I enjoy the moment, in a twisted way. I agree, though, the DOMS suck. Im sore as hell now.
I don’t really believe in it. I am not trying to stimulate maximal hypertrophy; I just want to get stronger. And that’s not something I can do repeatedly in a sustainable fashion month in and month out, so it’s not going to help me nearly as much as it will be a liability to longevity. #buzzkill #getoffmylawn

I never thought I could do it either, man. I just tried doing it super slow and that actually felt easier for some reason.

I'm sarting a new clinical rotation next week. It'll be on another neuro floor. Hopefully I can see something new at least.

My legs finally recovered from Saturday so I went in today and fucked them up all over again.

Leg Extension
Worked up to 115 for a painful set of 20
Rest 45 then 12
Rest 45 then 10

Leg Press
3 sets of 10 reps high & wide then right after do 10 reps narrow & slow slow piston style.
Started w/140 ea side and dropped a 25 off each set after.

Slow-motion Walking Lunge
Lay down between each set with legs elevated
40ea hand x3x8ea leg

Pretty sure 90% of my blood volume is now in my legs.

Straight set lying hamstring curl

Seated Calve Raise w/10 sec stretch in bottom of each final rep

Most vascular my legs have been in ages. I decided I will NOT be in a calorie deficit today.

Nice - so thats implying your on a neuro floor currently, too? Different neuro subspecialty or what? I did some shadowing/mentoring in Neuro during didactic year (they placed us, I didnt pick it) and it was super fascinating stuff but I just felt so damn helpless. Its like post-stroke check-ins trying to see if any neurological function spontaneously returns and managing DAPT. At least thats what the PA i was with did for the most part.

I actually have gotten interested in the operative side of neuro...CNS tumor resections and spine surgery (not that I totally buy into all the spine surgeries that are done...more so interested in the acute(r) side of things on that front) sounds like something that could really keep someone interested for years and years. Here’s to hoping you have an interesting and rewarding clinical brotha

I was going to squat today but I don't feel like driving 40min to the gym and my backyard is currently a swamp so I'll take a rest day. I'm digging my extended training week; 1) I have less training schedule anxiety 2) I'm recovering better, especially being in a deficit.

Diet crashed Fri/Sat. We put our dog to sleep Saturday. I'm back on track and have brought my workout day cals down to 2450. I'll bump that up on the days I need to. My energy is decent in the gym.

Yeah I managed to make those inclines climb from 6 reps to 9 over the last 3 weeks. Felt good on my shoulders, too.

I appreciate your thoughts, man. He was old and had some bad tumors. It metastasized and he also had fluid in his lungs. We decided to allow him to pass vs prolonging things with lasix and prednisone and risk things getting worse. We have two young boys and they took it extremely hard. I think that was the worst part of it all.

Nah. The kids have a cat we got last year when the cat before died of old age. With my wife's schedule and me being in nursing school, it'd be tough to have a puppy. We were lucky with this dog because by the time we had kids, he was an adult and was a stereotypical bloodhound-lazy and content.

Told the kids when I graduate, we will get a puppy. They want another bloodhound.

I like that I've been able to let go of my usual set in stone training schedule. I lift when I feel recovered or when my school schedule allows it. Could be 3 days between muscle groups or 5. I feel that being in a deficit that having that extended training week is what's recovering me the best.

Off tomorrow. Will do the rower. Then start up the 4th training week on Saturday.

Not sure. I'll have to drop in one day. My gym is like 3 mins max from my house and I have to deal with crossing the river going to body doctors lol. And that's a big deal for us that have been here a while haha

My youngest is obsessed with going to the gym. Last Saturday I was getting groceries and I got a text from my wife saying he's melting down crying because he thought I went to the gym without him. I got home and had to console him as he was hyperventilated and sobbing, begging to go to the gym.

He pulls the sled to earn popcicles. Then does some work with the kettlebells.
