Serious concept suggestion

This idea sprang up from stuff in the new flavor thread.

How about a new line of powders that aren't sweet: a seasoning line of protein powder.

The first powder would obviously be cheese flavored. But you could add other ones after that. Spices, curries, bacon flavored, etc. The purpose behind it is because your Whey protein has a ton of protein with virtually no other macros. Thus this would be a fantastic way for dieters to season their food without violating their diet.

Plus it'd be fantastic for seasoning bulking food as well because it allows them to add yet MORE protein to their diet and gives them an alternative instead of fat.

Personally I think the protein shake market is probably limited. I know a lot of people that simply don't like shakes but don't mind adding protein powder to food as long as it doesn't interfere or better yet enhances the food's flavor. By coming out with a tasty line of "seasoning whey" you'd widen your market AND provide and invaluable service to us bodybuilding types.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw the idea out there. I hope you guys consider it. I know I and a host of others would KILL for a good cheese flavored powder to add to our food. I mean think about the potential here...

add skim milk to the cheese powder and pour on whole wheat pasta for HEALTHY mac and cheese.

Add to grits to put protein in the grits and add a delicious cheesy flavor.

Put it on your chicken or even add to skim milk and pour over chicken for cheesy chicken dishes that have little to no fat and very low carbs too! Heck, put it on just about any meat you would otherwise add cheese to!

The number 1 most difficult thing dieters have giving up is cheese. By having the optino to use cheese flavored Whey Protein, they don't have to be tempted by cheese anymore, they can stay on their diet AND continue to enjoy the flavor of cheese.

So, please, consider this concept. You'll have hundreds of willing testers right here on the board to help you perfect each flavor.

Get some 96% lean beef, whole wheet bun and some cheese protien. I think bobo may even let that slide. Well, maybe not, but it sure would taste good right about now!!!

No, not 96% beef.

Get some OSTRICH, a whole grain high fiber bun and some cheese protein powder.

THAT, Bobo might let slide.

Buffalo meat is also very lean and tasty as well. If either fo those are too pricy though, you could just go the 99% fat free ground turkey route.

Oh man, I just thought of something. You could take ground turkey, and some garlic, fry them in flax seed oil, then add cheese protein to skim milk and pour the "sauce" over your turkey-meatballs. Mmmmmm.

... you can tell I'm on a diet.

Me to, Im sure mine is a little tastier then yours but this is my first "true" diet so I am having a tough time getting used to eating the same things everyday. Kinda sucks and I am only about 10 days in so of course there are really no gains to speak of.

This has the potential to be very good or very nauseating. There would be some limitations though. Seasonings wouldn't make sense. Even if you could do it taste wise, the amount of protein you'd get by sprinkling anything other than a boatload of protein seasoning on your meat would be negligible I think.

These powders would likely be limited to sauces such as you could make with the cheese flavored one. High protein tomato sauce. High protein white wine sauce. High protein salsas. In the sauces I think there is a shitload of potential, just like in those sugarless syrups everyone seems to like. Don't see much in the way of seasoning though just because of how they're used.

How about a line of products, ready to eat meals, a kind of add water and heat in the microwave thing, with a perfect 40/40/20 macro split? You can find low carb stuff anywhere, one of the things I've noticed though is it's not so easy to find just a balanced meal with good quality carbs and low sodium unless you make it yourself. Something like that, reasonably priced, would definitely pull me in. It'd be a better MRP that what's generally available now. And the sauces, if done right, would be damn good. Healthy mac and protein cheese sounds like it could be a hit.

You have a point about spices and such.

However bacon would be awesome. A number of other flavors that aren't on the list of healthy foods would be good too. Specifically non-sweet stuff though. Bacon flavoring can't be TOO tough since they do make fake bacon bits for salads and such.

Mostly I see a potential with a variety of cheese flavors. Different types of cheese powders offering a range of sharpness and whatnot. From an american or cheddar type flavor to a mild swiss or a subtle mozzarella. Yes, the sauce angle does seem the best way to go for most of these ideas. Though selling only the sauce form wouldn't be as good because you lose a lot fo the flexibility.

That goes without saying. Want a good bacon recipe I got, try this: fry up some bacon, take it out of the pan slightly underdone. Fry up pecans in the grease with some extra butter until they're a little underdone, add the bacon, finish cooking of both, and then add a shitload of honey. Worst food nutritionally on the planet, but good God it tastes so frigging good.

I do not think that you are crazy - I actually forwarded it to the nutritionist to see what could be done. I will let you know what he says.

"This has the potential to be very good or very nauseating."

LMAO..ditto.

When I read "bacon flavored protein powder"...I threw up a little in my mouth. I am sick of sweet flavors but trying to duplicate the flavor of real food with a shake/pastey consistency is going to be tough. You've got to undo years of taste/texture conditioning in order to drink your cheese burger..ugh, I can't go on. lol

That's why I said you wouldn't use it for shakes.

As for bacon flavoring, they make powdered bacon flavor already that's fun to put in stuff. It's a seasoning you add. Many sauces include types of ham or even bacon. The sauce takes on the flavor of the meat and doesn't even require the meat to be in it anymore to still taste like the meat. This is what would happen with a bacon flavored protein powder. You could add it to a pasta sauce for example to increase protein content while adding a nice smoky bacon flavor to the sauce.

Okay - I went to my weekly sales meeting and the nutritionist was looking at me, funny, i thought. I asked if he received my email and he just shrugged. So the owner was there and he asked what I was talking about AND i whipped out copies of the thread AND he thought it was totally interesting. You guys make such a good point.

he said that he would get back to me - BUT i told him that I need the GOD DAMN PB FLAVOR , first.....i will keep you posted.

Laura

Hey, that sounds like an excellent idea. Gave me some ideas, thanks.

Good job on making this a separate thread!

I got excited when this came up just simply due to the fact that whole grain mac and cheese might come from this, lol.

This could be ground breaking!
....or as was suggested...completely revolting. I see lots of trial and error coming.

Okay - I have copied the latest comments and I am forwarding them all to the owner.......I will keep you posted. I like the look on the nutritionist's face when he sees me:jaw: - But the owner is very interested in your novel ideas.
