Sleep Apnea?

LockNLoad

New member
Just wondering if anyone in here has overcome the slow and miserable side effects of sleep apnea. I was diagnosed in 2014 (but I've believed to have had it since 2011) and apparently I have a severely horrible case. I stopped breathing 106 times per hour with each pause 10 seconds or greater. I bought a CPAP machine and the pressure is set on 18 at the moment. I'm still trying to adjust to it, but was wondering who else has been through this battle or know someone who has? Right now I'm 26 years old and weigh in around 255. I'd like to cut down below 220 and preferably even under 210. I haven't been serious with my training since 2011 and I've gained since then about 50 lbs.

I'm just tired of this effecting me. I haven't slept in the same room as my wife for years, it's costed me job after job and I'm almost embarrassed to take pictures anymore with my kids. I recently started helping my sons smurf football team and it's reminded me of who I used to be 7-8 years ago and how I'm too young to give up and just let this destroy my life. I've got to eat right, lose weight and start training again but I'm in dire need of motivation. Anyone else ever dealt with this or similar battles before?

Keep with it, it gets better. Everyone is different when it comes to recovery time. Im about 10 months in to treatment and its night and day.

I don't have it near as bad. My pressure is set on 8 but I might have a different machine. It's mild, but I did notice I have it. It helps a lot. Really feel the difference the next day. Just knee wearing the mask and make sure there's no air leaking.

did you get a APAP or CPAP? 18 is pretty high, if you have a apap run it in auto mode for a few nights to see what pressure you are mostly at and adjust from there. also the forum cpaptalk.com has some very helpful members, i learned a lot over there.

Had for around 8 years with Cpap use. It's tough but you get used to wearing the mask. I'm not going to say it's fun. Look at different styles of masks as well. Nose pillows work for me best.

The VA gave me a cpap... Sleep Apnea diagnosed at 24 just turned 26. It took awhile to get used to the thing, especially since I'm still young! I cant use those nostril ones because I tend to breath out of my mouth at times so I wear the full face mask.

It's been about 6 months and I don't even notice it really anymore. I get better quality sleep and wake up just feeling better. When you have Sleep Apnea it cuts off the blood flow to your brain somehow... Your vital organs aren't getting the oxygen they need.

That's why when they told me If I don't use it I could have a heart attack, stroke, diabetes etc........ I said fine I will take it! Sleep Apnea Is more treatable than curable but google says if you lose a bunch a weight that might do the trick eh!

I've recently been dx'd with apnra as well. Waiting to get my cpap

DId you guys have to get a sleep study prior to getting a CPAP machine?

How much was that? Was it a headache getting insurance to cover?

Lastly (sorry for the length Q&A) does anyone have issues with a deviated septum?

Yes a sleep study is needed. If you have insurance a doctor can send you for a sleep study. A Cpap machine is very expensive so going through insurance is better.

This has been on my to do list for a while. At my out of pocket max for year, so anything that is covered it on my insurance company the rest of the year. Going to see if I can get this done before year end.

Just started back on CPAP after a few years off, and it has made a HUGE difference for me. Keep it up!

Heard they are easier since in your own bed. Using theirs is very uncomfortable
