Stressed out!

I'm not sure the proper forum so a mod can move it if needed.

I'm stressed to the max! Life seems to be beating me up from every direction. Cars breaking down, broken appliances that need replaced, sick pets, sick wife, now a tax bill of almost $2k.

To top it off I've already battled depression for 30 years.

Now I've gone from living to workout to just not feeling like it. I know the endorphins would do me good but I take my supps and get ready and then just do nothing. If I do force myself I have a hard time keeping form and my strength seems down.

HELP! I need advice to get through this! Should I wait it out? Keep forcing it? I'm just mentally "not there"..

When I get that feeling I like to take a week off, but pick the date and time you will return to the gym the following week. Sleep and rest like crazy for a week to give your body a little reset, and then pick a completely new and different workout routine than what you've been doing, something that will get you excited to lift again. Sometimes you need to really change it up to keep yourself motivated. I just did this 6 weeks ago, switched to the rp21 program they had on the homepage.. high intensity, heavy weight, short rests.. brutal but its fun, and I'm out of the gym in less than an hour, and it definitely reignited my interest.

These words are the simple truth about life! I'm sure your family is counting on you. While I completely understand your suffering I need to tell you this:

Get up! Get mad!! Dust yourself off, give the world your middle finger and roll on!!!

Know your limits and if you feel like you need a week off, then definitely take it off. Just be careful that a week doesn't turn into a month and then a year, especially if depression is a factor here. Like Scott said, perhaps consider switching things up. Even if you take a break from lifting for a week, try something else like going for a run or finding a heavy bag to work out on.

Channel and frustration into PR's ;)

All about the mindset, most of this is psychological.

It's something I'd recommend discussing with your doctor before us, are you using anti-depressants at all?

Your post sounds like much of my life the past several years. I cannot even post a just account of the many issues exactly like yours I've been persevering through.

Money (never enough), doctor bills, home repairs (leaking roof, ceiling damage, termites, exterior paint, weeds etc), HOA fines/debt (last year I paid off $4k in doctor bills to be hit with $4k from my hoa), taxes, car repairs (head gasket twice, complete set of tires, complete set of breaks, check engine lights), kids braces, kids gymnastics, kids cheer leading.

I've had at times incapacitating stress and anxiety and been overwhelmed to the points of screams and tears and the fetal position for hours at a time. I too have battled depression and substance abuse issues most of my life.

FWIW I'm a Christian. I recently just said to God "I'm not going to make it on my own. My wife and family need a better man than I am capable of being on my own. I wish I was stronger or better or even someone else - but I am not. Please help me!"

I decide to start to study James for simply 5 minutes every morning at 4:30AM with my coffee. To my surprise it was exactly what I needed in my life.

Just a sample of James:

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

"Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

I know in John Jesus said:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

My Father loves me and cares about my real important needs and is beside me to comfort me and encourage me when I am facing what seems insurmountable odds. He is well acquainted with my trials. He has great plans for my future.

Romans 12:2
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Jeremiah 29:11-14
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord,...

I'm not going to take up too much time "preaching" in your thread. As Driven2lift stated it is "All about the mindset, most of this is psychological."

There are many great members of this board who support one another in their time of need.

Be blessed!

you should seek professional help IMO. Find a local therapist to talk to

I find it interesting; the term "seek professional help" - and its negative connotation.

Of course I know you well enough to know that is not what you're implying. I do concur, that in the event you don't have someone to talk to then by all means pay someone to listen. Sounding off is very healthy and for the most part I always know what is wrong and what is right and how to get from A to B but validation is worth its weight and more IMHO.

I have a sage/mentor and a few trusted accountability friends to rely on.

I didn't mean it as a slight towards anyone elses comments here if that how it was perceived. What triggered the suggestion for professional help was based off his "battled depression" comment. From my experience, professional help via therapy is viewed negatively and is avoided by those who need it most, most often by thinking it is something they can just work through and handle on their own. While some can do this, and not everything warrants a therapy session.. life is hard and sucks at time and we have to learn to deal with it.. I get that.. but at the same time, if help is needed, it should be sought out and there is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed of getting it. Now I dont know this guys life or the struggles he has and if they are just everyday struggles or what, but the 30 years battling depression statement is concerning and I would rather him get professional help rather than continue to ignore it
