done this-joy reid's hair would be on fire, lol.my local airport is getting the midnight flights
i didn't say i felt sorry for trump being unfairly blamed...but i expect biden to be equally blamed--where is the blame pointed at biden....where were you when trump was being unfairly blamed, you only showed up to defend politicians after trump got defeated because of all of the unfairness directed at him because of covid... lets face it covid was the reason biden won and biden promised to defeat and SQUASH covid by july 4th of last year-why is he being called out for this--where is the biden has blood on his hands from media? It's just a game. And these politicians know what they're getting into. Don't feel sorry for them if they get unfairly blamed for something. They chose to get in that line of work. And it's not like Trump didn't say McCain is only a hero because he was captured or Ted Cruze's father helped Lee Harvey Oswald assassinate JFK or the whole "lock her up" thing with Hillary or that Obama wasn't born in the US. If they couldn't stand the heat they wouldn't be in the kitchen. Don't let it affect your day to day life.
Everyone was crossing their fingers and hoping it wouldn't mutate, at least not enough to reduce the effectiveness of the vaccines. And it did. Hey, I'm not happy about it either. It looks like I have the Omicron covid now, and this is after getting the original covid last year and 3 Pfizer shots. But at least it's very mild, just a sore throat that's now gone and fairly mild stuffy/runny nose with clear and yellow mucous. I'm not coughing, no trouble breathing, and still able to work out etc and I don't know if that would be case if I wasn't vaccinated.
And, the good ole Merck pill is going to kill covid in people by causing it to mutate so much it doesn't function in them anymore. Sounds like a great idea, huh? But the NIH, Pfizer and Moderna is going to have to keep adapting their vaccine to keep up with the mutations.
dude---have you actually listened to biden talk for more than 2 minutes---they won't be able to cover-up his mental illness much longer-he will be gone before the end of the year...Well it's not an election year for Biden yet. But come 2024, if covid is still this bad you're gonna have the right screaming bloody murder about it. And Biden's approval rating is in the dumps. The polls out there all the the people disapprove of his pandemic leadership. He's going to lose a lot of congressional support in the midterms and be a lame duck after that. And I'm sure all throughout the globe we will have Presidents and Prime Ministers unfairly losing their jobs in the next few years.
Invalid Link RemovedWell I looked it up on the CDC website. Physicians are required to report whenever someone dies and the vaccine may have been a factor. Same goes for medical devices that fail, etc. They go back and try to determine why, whether it was a bad batch or allergies or whatever. They take it pretty seriously. And so far in the US there's been 10,688 reports of death among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine. A lot more than I would of thought.
But they also say 496 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through December 20, 2021, so the mortality rate is 0.0022% or 2.2 per 100,000. And with the US having had 830,000 people dead from covid now and a clear immunity benefit from the vaccine it only makes sense to get the shot... especially a medical worker like me, or an older person or someone with health issues, or a quarterback with millions of fans who gets paid millions and works in stadiums with a bunch of huddled guys. I think most of the issues have been thrombosis from the Johnson and Johnson shot and that's been scrutinized a lot.

Yes, j and j is built off of decades old technology. I have friends that work for both pfizer and moderna here in Massachusetts, I believe the moderna has 100 micro units of drug vs 50 micro units for pfizer and j and j.Well you also have to keep in mind adverse events are pretty rare too. I've talked to nurses giving vaccines all day at a vaccination clinic and they'll go months without seeing a severe reaction. But since J and J works in a different way it's not a bad idea to switch it up. The main difference with Moderna is it uses a higher dose of mRNA. And if these vaccines have long term effects that haven't shown up after a year and hundreds of millions of people getting it, I figure I'll be in the same boat as about 200 million other people in the US.
lol...the media....lets talk about network media the so called mainstream media....if you believe they are unbiased you should never say another thing about politics EVER....you might know medicine but you are COMPLETELY wrong if you believe the media is unbiased---very few news organisations give even close to a conservative viewpoint-fox has nearly as many liberals as conservatives these days, yet is considered a right wing news organization....to me abc, nbc, cbs and particularly pbs are all extreme left wing networks who bend over backwards to defend biden and democrats-and then we have facebook twitter and yahoo-about as pro biden, democrat as you can get. When I was a kid you had a point. Overall the media had liberal tendencies but they also really believed in giving out unbiased information. Nowadays you get to pick your news... right wing, left wing, nut wing. Some outlets will trash him and some will praise him. But the country is about 30% republican, 30% democrat and 40% independant. So I'm in the largest group.
And I was telling people all along during the election year that I'm battling it on the front lines and it doesn't matter who the President is. The only thing he can do is help us get our equipment, put resources toward a vaccine, and provide financial relief for those affected. The only thing that flattens the curve is shutdowns, and the President doesn't even do that it's the governors - rightfully so. The mask thing is debateable.
But people get caught up in the fervor and propaganda and why? Well it's like being a fan of a sports team, you tend to see your team with rose colored glasses. And it's not really about covid it's about immigration, women's rights, guns and taxes, and black lives matters... and most of all, power.
BIDEN mandates...tbh if i were to get a vaccine--which i will NOT-it would be J$J.Yes, j and j is built off of decades old technology. I have friends that work for both pfizer and moderna here in Massachusetts, I believe the moderna has 100 micro units of drug vs 50 micro units for pfizer and j and j.
I'm not antivax but if it wasn't for my job mandating it, I would have never got the vaccine.
My sister in law was fired because she wouldn't get the jab and my niece resigned from her senior rn post as well.
My niece was a "hero" last year when she volunteered to work the covid ward but had her job threatened when they mandated vaccines here in Boston. So she did the ultimate and resigned. She opened a spa and is doing pretty well for herself atm.
Yeah I could have. I don't know why you have to point that out, like this is a debate here and only one side of the argument should be given. I pretty much said as much in my last post. But it's also a fact that the vaccine antibodies do help fight against omicron and all the variants. And I'm probably less sick because of it.
We're gonna need more evidence before you can say that. They're working on it. Until overwhelming evidence is provided and it stands up to scrutiny I'd prefer to take the advice of the FDA and European Medicines agency (people who've spent their entire adult lives studying and practicing medicine) over Joe Rogan and a couple doctors fired for going on right wing outlets and saying things that are clearly false.
That is sadly true. But these variants tend to have similar mutations just in different combination. And some immunity against the new variant will be better than nothing. The flu vaccine on average is about 40% effective, but it no doubt saves a lot of lives.
dude--you aren't getting it-it is the biased way the media covered covid while trump was president that biden is now president---if not for covid i truly believe trump would have won--it was the media who politicised covid even more than the democrats!!!No I'm saying they're pretty much all biased nowadays and if people want to hear the party in power is saving the country they go to one outlet and if they want to hear they're ruining the country they go to another. I don't like it either. I tend to go to Reuters and USA Today where I don't have to hear that biased crap as much. But can't let it bother you so much it interferes with your daily life.
The topic of how to treat covid should have zero to do with who the President is. I can assure you neither Trump or Biden has ever has stepped foot in a covid unit. I kinda doubt they've ever had a real conversation with someone who has. They've probably never had a microbiology class or pharmacology class. I can assure you the people who have don't give a damn what he thinks or does unless it's really stupid and then it's just funny.
As you well know the problem is much/most of it hasn't stood up to scrutiny. If there's a claim that an antiparasitic does anything for covid it's going to be heavily scrutinized. Papers are being retracted, they're finding falsified data and numbers that don't add up, columns copied and pasted, they can't provide additional data when requested... but, higher quality studies are being done and if it does work we will eventually know. Everyone wants to be published and everyone wants to be the one that found a cure for covid. Until that happens I'll stick with evidence based medicine and do what the other 200 million Americans (and Europe, Russia, and China) are doing. And I've witnessed the whole hydroxychloroquin debacle.
you need to get out from under that rock-every part of American life is now dictated by politics-even medicine!!!I can assure you the people on the front lines who actually studied and practiced medicine don't give a damn about media bias or politics as far how to treat patients. We look at the science and use best judgement. And often we end up being wrong. We thought high doses of vitamin e was good for you. It turned out it causes cancer. CPR used to be airway, breathing, chest compressions (ABC) and now it's CAB. But we use the best information we have to do the best we can.
Well, wait for the Cochrane reviews to come out. They're considered the gold standard of medicine, and they're pretty solid and unbiased. Here's what they last said about Ivermectin but it was from Sept and they were waiting for some more studies to be published to revise their opinion:

Here's an expert reactions to the Cochrane review on Ivermectin:

Dr Penny Ward, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, Visiting Professor in Pharmaceutical Medicine, Kings College London, said:
“This timely review by the Cochrane collaborative group confirms the lack of sufficient clinical evidence supporting the assertion of benefit from use of ivermectin for the treatment or prevention of COVID. The authors have provided an exhaustive summary of the available evidence, which demonstrates the sub optimal design and reporting of many studies, as well as a summary of ongoing work, which may be anticipated to define the utility of the agent more precisely. It should be noted that the initial screening in vitro data suggested antiviral effects for this agent require high concentrations of the agent in target tissues. However, doses used in trials to date were too low to achieve these concentrations, suggesting that doses considerably higher than those being used in the ongoing clinical trials may be needed. This might require alternative formulations to improve oral bioavailability or direct pulmonary administration via inhalation which might increase the potential for efficacy while reducing potential toxicity. Higher doses/systemic exposure will require additional safety evaluation, given the toxicity of the product to liver and kidney. In the meantime, clinicians should not be using ivermectin for the treatment or prevention of COVID in practice. In addition, clinicians responsible for the studies that are ongoing might perhaps consider early evaluation of outcomes for futility.”
Prof Stephen Evans, Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said:
“This is a good review from experienced reviewers. They are transparent about which studies are included and which are included. They apply sensible criteria for both of these.
“Their overall conclusion that any benefit to ivermectin in prevention or treatment was at best uncertain. There was no clear evidence of harm. Their conclusions are in contrast to some other reviews that were not done as carefully and which included trials of doubtful validity. Any benefit at any stage of the disease process from infection to prevention of death will require large carefully-conducted randomised trials. Such trials are under way now.
“This review confirms previously issued advice from WHO, EMA and FDA that ivermectin should only be used in the context of a randomised trial and should not be used for routine treatment or prevention of Covid-19.”
Dr Stephen Griffin, Associate Professor in the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, said:
“This Cochrane review supports the consensus that reported successes attributed to poorly designed RCTs or off-label use of Ivermectin, are both unfounded and unreliable. Recent concerning revelations around some of the most highly cited Ivermectin studies add to this claim, and undermine meta-analyses upon which they are based. Whilst the outcome of the Solidarity trial should be awaited to confirm, it seems highly unlikely that this drug can, or should be repurposed to treat SARS-CoV2 infection. Continuing its off-label use should therefore be considered unacceptable at the present time.”
You can't debunk it. If it's debunked they have to retract it. Sometimes they do. You can disagree with it. But like I said Cochrane Review considered the highest standard.
how many boosters before covid lets you get laid @thanosnap ?
be curious to know what people in the healthcare business/industry think about having a mentally ill man as president?Oh yeah we have heated political discussions at work all the time. But politics have absolutely no impact on how we treat patients. And lately we've been to busy to talk politics anyway. I'm only on this message board because I'm sick sidelined at the moment.
Lol well I'll take them all and a tetanus shot and even some hydroxychloroquine if it gets me laid
It didn't used to be like that. At one point it was like 4 different girls in a week.

I guess what I meant to say is if their data or rational was debunked it would've retracted and it hasn't. But wait for the next one to come out after more higher quality studies are finished and analyzed. If they say it's a good treatment then people are going to have to start changing their minds.
No but I'll tell you what: a lot of women won't even go out with an unvaccinated guy.
biden has money for everything else-eh? have old joe ante up a few billions.Well Merck has the money to do a good trial with thousands of patients. And it will be scrutinized. Medical records will be reviewed, doctors will be interviewed etc. But it'll take more time for good studies with Ivermectin to come out, because it costs money.
i told you politics was involved in medicine-everything has become political....i only bring up trump because of how he was held accountable for EVERYTHING and biden is held accountable for NOTHING...and i really resent the fact that media were willing to back a mentally ill guy hiding in his basement just out of hatred for trump....Well the conservatives tend to be deeply religious and liberals tend to be feminists. There are a lot of nurses in hospitals. And the people supporting Biden tend to be in the "anything but Trump" camp. But I keep saying he was voted out 2 years ago. Why do you have to keep talking about him? I hated George W Bush and you don't see me talking about that. And as a white guy the women all blame me for Trump getting elected and I didn't even vote that year. And then the toxic masculinity movement and me too movement has been hard on guys like me.
But thanks. I'm gonna get some rest.
No but I'll tell you what: a lot of women won't even go out with an unvaccinated guy.
and it helps if you are mentally ill...biden supporters seem to like the mentally ill, but so do i---just not as president.they don't care if you're 6' or taller
you can't tell me you didn't watch the news when trump was president-every lead story for the entire time was anti-trump. i get sick and tired of media trying to cover-up bidens fuckups--i just want to see at least a modicum of accountability aimed towards biden...i mean as if afghanistan wasn't bad enough, then he lied about his military advisers telling him to withdraw civilians before military--imagine if trump would have done this-can you say impeachment?...i mean after trump being impeached twice why is biden getting a free ride....not to mention that biden is mentally ill....If you care about it yeah. So what happens is every 4-8 years we get a new President and a new party in power and that 30% who support the party are happy and fairly silent, the 40% of us independents are indifferent, and the 30% who support the opposition party just b1tch and moan for 4-8 years. It's rather predictable, and in a medical facility it usually boils down to the very religious ones vs the feminists. And I suppose when I worked in South San Antonio immigration was a big issue but we were busy and that's not something they discussed around the only white guy there lol
were you even born when reagan was president, lol...doesn't matter-reagan could give one hell of a good speech and could ad lib with the best of them--biden can't even coherently read off a teleprompter---nonetheless we didn't elect bidens cabinet to run the country now did we---$14.4 BILLION was spent on 2020 presidential election so it must be KINDA important-eh?Well the 30% who support him will say "what are you talking about" and "anything but Trump." The 40% independents will say "Eh. I wish he was sharper, but waddya gonna do?" And the 30% who oppose will say "Go Brandon!"
I'm in the middle camp. It's not like he doesn't have a whole cabinet of advisors. And Reagan was likely senile too. It's not something I'd like to devote much time and energy to.
it must not matter to the media either since they are giving biden a pass...the president must matter to someone if $14.4 BILLION was spent on 2020 election...the most important job of president imo, is CIC, protecting the border and appointments to heads of agencies and federal and supreme court, plus executive orders like MANDATES and the president is the face of the nation and represents us to the world-the president also is over state department and in charge of relations with other countries....it's late and i am tired-but saying it's ok if biden is a mentally ill president because he stuttered as a kid is kinda stupidWell there's one little known fact I learned about Biden that caused me to cut him some slack on that. He used to suffer from a bad stuttering problem as a kid, and it wasn't easy for him to get rid of it. And that probably has something to do with why he sometimes fumbles his words, and he always has. But really he could be mentally gone and the country would get along fine. There's checks and balances and advisors who know what they're doing, though some in the Supreme Court are senile too. It wouldn't affect my daily life one way or another. It's not like the wellbeing of the whole country depends on one person here.
you just made my point that presidents are important-eh?Believe it or not I dated a federal immigration judge. She was appointed by Obama and hated her life under Trump. I'm pretty sure she ended up quitting. No I don't think judge appointments are that important there are plenty of qualified people... except for the supreme court which has wrongly been stacked with partisans on the conservative side.
a lot of guys won’t go out with vaccinated women
Well Merck has the money to do a good trial with thousands of patients. And it will be scrutinized. Medical records will be reviewed, doctors will be interviewed etc. But it'll take more time for good studies with Ivermectin to come out, because it costs money.
@thebigt and I'm not really defending Biden I just see both sides and take the middle view. If you were a radical left winger we would probably have some arguments too. But they're happy and quiet right now.
of course, but it was pretty cold outside so i had time to play.he's not even being genuine. just playing devil's advocate to argue with people
One of our patients earlier this week that was on 90% High-Flow oxygen told us that he wished his employer had mandated the vaccine. My colleague in the room said “Well, that’s the kind of choice you should be able to make yourself.” In his case, he was apparently torn between taking the vaccine or not, so having someone make that choice for him would have likely kept him out of the hospital. I share this purely because it is an interesting perspective.chicago mayor says she hopes vaccine mandate will inspire more people to be vaccinated....?
what da f*ck, that woman needs a proof reader...mandates are making people get vaccinated not inspiring them---geez!!!
if anything they will get vaccinated out of fear...fear of losing their ability to feed their families if they don't SUBMIT to a vaccine they don't want---if that is what you want to call INSPIRATION.

I worked yesterday and he was out of the ICU. I don’t know if he died or went out to the floors. It’s genuinely hard to keep track of all the unvaccinated COVID patients from the past month or more.
For one, you were capable of making that informed and correct choice for yourself to change an addictive behavior. Most people can’t remove themselves from the world and escape the risks of contracting COVID which is essentially inevitable regardless. It should be clearly evident that an unfortunately large number of at risk and unvaccinated patients made poor and irrational choices in light of Delta. They broke themselves, they broke the healthcare system, and in the process, other critically ill patients simply died because they couldn’t get a bed in an appropriate hospital for their needs.i am a recovering alcoholic, i was drinking myself to death and would almost certainly be dead had i not stopped--why didn't the government make me stop drinking?
He was actually in his 60’s and definitely overweight. And yes, he was doing the HFNC/BIPAP bounce. I only saw him once to help out my colleague by checking on his HFNC inhalation water and attempt to wean. That was a no-go as he was on 90%, 60 LPM and desaturated to the mid 80’s when just talking to me.@Ricky10 he sounds kind of young if he was on the fence and had an employer. Maybe mid-30s probably overweight? You're not gonna die on HFNC it'll progress to bipap and then the ventilator unless he's DNI (which wouldn't be the case with a young guy.) There's no reason a HFNC patient can't be on the floors.
except for when they come in for medical treatment and use up resources that could have been used by people making good decisions?Again we have to make the distinction between whether your dumb actions affect just you or others as well. If you're smoking indoors and it's affecting others nowadays it's a crime. If you're part of a violent gang it's a crime. Eat a thousand hotdogs and no one will handcuff you.
Yeah, we mostly have the Airvo HFNCs but we also have the standard old school venturi devices. The only reason I don’t like the Airvo is because you can’t use the Aerogen nebulizer in line with them.60L sounds like the Fischer Paykel units... not my favorite. Yeah I'm surprised if the was doing the HFNC/Bipap bounce he suddenly disappeared. You'd expect him on a ventilator in 2-3 days, though often they surprise you. But in a situation like yours they probably want to reserve the ICU for ventilator patients. The only problem is floor nurses aren't trained for a guy like him.
Well, we could potentially downsize them and maybe staff them appropriately. That would certainly be breaking new ground!lets face it if everyone made good decisions hospitals would be pretty empty.
hospitals would be less than 10% full if people all made good life decisions....think about it?Well, we could potentially downsize them and maybe staff them appropriately. That would certainly be breaking new ground!

pandemic of people who have made bad health/life decisions....i say this being fully aware there are always exceptions to everything!!!pandemic of the obese
