I was watching some tonight, which is a rarity, and I saw an ad for a car that parallel parks itself. Were people really finding this maneuver that difficult? When are they going to come out with a car that stops people from making right hand turns from the left hand lane and nearly running me off the road?

Seems like priorities are off here.

They had a car marketed years ago for that but it didn't sell worth a damn. I think in the bigger cities where parking is very hazardous it would be a decent thing to have especially for car pool types.

You don't need skill to parallel park in a big city, you just need balls. But overall if I had to choose between better drivers and better cars, I'd choose better drivers. Last week I almost got creamed by two flat beds, a school bus and a U-Haul, not to mention the various, far more numerous other minor accidents almost caused by schmucks who don't know left from right and who can't tell a green light from a red. Last week alone I counted eight near rear endings I had, you know the kind where you stop and look in your rearview and see the putz behind you barely managed to stop before hitting you, often by pulling partly off onto the shoulder? Plenty of those and other idiots. Seems here on Long Island the new rule is that when a light turns red you've still got a good 5 to 10 seconds to go through the intersection. I'm thinking of moving to cut my commute not for convenience or cost, but to preserve my life.

I hear ya but in my line of work I have very little faith in getting better drivers anytime soon :) So I guess opt for better cars?

At least you get to shoot one of them occasionally.

Oh yeah...You could move to Texas :)

They don't like my kind down there. Or so they told me when I was there. Or so one **** kicker in a wide brim hat told me.

Not too far off from the actuality of the situation. Never go on a bender with your brother and two married lesbians from the DoD who know Judo. But I digress.

Now THAT'S a story worth hearing!

Not much to it. I had to travel to Freeport for work with Dow. They're always having trouble hiring down there for some reason. My brother was doing the bohemian couch surfing thing and was staying with the lesbos in Houston. Nice chance to see him while I'm down there so we get together and go on a bar crawl, end up at some dive where a guy starts hitting on the hot lesbo. She's Asian, cute, nice cans. The other lesbo, butchy and a martial arts type, gets pissed because she's got a serious case of yellow fever and hates it when people, especially guys, hit on her wife. She gets involved, challenges the guy. He misses the point entirely, doesn't realize they're lesbians. They get into it, she ends up pinning him and for reasons I can't understand, pulls his shoes and pants off. They then get me involved because I'm large and tend to disuade people from fighting even though my fighting ability isn't anything special. I have to explain to this guy the two chicks are carpet munchers, he "don't take to kindly" to that or us, the tender asks us to leave. We hit another bar or two, go back to my hotel room and play Yahtzee. She gave him back his pants before we left. I thought that was a mistake.
