You are looking at the filler/cheap beef jerky's if that's the case and other ingredients in it. Are you sure you don't mean corn syrup? I have never heard of someone using corn protein in a product. You just need to look at pure beef jerky as it's pure lean beef and some salt only basically. 1oz. should have a good 8-12 grams of protein depending on the cuts they use.
Better is subjective you are talking about a food protein vs. a liquid whey or the like and a processed drink. Personally real food is always better IMO but it's not like a protein shake can't fit the bill at times too just again watch the sugar on an RTD drink from a gas station however most carry muscle milk or similar now days which are fine.
