What's everyone using these days?

I'm 40 next year and I definitely see the damage over the years creeping in. Luckily I don't have any serious cracks on the face just yet. I wish I started a skin care routine many years ago.

Over the years I've tried loads of different skincare products. Some promise glass skin and never deliver but their are definitely some good products out their.

For years I just used the ordinary moisturiser. After a shower I would apply this. That was it. I only ever used a sunscreen on holidays (I live in Scotland). I then swapped to a moisturiser that had an spf 30 already added. It also had hyaluronic acid and a low end retinol. It was ok.

I eventually started on Tretonoin. Tret in the UK is very hard to get a hold of. You can get it from a dermatologist but apart from the 2 year waiting list it's also crazy expensive. I then found out that chemist's in Spain do this over the counter. Next spain trip I picked up a few bottles. I picked up a 0.025 and a 0.5 strength.

I used it for a year and the difference was amazing tbh. No product even came close to matching it tbh. I kept getting headaches all that year though and never connected it to the Tret. I eventually stopped and they seemed to go away. Not sure why but I seemed to be reacting to it. I know it's topical but looking at studies it does show that small amounts of Tret do go systemic. I can't for sure say this was the issue.

Once I stopped this I was like.. Where do I go from here? I then read about Grass fed beef tallow. I found a good brand and picked this up. I've now been using this alone for about 6 months. It's been doing a fantastic job but.... It isn't Tret. I might try adding in Tret 2-3 times a week and see how I feel.

I still do sunbeds. I react very poorly to vitamin d3. I've tried numerous brands and all them make me feel like trash. Being in Scotland our winters have zero sun to produce vitamin D. I then started doing sunbeds. I just do 4 minutes a week and it keeps my vitamin D levels fairly high. It says online that sunbeds won't produce vitamin D but honestly they do. I always feel better with higher vitamin D levels.

What is everyone else doing to maintain their skin?

I've heard about methylene blue and GHK-cu seem to be getting an amazing review? Could I make a methylene blue + Ghk serum and apply this under the beef tallow?

I like a basic skincare routine. After a shower in the evening I can apply it and be good. I will apply an spf cream in the mornings during the summer period.

Any advice?

i use transdermal pregnenolone from alpha gainz called P5(not on my face). its pregnenolone at 25mg/m in a salvo carrier that has good penetration, i apply roating to shoulder arms, chest and inner thighs and calf's on different days. lots of the downstream progesterone and other metabolites seem to help my skin tone and plumpness of skin on my face, as i have got older there has been loss of subcutaneous fat pads in my face that had aged me starting in my early to mid 40's. i spent my entire youth outdoors without sunscreen playing soccer, baseball, and have a fishing boat and am always on the golf course so i have lots of cumulative damage over the years(i dont want to look like skeletor in 20 years.lol), this is more pronounced in people that naturally have thin skin on their face and are lean when they are younger as they age. even have some basal cell on my nose and forehead that i have to get taken care of

I just starting using a face cream from Amazon that is 1% Retinol, 2% collagen and 5% hyaluronic acid with vitamin e and aloe. The difference it's made on my face in just under a week is in credible. All the darkening and red areas completely gone.

Hey 👍

I actually have that exact product. I haven't used it for a while. I might add it back in and take note on my appearance. I never thought about pregnenolone tbh.

What are you dosing?

I actually think being on TRT ages you due to down regulation of these neuro steroids. I done bloodwork and DHEA and Pregnenolone were both low. It's meant to be common with being on TRT. I will add them back in.

I also have the topical DHEA from the same company so I can experiment with this also.

Did you notice changes fairly quick?

Sounds a healthy combination.

Did you get any retinol peeling?

I noticed changes pretty quick. Usually within 2 weeks or so. I am also on TRT as of within the past 5 months or so. I have taken transdermal pregnenolone intermittently for the past few years and can definitely tell differences when off and on. I usually dose it around 1.5ml a day. Went as high as 3ml a day but not keen on putting so much high volume carrier chemicals on my skin long term especially because I am on androgel also

I used retinol prescription cream back in 2001 during early 20s and did help clear acne up but did cause lot of photo sensitivity and peeling, the nortestosterone metabolites did my skin in at the time. I think the medicine was retin-a micro or something like that. Hard to rememember. Then went on to use accutane that I dosed lower than prescribed back in 2001-2003 ish

It’s a peptide product called KLOW, it has KVP, GHK, BPC and TB in it, it’s should be beneficial for skin, hair, recovery and anti aging. I haven’t tried it yet but planning on it. I have used GHK by itself, I think it helps.

HGH should be the most obvious one though.

Just looked this up and it looks a healthy combination. Can you run this combo long term?

As with everything it’s probably the best to cycle but a 3-4 month cycle should not be an issue with these peptides. Maybe @Smont know better.

HGH is something you can run long term.

Im not a expert but Bpc and TB would just be active on the skin and not going systemic so I'd imagine that's fine. The studies on bpc worry about the long term use cause the formation of new blood vessels but that shouldn't happen with a oral or face cream.

GHK I know of a lot of ppl use it long term for skin care and i only see benefits for the most part.

KVP? Not sure what this one is.

And I also would suggest HGH @1-3iu as the number 1 anti-aging measure you can take. I saw someone in another thread about contest prep or something mentioning HGH=thin skin and that couldn't be farther from the truth. HGH makes your skin THICKER, it promotes collagen synthesis and makes your skin more elastic (elastin production) keeps it hydrated and repairs cell damage. The goal is replacement dose, not bodybuilding doses.

Has Jay Cutler ever talked about his hair and skin routine? His face still looks young and his skin is not very wrinkled given 20+ years of high anabolic use and being 52, unfortunately there's probably a huge genetic factor there. Lots of the top guys had good skin and that's probably genetics

Btw I did try GLOW, (GHK/BPC/TB), it was pretty good. My next try will be the KLOW though, if nothing else I hope it’ll help healing/recovering my shoulder that’s about to fall off.

Cutler’s genetics is obviously great but I also think he always have been responsible in his living (sleep, diet, training and drugs). He said in an interview he had a nutritionist since he was 18 and always been on a diet (more or less) since then.

Imagine how much better all of us would look if we were more responsible with our diet/sleep. I think that is the number 1 you can do to look your best.

definitely the truth...i am so jealous of the people that eat like **** and still look good. usually they are the people that are physically active at work and can get away with it. when i worked warehouse jobs in my late teens and early 20's i could get away with eating like crap and massive amounts of calories because i would burn it all off in 4 hours of picking orders for frito lay and loading trucks

Testosterone stimulates mtor and overstimulating mtor accelerates ageing. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere the hypothesis that it's this that means you generally find men die younger than women in old age.

Yeh I would 100% agree. I've noticed most people who use testosterone definitely look older than their age.

But. Just resistance training will also stimulate MTOR. Eating protein all day also stimulates MTOR. I would actually say that consuming leucine all day will be more harsh than testosterone.

Me personally. I eat one meal a day. I can easily maintain my physique on this. If I'm in a growing phase I will add 1 protein shake directly after training. I do try and limit mtor stimulation all day long. I know that more protein spread out over the day will definitely improve actual muscle growth but I'm happy with slow and steady. I also only train 3 days a week. You can easily stimulate muscle growth on a 3 day program. Even 2 days a week is ideal also.

You could utilise metformin or berberine that has been shown to restrict mtor. Not sure how this will be in terms of slowing aging and or age related skin aging?

Even though I'm on testosterone i do only use actual TRT. I don't blast anymore. I use testosterone to only feel good and it also helps maintain my physique very easily as I'm aging.

I do try and balance stress/mtor.

What is everyone else doing to maintain their skin?
I've been using my wife's stuff when she isn't looking, and she got me this for Christmas which I've used ever since (so what, like 4 days) and I think its pretty solid so far

You might want to research Japanese people I think one of their islands has a population that reaches very old ages in very good condition. I forget the details, one of those things I've read about in passing see. Also I have done the one meal a day thing for most of my life so far, initially not thru choice but got used to it and I can say I do look young for my age. Only problem is for me I ended up being skinny with fat 'handles' everywhere instead of skinny lean. So just watch out for that.

Hey 👍

What will I look up regarding the Japanese? What's the correlation?

OMAD (One meal a day). I've noticed that it makes gaining weight almost impossible. Prior to OMAD my typical maintenance calories were around 3200. I use to eat around 3500 and could usually grow without too much fat. With OMAD I've ate 4000+ for a few weeks and my weight doesn't change at all. The scale would sometimes shift a little and then it would plummet back down. It's a good diet to maintain your physique and also if you have a huge appetite (I do). It's not really a diet for growing. I'm sort of past the wanting to gain as much as possible anymore. I just like to be reasonably lean and feel good. Omad does that for me.

Did you ever get back lash from people about OMAD? I had family members say to me. You need to be eating breakfast lunch and dinner this diet is so unhealthy. This was coming from people who were obese. On statins and blood pressure medications. I was lean. A good physique and not on a single medication. Make it make sense 😂. My partner started the diet this year. After seeing that I could eat as much as I wanted to and remain lean. They were the same as everybody else ie brainwashed and thought you needed 3 meals a day. It took them a good month to become stable with the diet and now they love it. They feel much better during the day (No more blood sugar swings). They use to eat 2200 calories a day and feel starving all day. They eat much more than that now and don't gain any weight.

What's your diet now?

With the Japanese thing it's thought their diet plays a key role in keeping them looking young and mobile into their very old age.

My experience of OMAD

My OMAD wasn't really a choice when young was kind of necessity that formed a habit so continued in my 20s, the good thing about it is I don't have any indicators of bad health that people of my ethnic background are predisposed too. I look really young for my age. The negatives are that I didn't really grow as tall as I should have and didn't put a good foundation of muscle on (that was probably a lack of exercise tho) except for my legs as I had to cycle everywhere. Towards the end of my teen years I was cycling alot and had a high fat moderate carb one meal diet that made my libido crazy there was like a heat emanating from my groin area that people could feel (if they were sat at a desk typing and I'd come over to drop off some paperwork, they'd notice, male work colleagues would joke about it) the other negative was fuzzy brain but that coincided with me moving from home cooked food to takeout junk. Then I learned how to drive, got fat on OMAD on takeout junk due to no exercise. Then took up marathon running with the same diet and messed up my testosterone into the low normal range. Currently trying to put muscle on through eating regularly and gym workouts to claw back my testosterone. Put this long post up to give you my experience of it and allow you to take whatever lessons you can take from it.

I'm in my late 30's and also on TRT so I'm past any growing stage and also my hormones are always high.

It's a good diet if you struggle with appetite and binging. For me personally I don't like to eat during the day. I always felt sluggish and brain fog'd. I did try intermittent fasting which improved things but eventually I just naturally moved to OMAD. It slotted in my lifestyle perfectly. The only issues I had were from family and Co workers. The endless comments of your gonna make yourself so unwell eating like this. They would all say.. You know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I had these comments almost daily. I remember saying to my co workers. OK lads if it is so bad for you then let's see who's in physically the better shape. Me or use. They refused to lift their tops up. I had a 6 pack and they were all obese 😂 After lunch breaks all the guys were running at 50% energy and felt terrible and I was powering on with zero issues.

Sadly it's the brainwashed world we live in. I remember one guy arguing with me saying that the best protein source after doing a tough workout was a....... Pizza 😂 He said a football manager and coach taught him all this nutrition knowledge. I said.... Are you being serious? So a pizza is better than a whey protein shake that contains every amino acid in a small calorie amount? You need to eat 800 calories of pizza to get 30g of protein and a shake is 120 calories for 30g. Yes that's the type of people I have to listen to 😂

If your goal is to build muscle then breakfast absolutely is the most important meal of the day, intermittent fasting and one meal a day is great for the average person, it's great for general fitness, but it's not great for looking your best. If it was everybody builder on the planet would eat one meal a day or do intermittent fasting.

With that being said, when my appetite is low I do this one meal a day or intermittent fasting style approach myself

People have funny ideas it doesn't help that there's big money involved in all of this and so separating what's best for you from what's not can be tricky. Count yourself blessed and lucky to be able to eat as you please, many people in the world don't have that option. If OMAD works for you, do it, just make sure you are getting a good level of nutrition. Physiology wise at times you might feel super motivated, just bare in mind that could be because your body is flooding you with the required energy and hormonal signals to get up and go find food. What you are eating is super important and should fulfill your nutritional needs. When I was cycling and doing OMAD I was in the best condition of my life with rugby guy style muscular legs, if I'd have taken up the gym back then then I reckon I could've got muscular up top too. Sadly I didn't and I find eating all the time now to be a real hassle.

I've seen loads of research where a 16:8 fasting protocol built just as much mass as a standard diet. But basing it on physics. A diet with more Muscle Protein Synthesis spikes is gonna produce more growth.

I can't stand breakfast. I have never had any appetite in the morning at all for years.

If I want to grow I will just add a protein shake after my workout and then eat my omad meal in the evening. It's definitely not as effective as 4-6 meals a day but for me personally it still causes progress. I sometimes will use some EAA's 1-2 times a day also. My EAA has 3g of leucine per scoop and a good amino acid profile so will also help a little. Nothing beats actual food though.

Prior to OMAD I remember always just feeling sluggish and brain fog'd. When I'm fasting I definitely feel better. Takes a little while to adjust but once you do it's a nice bonus.

What's your diet you utilise personally? Do you do bulk/cut phases?

its Okinawa, there is a docuseries (4 part I think) called Live to 100 and Okinawa is one of the 4 places he identifies for really good longevity. The other 3 might surprise you.

I have done blood nutrition tests to check my levels and all were good. I always eat a good whole foods diet. I very rarely eat any processed or fast foods. I want to age as good as I can. I believe that diet is a huge part of this. I was obese for a large part of my life. I eventually changed my diet and started training and it was life changing.

Do you think cycling alone can add mass to your legs? I cycle alot. I love it. It's my favourite form of cardio. I do still train my legs but I do like 6 overall sets a week on legs. My legs are way past my upper body.

So alot about the way I cycle was done by happen chance due to the quirks of the bike I had and I think it's this way of cycling that built my legs. It was a bike that was given to me by someone who didn't want it so it wasn't exactly a good fit. What that meant is when I was cycling I had to keep my legs in a constant state of tension. Best way to figure out what I mean is to stand up and tense your legs and then mimic a cycling motion with one of them whilst trying to keep that level of initial tension. The other thing I did was I'd cycle as fast as I could until the lactic acid was unbearable and then I'd cycle slowly till it wore off and then repeat. I would keep the gear at a level that was challenging at all times, I would never downshift and would only go up a gear after a few months, once it had become too easy. Hills would always be ridden up at max speed and my route meant the most challenging hill was the one at the end of it. 2 hours cycling in total per day, I'm not sure if this method would work now, when I used it I was in my late teens and so that hormonal mileau might have been more responsible. Also there were times when I didn't need to cycle and during these rest periods of a few weeks at a time that I noticed mass building up. I'm not sure if it would work at your age but who knows? If you are cycling you may aswell give it a go anyway, lmk if anything develops!

I might actually give it a go again myself as I've lost most of my leg mass to the marathon running.

I do notice that days after a good cycle that my legs definitely feel the burn. I think that any stress on a muscle will trigger growth. Maybe not as potent as squats etc but any growth is still growth.

I have an indoor bike that allows you to cycle with alot of resistance. I will always finish off a session with a few minutes of high resistance. It feels like a workout and causes alot of lactic acid. This must stimulate growth. I may do an experiment and just stop training legs for 3-4 months and only cycle and see what happens. Be interesting to see how my measurements change.

I'd do both just in case, plus 2hours cycling 5 days a week is a massive time investment, for me it was necessity to travel to work and back so it wasn't wasted time and I'd always usually set off late so I was pushing myself hard. I'd do both that way you can reduce the amount of time invested in cycling. If you start getting better gains then you can say it's added something at least.

PLEASE STOP

If your goal is to build muscle then breakfast absolutely is the most important meal of the day, intermittent fasting and one meal a day is great for the average person, it's great for general fitness, but it's not great for looking your best. If it was everybody builder on the planet would eat one meal a day or do intermittent fasting.

With that being said, when my appetite is low I do this one meal a day or intermittent fasting style approach myself
Pls don’t encourage this dumb thread! The posts in this thread made me dumber and I regret reading this sh*t ppl been posting.

1 meal a day, low protein, high Testosterone makes you age, WTF??! Good luck being a skinny fat liberal nerd that look old and weak (not you @Smont). None of this bs will keep you from aging.

If you want to age gracefully, eat organic clean protein rich food with healthy fats multiple times a day, work out with weights (moderate/heavy), sleep 8+ hrs and drink plenty of water! I know, that’s hard work for you weak minded nerds but you won’t find a short cut with your stupid 1 meal a day/low testosterone plan.

End of rant, hope I offended enough ppl, Happy New Year to those I didn’t.

You didn't actually read this thread did you? Instead of using attention seeking hissy fit ranting poster tactics why don't you engage in constructive dialogue, like an adult? I'm not going to dig out scientific articles for you or deconstruct all of your ill informed assumptions. Instead I'll just say if you read my experience of OMAD it kind of agrees with what you are saying about OMAD but in a more diplomatic way. However if you use Google ai to digest all that nerdy research it might help you get better informed, it's only half nerdy cos it's not the actual research papers your reading, promise.

No you didn’t

Use the key words mtor and ageing. Then afterwards you might like to look up autophagy. I won't respond to any further posts if you rant btw.

I'm not offended, but I find it offensive if you find me offensive.
