Question regarding nitrate vasodilation

Is it possible that combining my PWO along with nitrates can cause too much smooth muscle relaxation, and thus cause my body to over-compensate and re-constrict the blood vessels? It seems that when I take my pwo supps, I dont get much of a pump anymore...In fact, I look more pumped up after about 90 minutes after eating my pre-workout meal..But when I take my hemavol + nitrates, it looks + feels like I have less of a pump.. Is this a BP drop? Kind of weird..I'd like to theorize the science behind it.
 
Nitrates do undergo tolerance over time.

Neurohormonal activation of vasoconstrictor signals and intravascular volume expansion constitute early counter-regulatory responses (pseudotolerance), whereas long-term treatment induces intrinsic vascular changes, eg, a loss of nitrovasodilator-responsiveness (vascular tolerance). This is caused by increased vascular superoxide production and a supersensitivity to vasoconstrictors secondary to a tonic activation of protein kinase C. NADPH oxidase(s) and uncoupled endothelial nitric oxide synthase have been proposed as superoxide sources. Superoxide and vascular NO rapidly form peroxynitrite, which aggravates tolerance by promoting NO synthase uncoupling and inhibition of soluble guanylyl cyclase and prostacyclin synthase.

More acutely, the body will respond via baroreceptor activation which results in positive chronotropy i.e. your heart rate increases.

Ultimately, nitrate tolerance is best combated with vitamin C and NAC - which is why they were included in C-Bol.

This oxidative stress concept may explain why radical scavengers and substances, which reduce oxidative stress indirectly, are able to relieve tolerance and endothelial dysfunction.

Hey Iron thanks for the reply..APS' Creatine Nitrate has Vitamin C in it, and I also supplement Vit. C independently for extra anti-oxidation benefit..It seems that when I down my pwo supps, the appearance of vasodilation is borderlined significantly reduced..Perhaps that, or the water I've consumed is not being pulled into the intracellular space..It's kind of intriguing, yet frustrating at the same time when you consider the $ these products cost.
 
I agree with ironfist; however, even in the case of nitrate tolerance, skeletal muscle vasodilation should still occur during exercise...and vasoconstriction certainly should not be occurring with nitrate ingestion. Skeletal muscle bloodflow is largely auto-regulated (metabolic theory) and is also secondarily driven by the "skeletal muscle pump" (the physical movement of blood via repeated isotonic contractions).

I also don't think autonomic "overcompensation," as you alluded to in your OP, could cause this issue.

If I had to wager a guess, I'd say part-diet, part-training tempo/rep scheme, and part-placebo

Have you lowered your carbohydrate / water / sodium intake recently?
 
I've never heard of vasoconstriction like you're mentioning, but have heard of a tolerance developing with time.

You should still experience nice results with your Hemavol + nitrates. Others have given you better answers than I could in this thread, so be sure to thank them for that.

Also keep your eye out for iForce Potassium Nitrate. Vitamin C will be included in the formula for your convenience, 120 caps for $13-$17 depending on the retailer/e-tailer.

funny you mention this. i lowered carbs and sodium about 2 weeks ago, shortly after i lost my normal workout "pumps"......
 
So today is a rest day for me. I had my breakfast (same as pwo meal) and took my usual fistful of vitamins. For some reason, I feel a lot more pumped than on the days that I do go to the gym.. This is rather puzzling.. Only thing I can think of is that I haven't had much water since last night/this morning..No pwo supps or anything today..Or the fact that I slept in 2 more hours than workout days.

Could be the sleep... all depends on how much your normally get I suppose.

Did you bump up your carbs and sodium the day prior? Could be leading to your pump
 
I take spinach powder at the equivalent of 180g of fresh spinach. as I understand it proteins are produces as a result that pertain to calcium regulation. as I have a ton of calcium in my diet via protein shakes, milk, and the spinach I am getting awesome muscle contractions. there is a very intense muscle hardening effect here. what I getting at is, could lowered calcium result in non-responsiveness to nitrate? I ordered some sodium nitrate. ive never had nitrate alone from food, so I have no idea what to expect. I know that I am a very positive responder to pump products
