What's everyone using these days?
I'm 40 next year and I definitely see the damage over the years creeping in. Luckily I don't have any serious cracks on the face just yet. I wish I started a skin care routine many years ago.
Over the years I've tried loads of different skincare products. Some promise glass skin and never deliver but their are definitely some good products out their.
For years I just used the ordinary moisturiser. After a shower I would apply this. That was it. I only ever used a sunscreen on holidays (I live in Scotland). I then swapped to a moisturiser that had an spf 30 already added. It also had hyaluronic acid and a low end retinol. It was ok.
I eventually started on Tretonoin. Tret in the UK is very hard to get a hold of. You can get it from a dermatologist but apart from the 2 year waiting list it's also crazy expensive. I then found out that chemist's in Spain do this over the counter. Next spain trip I picked up a few bottles. I picked up a 0.025 and a 0.5 strength.
I used it for a year and the difference was amazing tbh. No product even came close to matching it tbh. I kept getting headaches all that year though and never connected it to the Tret. I eventually stopped and they seemed to go away. Not sure why but I seemed to be reacting to it. I know it's topical but looking at studies it does show that small amounts of Tret do go systemic. I can't for sure say this was the issue.
Once I stopped this I was like.. Where do I go from here? I then read about Grass fed beef tallow. I found a good brand and picked this up. I've now been using this alone for about 6 months. It's been doing a fantastic job but.... It isn't Tret. I might try adding in Tret 2-3 times a week and see how I feel.
I still do sunbeds. I react very poorly to vitamin d3. I've tried numerous brands and all them make me feel like trash. Being in Scotland our winters have zero sun to produce vitamin D. I then started doing sunbeds. I just do 4 minutes a week and it keeps my vitamin D levels fairly high. It says online that sunbeds won't produce vitamin D but honestly they do. I always feel better with higher vitamin D levels.
What is everyone else doing to maintain their skin?
I've heard about methylene blue and GHK-cu seem to be getting an amazing review? Could I make a methylene blue + Ghk serum and apply this under the beef tallow?
I like a basic skincare routine. After a shower in the evening I can apply it and be good. I will apply an spf cream in the mornings during the summer period.
Any advice?
