I just started doing DC workouts and one of my workouts is straight leg deadlifts (SLDL) I was wondering if it is bad to do SLDL at a heavy weight. I was told in college athletics that it was bad for the back but I notice a lot of people doing them??????

I also do regular DL. I have been training for about 8 years. I do 12-15 straight set. Today I did it 12 of 255 and it felt ok but I dont want to jump weight and risk hurting my back.

its only bad for the back if your form is off. the first time i went over 170 pounds on SLDL my form went to crap, and thankfully there was a mirror nearby where i could see my back was arched like a cat. any time you go up in weight on SLDL, get someone to critique your form. as soon as your back is rounded out (when the weights are close to the ground) you're risking damaging your back.
