Sean's Powerlifting Journey

Yessir. If I want to hang around 198, I'm not gonna be as strong as I want.

IF I decide to cut at the next meet, it'll be from 230 to 220.

I'll see what my body composition is like around 215-220. If I'm still relatively lean, I'll hopefully be where I want AT 220.

I like chains better than bands anyways.

I like chains for heavy reps, because they don't give you the recoil feel bands do, just a smooth slow added weight to grind against feel. ("grind against" I love dirty deadlift talk)
Bands are gooder for speeds for me.

I gotta say, my hips feel great. Conventional may be sticking around for good.....until I change my mind

Yeaaaaah, there ya go, now yer talkin'

This is the only deadlift. The other pull, is a sumo lift. ;-)
Where's my man Toro???

Haha agreed, man. I was strictly convo with zero thought of sumo until I was playing around with the single ply stuff.

Just ain't usin my Oly shoes like Toro :P

Years ago, Dick Conner (The Pit Barbell Club) Invalid Link Removed
Used to visit prisons, (I think one was Indiana Corrections.) Anyway, he made a comment about their deadlifts and how there were guys under #200, pulling #700 bills and these were the loooong pulls, he called them. All conventional, arms outside the knees and these guys were natty doin it.
Pretty good stuff. I will look to see if I can find the exact article. It was in an old Hardgainer mag.

I say deadlift conventional and stick to plates and some mild deficits. There is something to be said for sticking the the movement and not doing too so variants that you suck at doing it the right way. That's just my $.02 though. Definitely get up to 220 but I would say stay lean and don't stress about your weight. Try to make clean gains but the most strength as you can. You have many years of comp ahead of you and should just develop your strength Instead if worrying about cutting other than a few pounds for a comp of you're over 220.

Conventional pulling FTW. I may one day venture to Sumos, but I keep progressing on conventional so I've stuck with it for now. Deficits, snatch grip variations, and paused deadlifts have been my staples the last 12 weeks (and some band work).

inb4your275.

My 220 decision was made on my meet week. 198 isn't me. Screw that.

I'll be following the overload/underload plan the Cube calls for, with varying heights. Snatch grip and sumo will be used sparingly just for variety and different strengths

308??? :D

Brian Carroll just had that interview where he said "There WILL come a point where you'll say fkk this. It happens every cut." Wrestling teams generally say fk this to each other about once every five minutes. That's a thing you can't simulate until you haven't had food or water for almost a day and haven't had a carb for almost a week. That's what happened to you on meet week. Your mind fcked with you.

I'm going to do sumo speed pulls on bodybuilding day. 5x5, just to get some work in on the opposite stance. Build that booty.

Bro-Math 101

Stack **** up on a scale until it's at your pull height where the bar is at in your hands. Add up that weight. Attatch bands and subtract the scale weight from that weight.

Minibands=52lbs
Light bands (pictured)=102lbs

Helped another guy figure out reverse band tension for himself using the SSB and average bands. A whopping 242lbs for his height in the hole.

I shoulda figured out the bottom tension if the deadlift but I didn't think of it until now. I don't really care though.

Not a bad set up.
Mine is a bit simpler maybe. I use a reg flat bathroom scale on floor and just bring the height up to my pull level with a length of 2x4, or something I can pull a band over top of and set on the scale. If I get #120 with my green say, I just add another #120 for the other side, then bar weight.
I can hang my chains off the 2x4 also, to weigh them.

Why not just hold the bar while on the scale?

Dangled upside down from the jacked up monolift. Lumbar feels great now.

Just don't ask someone "Hey do you mind giving me a jack while I'm hanging upside down?"

It's a pretty common phrase around these parts.

I thought you were in the area where you ask your cousins that?

You are thinking of the wrong Virginia. ;)

inb4WV people get mad.

Cube Boss RE Bench

Warmup
DeFranco's Simple 6
Cressey's spinal flossing

Bench Press
200x3x8 (3 sets of 8...)

Close Grip Bench
215x3x6

1" Pause Bench Press
185x3x8 ****ing Brutal

Pendlay Rows/Miniband Flys
185x15,15,15,12,10 Huge pump

Light Banded Tricep Pushdowns/Triple Threats

By far my best benching session in a long time..possibly forever. I wish I took video. Legs locked in and pushing hard. My right delt was buggin me so it made me focus on keeping my shoulders packed. The 1" pause helped me with bar path. I didn't feel as prone to push it towards my face.

Man, I can't tell you how much of a pleasure it was reading this log entry entered in sets by reps. I will sleep better tonight.

Thx Sean

But really, nice work man.

sets by reps, would a logical flow of listing workouts...lol

Nice benching, I'm just sitting here at 202 deloading. Any next meet planned?

Always good to hear of reaching benchmarks. No pun intended

CGs looking solid too big man...nice work.

Yeah, I like CGs just for that good Lat connection. I also like decline bench for the same as well as the shoulder tuck needed with them. Keep moving the numbers champ!

How many days out are you? Going for 181 still?

Possibly March in Rhode Island. We'll see.

lol from 202, you want me to die? Sunday I compete.

So much hostility in here.....

:)

Let's just universally do sets x weight x reps so no one is confused.

That sounds awful.

weight x sets x reps makes the most sense.
