State Income tax..... Internet Sales tax

Last year for the first time there was a line on our State Income tax form asking how much I spent buying tax free off the internet, and they wanted their 6% tax on that amount.

Now, I have no way in hell of knowing that, especially for the taxes I filed last year.

I guess my question is, how would they know how much I spent buying tax free of the internet? Its not like a 1099 gets issued. How could they possibly track this and enforce it?

they don't know. But just like on federal tax forms now, you can deduct your state sales tax. So if you don't know what it is, they have a chart of your income vs what you likely paid in sales tax that year, and you use the estimate
