Real American Hero

the money spent on a press conference could have been spent in any number of better ways, including taking care of kids in familys here that have no where warm to sleep because their parents lost their jobs.

I may sound like a prick here, but it sounds to me like their parents need to get a job setting up press conferences if thats where the money is at.

You would be surprised how easy it is to become homeless, theres a thin line between a single mother making minimum wage and the street, or if your lucky a car, becasue she's stolen or borowed from every family memeber and no one will take you or her in.

How come these guys always jump on the grenade. I've read a dozen storys recently about guys dying by jumping on grenades, or jumped into the line of fire to save a friend. I dont know if i buy it, after the Pat Tillman, and that girl that turned out to be made up storys it seems like one too many "dependable friend with a big heart and a carefree spirit" are getting killed.

Where the news reports that go...He lived life as an a$$hole, F#ck em, and heres tom with the weather. A kid i know from high school is fighting overseas right now and hopefully they never give him a he was a good guy speech, he's killed little kids, f'd his wife in the A untill she bled on their wedding night and more, and no he's not one bad seed, theres wouldnt be abu ghraib and the masacre's in haditha, Jalalabad and mazar among many, many others

Heroism happens over there (seen it personally as a Corpsman (medic). Don't ever doubt it! As for your 2nd paragraph there are ****ed up individuals in the world...everywhere...not just in the military. This sucks, but is by far not everyone in the military. I'll leave it at that because your ignorance is obvious and I'm sure it would only hurt my head to speak with you further.

I said good day

i salute you bro, medic's have the upmost respect in my books.

can you carry your skills as a medic back into civi street - paramedic/doctor maybe?

anyone who serves as a combat medic should have the opportunity to go to medical school and become a doctor if they wanted to and have the govt pay their fees etc for the entire time they are there - hospitals need doctors who truely value someone's life and can work under extreme pressure - just my humble opinion.

So you took the time out of your day to comment on my opinion, which you happen to be wrongly interpreting, and then you wont back up your insults? And now you answer this with good day right? A fez, that 70's show reference right?

I've never said that heroism doesnt happen over there. All i said is that its suspect that i can post another half dozen links with the same, fell on grenade, great man, shrapnel survivor tells story.

Im not trying to say that the kid didnt die.

Im not saying that if he did such a thing he isnt a hero.

Im not saying i dont respect people who serve in the military with honorable intentions.

Im not saying that i know what its like to be ordered to kill someone regardless of your opinion on the matter.

What i am saying is that people in this country, my country, get their information from behind a tattered flag. The patriot act, gimme a break, operation iraqi freedom, sorry we meant that were invading your country then never leaving. Just because someone says it doesnt make it true, especially went it comes to the gov.

Theres more people concerned out there about britney spears hair cut, than whether their being led around like lambs to the slaughter. Gobble gobble on the c@ck of fox news, CNN. There just TV channels, they put storys up to get ratings whether their true or not. The comercials pay the bills, not reality.

And bush coming out with a press conference about this poor kid that killed himself is just like when the biggest story about the tsunami in thailand was this super model that lost her boyfriend.

As sad as this kids death is its irrelevant to whats going on. And merely a distraction from what we should be focusing on.

:welcome:I was a medic in a parachute infantry battallion for 7 years(Army). I'm so glad to not have to hump an aid bag on top of everything else any more. My hat's off to you my friend. Its good to have another "Doc" around this place.

Well after the 600million dollar embassy (biggest in the world) we just built in baghdad, you'll get your wish for sure. Were never leaving there and most people should realize that pretty soon. Its going to be another japan/korea/germany/guam etc

Im an isolationist. F#ck the middle east, they've hated each other longer than theres been written language, were not fixing it in our life time. I would concentrate all resources on OUR people, not everyone elses.

I want to be there not to help them, simply as a "stabilization" in otherwords, you f around we bring in bombs.

Really? Do I detect some socialist values in you? ;)

I think there is an excuse in the world for someone to be homeless, that is unless their house just blew away, burned down, etc

Did you mean I DONT think?

I speak from experience, and 99% of the time its the parents ignorance, im just thinking of the kids, its not their fault, but it becomes their problem.

Im just a proletariat trying to make it in this crazy mixed up world.;)

ROAR! The Socialist war cry: Just think about the poor children?! :frustrate

A bad person is a bad person no matter the circumstances of their death. And i wont bother to get in a dicussion with you about the current state of our foreign and domestic policy.

I wasn't making light of his sacrifice i feel bad for his family, but when you die on the job, even as a police officer, the government doesnt use you as a political pawn. The army is just a job right now, maybe at one time it was an altruistic venture, but it has become a substitute for college, and a catch all for people who dont know what else to do.

I used to work at a plant with 2 USMC and i quizzed them to no end about there service, these are their opinions too. They left the army with no skills, 1 guy was PTSD, and they were making $10 an hour.

The military is not just substitute for college, and a catch all for people who don't know what else to do. There may be people who do use it as that, but that does not make it to be such. I joined knowing what I was getting into, have learned great skills (I guarantee if your hurt or sick you want me by your side; not bragging, just simply stating there are many alive because of the skills I have been taught), achieved a college education courtesy of the military's expense. I had many options as do many others, but we chose this as a career just as anyone else chooses their career. I can not speak to know the life and career moves of your two friends, but there are many skills you gain from the military and many resources available to them. You just have to use them. The marines particularly are masters at small unit leadership and there are numerous jobs/companies that hire them solely for their leadership abilities besides being able to transition into great jobs such as various law enforcement agencies from local police to border patrol to the FBI. In fact there are job fairs open only to active duty and prior military.

I think the biggest problem of your posts is that you generalize and assume far to much.

Its a lot harder to make that choice when 7 year olds are shooting at you with AK47s and those roads are covered in IEDs.

All I am saying FP, is that its easy to judge others from thousands of miles away in the comfort of your living room, not looking your own mortality in the face.

This war has blurred the line between combatants and non-combatants. Woman and children are actively engaging US Soldiers with rifles and improvised explosive devices. When that happens kids will die.

True.

He should try reading Lone Survivor about the Seal Team in Afghanistan. Maybe it would shed some light on such situations.
