I understand the goals and principles of bulking, cutting, lean bulk,..etc, but not quite sure what a recomp is....is it something u do after a bulk or cut, or is it kinds in the middle of these two as far as goals are concerned.

I believe that the term recomping was first coined by avant labs ( i feel like i read that somewhere)... I'd say its a slow, yet steady, body transformation where your goal is to both lose body fat and gain lean muscle.

that's just my definition... interested to hear if others object.

thats what i thought it meant, kinda a combo of a cut and bulk, although its obviously impossible to gain and lose weight, but i was thinking losing fat and gaining muscle

yep. If you were looking for supplements to help with recomping I'd suggest a good nutrient repartioner, those have always helped me out the most during an effort to recomp.

Outcomes of specific body goals

Cut - lose fat.
Bulk - gain muscle mass.
RECOMP - gain muscle mass with little or minimal fat gains, OR a fat loss.

Recomp can be done at any time - I personally do it ALL the time (well, it's what my body ends up doing, regardless). However, it is a far slower process than outright bulking or cutting, and requires excellent manipulation of your NUTRITION, and is generally only achieved by very experienced trainees who know what they're doing, or unintentionally by newbies who make drastic changes by starting to train or change their nutrition.

It's possible to lose fat and gain muscle mass, yes. It's not easy though, and most people just do the straight bulk and then cut and so on. I personally do not see the point in doing a traditional bulk and then cut - IMO, it's better to stay lean and gain mass, but that's just me.

Im always Recomping. I never bulk..I rather slowly get muscle gain with min fat gain than getting mass with fat gain..To me is a waste of time..I have patients so always recomp and sometimes when i need ill cut for a month tops.

Theres no real time you must do a recomp, however some poeple do it right after a cut so they dont put fat on too quickly or even after a bulk to kinda transfer into a cut.

I actually like the idea of recomping or very similarly, lean-bulking. Ive done the all out bulks and while you definitly put on muscle quicker, i think recomping gives the physique a much more refined look while adding muscle at a slower rate.
