Rhodiola cycle

So I know that Rhodiola has to be cycled, if not it loses its effect. My question is instead of running it for months on and then off can you just take it every couple of days without it losing its effectivness? Take a few different herbs inbetween with like 2-3 rest?

You'd probably be better off doing something a little bit longer in duration. I usually need at least a week for rhodiola to really kick in for me.

I've actually run Rholdiola Rosea pretty much for nearly three years straight now, with only a week here and there not using it, and its effects have not lost effect. You don't have to run it for months on end, but definitely want to use it longer than a couple of weeks here and there - try for 8-12 weeks before taking a break if you feel like you need or want one.

How are you peeps dosing it?

Usually twice a day, the one I'm using from Gaia is a blend that has 6mg Rosavins per serving. Their Adrenal Health product. Their straight Rhodiola is 6mg Rosavins per capsule, more potent.

Huh that interesting! The reason I ask is people saying it stops working PERMENANTLEY if it isnt cycled. So what effects do u get from it? Also I would likely need to dose it every couple of days because of cost...

Well, I've seen no reduction in effectiveness - then again, as I have said many times here before, my body does not respond as expected and like most people when it comes to pretty much about everything, and so what works for me is not necessarily something you should go off.

Rhodiola Rosea is a potent adaptogen - its effects are "magic" for me, especially when stacked with Suma Root, and help make me functional (if you've ever read any of my logs, you'll see where I am coming from).

Rhodiola is mild CNS stimulant Avoid taking it in the evening as it may cause insomnia in sensitive people.

Possibly, this is true. Interesting seeing how different everyone is - I actually use it pre-bed, since it helps me with my sleep :)

How many mg's are you dosing. It seems my body has gotten used to used to it. The last bottle I bought, i noticed nothing from it.

Active constituents

Rhodiola species contain a range of antioxidant compounds, including p-tyrosol, organic acids (gallic acid, caffeic acid, and chlorogenic acid), and flavonoids (catechins and roanthocyanidins).
The stimulating and adaptogenic properties of Rhodiola rosea are attributed to p-tyrosol, salidroside (synonym: rhodioloside and rhodosin), rhodioniside, rhodiolin, rosin, rosavin, rosarin, and rosiridin.1,4 Rosavin is the constituent currently selected for standardization of extracts.
p-Tyrosol has been shown to be readily and dose-dependently absorbed after an oral dose;6,7 however, pharmacokinetic data on the other adaptogenic compounds found in Rhodiola rosea is unavailable.

Mechanisms of Action

The adaptogenic properties, cardiopulmonary protective effects, and central nervous system activities of Rhodiola rosea have been attributed primarily to its ability to influence levels and activity of biogenic monoamines such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in the cerebral cortex, brain stem, and hypothalamus. It is believed the changes in monoamine levels are due to inhibition of the activity of enzymes responsible for monoamine degradation and facilitation of neurotransmitter transport within the brain.
In addition to these central effects, Rhodiola has been reported to prevent both catecholamine release and subsequent cyclic AMP elevation in the myocardium, and the depletion of adrenal catecholamines induced by acute stress.
Rhodiola’s adaptogenic activity might also be secondary to induction of opioid peptide biosynthesis and through the activation of both central and peripheral opioid receptors.

Dosage

Dosage varies depending upon standardization. For chronic administration, a daily dose of 360-600 mg Rhodiola extract standardized for 1% rosavin, 180-300 mg of an extract standardized for 2% rosavin, or 100-170 mg of an extract standardized for 3.6% rosavin is suggested. Administration is normally begun several weeks prior to a period of expected increased physiological, chemical, or biological stress, and continued throughout the duration of the challenging event or activity. When using Rhodiola rosea as a single dose for acute purposes (e.g., for an exam or athletic competition), the suggested dose is three times the dose used for chronic supplementation. Rhodiola rosea has been administered for periods ranging from as little as one day (acute administration) up to four months. Until more specific information is available, a dosing regimen following the established patterns used with other plant adaptogens - with periodic intervals of abstinence - seems warranted when Rhodiola rosea is being used chronically.

What brand are you using Rosie since you know form use that it's effective.

AND - how many caps/day

Rhodiola Rosea is in my IGF-2 - one of the reasons why I love this product.

Isn't rhodiola mainly used for adrenal fatigue?

It can be used for many things, and it can aid with recovery from Adrenal and Chronic Fatigue, yes.

~Rosie~

Just curious here. Is one of the reasons you take it as a constant to prevent you from slipping back into cfs?

No, that is not the reason I use IGF-2. I was using IGF-2 well before I even had my first bout of Chronic or Adrenal fatigue, and have loved IGF-2 since I first used it.

As I mention on Invalid Link Removed:
IGF-2 is IMO very UNDERrated and is my first equal #1 and favourite product ever. IGF-2 assists me in gaining muscle mass whilst simultaneously allowing me to stay relatively lean - usually maintaining 8-10% bodyfat - on ~4,300 cal/day! It is an excellent recomp product, with my strength constantly improving as well. My muscles are noticeably harder when I'm using IGF-2 compared to when I am not. Recovery on IGF-2 is great: Within a few days of using IGF-2 DOMS is completely eliminated, and my sleep is also deeper (especially is used in conjunction with Lipotrophin-PM). IGF-2 is also the ONLY Growth Hormone booster that works WITH my body, and ever since the use of my first bottle, IGF-2 has been a STAPLE in my supplement regime and I hate to be withOUT it!

Ah I see. I actually read that review on nutraplanet, but didn't read that it was written by "rosie" lol. 50 bones is pretty expensive, but 240 tabs should last a decent amount of time. I'm gonna order a bottle and give it a shot after I am done taking this week off.

Hopefully it works as well for me as it does for you :)

lots of interesting info! I came across a rat study that claims RR has estrogenic effects.... Any thoughts?

Some supplements are more expensive than others, and some of them are worth the cost.

Depends on your body mass as to how long a bottle of IGF-2 will last you - there are dosing/timing instructions on the product label.

Do you cycle this product Rosie? And yes I DID read the dosing suggestions on the back of the bottle, but it does not mention anything about cycling off of it.

No - the only time I 'cycle' it is when I finish a bottle and don't have another and have to wait for it to arrive.

For males, I would recommend cycling off after every ~12 weeks, or using for say 5 days on/2 days off or every other day for 2-4 weeks after 8-12 weeks of usage, if they were planning on using it as a staple.
