Quest for Success vol#2 - Pumpin to the Ahhhnold

Looking big man. Just a thought, maybe look to getting some shorter shorts. I'm definately not saying 1970s NBA shorty shorts. The ones in that picture kinda give the illusion of you looking too short. I've noticed that if my shorts go past my knees then they can become a hinderance during leg exercises like squats and deads.

I honestly can't say anything though since I still have the same workout shorts from 2001...

Yeah you're totally right....Those are actually one of the only two pairs I have that are long like that. Most are right around knee level if not a bit shorter. Also helps with tennis ;)
 
Shirts are worse though. My Get Diesel shirt is too small now and it screws up my lifting, my neck keeps rubbing and I can't focus. That's the last time I get a large.

Yeah large's always shrink like mad when you wash a few times. I usually wear a large in normal conditions. A lot of my workout shirts are sleeveless...so I barely notice anyway.

Thanks brother! Thats really where i'm at right now...just gettin ready to kill it again. Taking another day or two to let my arm heal up and then it's back to some full body workouts with weight. I've been doing all bodyweight work for days now to try and keep my body limber while being hurt.
 
February 13th 2009 - Friday the 13th!

Other than fighting with my girlfriend the day before Valentine's day...i'd have to say today was really productive. I also managed to start a fight with my half siblings over my father's estate. I feel like they have begun to give me the cold shoulder and started a small alliance against me which I don't care much for. I can be a very friendly person...and I guess that can be misconstrued as me being weak. If you ever want to find out the level of my weakness....I dare you to shove me. I felt like I was shoved today....and I came back swinging. Now this situation will probably be uglier than it should be....but I want to do what is best for my father's estate and I want to do what he wanted to have done. If it was his wishes when he was alive...then I will surely 100% fight for them to get carried out since he cannot see that happen himself now. I am a man with a mission...and unlike many before me...I cannot be stopped when I am motivated.

And that's all she wrote for today. Worked out the body real well...and also managed to get a whole bunch of errands done today. Filled out some important paperwork, made some important calls, and ate some delicious (healthy) food. Other than the fact that I made my girlfriend mad and she didn't talk to me all day...it was solid. I should be back to weight workout's within 2-3 days time. The arm is starting to feel much better with the rehab work i've been doing alongside the bodyweight work. I feel fresh...and I want more.

I do how I was taught. My father was a good man. Strong willed, opinionated, intelligent, and most of all...noble. I took most of what I know about being a "man" from him...and I plan to carry that on for the rest of my life. I just hope that if I have a son, that I can teach him the same and hope that his morals are set high enough that he wishes to carry on the same way.

You're totally right about that...I just kind of used son as an example because I tend to view the man having a different morale makeup than a woman. No better or worse...just different in instinct.

I hope it goes well too....it doesn't look like it though. She's really not happy with me right now :(

Found out today that the apartment we were sure we were going to land...has about 97% fell through so now it's back to the drawing board. My girlfriend is still mad at me though so that will prove to be a complicated measure to work around. I hope she forgives me soon...I feel awful and I really miss her.

haha I somehow don't see that working. Although I would really enjoy already having some friends in the area in you and Matt...my girlfriend really wants to keep the babies near her parents...which I can understand and respect. If my father was still alive, i'd probably feel the same way.

For the longest time i've wanted to move South. I lived in Florida for almost a year and really loved it....but now until we're a little older, that just seems like a pipe dream.

It's unfortunate to see how many children are poorly brought up by their fathers. I'm very happy you have a sense of knowledge on parenting, CTD, and you too Christine.

It's pathetic to see what some parents teach their children...or don't teach them. However you want to look at it.
 
I totally agree. I've seen far too many people (sadly some i'm related to) teach their children "the wrong path" or give them ideas and actions that aren't right for a child of any age that is in a development stage.

I swore I would never be that kind of parent...and I don't intend to be.
 
Sunday February 15, 2009 - The rest of the day

This is the addition to this morning's post. I will not be listing what I did in the AM as fasted work again here. Tonight's workout was INTENSE!!! There is no other way to put it. I think it has to do with a few major factors.

1. I tried a different workout with some circuits
2. I began use of Carnage again
3. my girlfriend and I are on decent terms again

I think she's still mad at me....but at least she's talking to me in a civil manner. We took the baby to McDonald's (oh god...its not what you think) to play at the playplace. She doesn't have enough interaction with other kids and the twins aren't here yet...so while it's too cold for the park...we have to deal with McD's. NO...we DO NOT eat there.

I was still going a little light with the weight to make sure my form was on point since my injury is just fully healed as of this morning....but everything felt great. Expect an increase in all weight the next time this circuit is performed. It felt awesome...I was sweating a ton...my muscles feel great...and yeah, thats about it.
 
Heavy Compound Movement Circuits work wonders for me when trying to lose fat and preserve lbm.

Trust me...you haven't seen the last of this kind of work from me. I was really pumped tonight. My muscles felt fantastic and I was just on a tear. Not so much a rage feeling...but definitely something amping me up. I was tearing through and I knew it...and I just kept wanting more. Felt like I was on a strong T Booster or something, haha
 
how much weight do you have laying around the house ct?
When you do barbell exercises it seems like you stop around 135 is this because you dont have any more weight or are you holding back?

I posted earlier about how I am finally recovered from the injury I was facing which is why I went light today.

I moved all of my stuff downstairs since the passing of my father...but prior to that I lifted upstairs, unspotted, on weak floors. That was my reason for never going much heavier back then. Even then, upstairs, my DL's were in the 250 range.

ahh ok. Just wondering because I recall you benching 135 for sets of 10 and not going higher. Just wanted to make sure you had enough weight laying around. how do you like the new set up downstairs?

just keep going strong bud. we are all rooting for you. Ever thought of switching up your training styles and do some strength training? I think you would be a beast if you upped your weight and dropped your reps a little.

Im not really looking to get any bigger right now. I was thinking about it for a while...but it wouldn't really be very conducive towards tennis at all....or mostly anything i'm really trying to do.
 
Monday February 16, 2009 - We came to Play

I had another session with my AFL2 hopeful tonight so I had to keep the weight fairly low again while he is still learning proper form on all of the lifts through the Renegade wheel of conditioning. He has already shown a solid increase in strength and speed on field since we began working together even with some of the lighter weight, so I will increase accordingly with his tryout schedule. A very good session tonight that we blasted through...and I am already feeling the aftermath, haha. I will be perfectly fine...just slightly sore instantly after. A lot of muscles hit last night, were hit again tonight.

Tuesday February 17, 2009 - Sore...and awesome.

Did some doubling up today. In the morning I got together with one of my buddies and hit some tennis for about 1.5 hours. warmup's for about an hour and I was up the first set 4-1 when he had to get going. It felt good to be on court and I was hoping to hit a bit longer....but i'd take anything at this point! Later on at night I had another session with my AFL2 hopeful with some upper body work. He is really enjoying the splits I have him working on...which is nice, because he'll do them and like it whether he wants to or not :shock:

Solid upper body workout after 2 solid full body days in a row. Feeling really good lately and I hope it stays that way. I might do some bodyweight stuff or some yoga...but otherwise, i'm taking tomorrow off. I'm fairly sore in most areas of my body at this point from being so inactive for the month surrounding my father's passing....so the day off will be a nice rest!

My arm began to hurt a bit towards the end of today...but I still don't think it's anything serious. I think it's a minor tweak that I just need to work out. No issues :)

Yeah i've missed really getting into it...and lately it's been nice. We are looking to be moving in the weekend of the 1st though...and that will more than likely put a halt on a lot of this. I won't have any room at this place for my weights or benches....so I have to store them at my girlfriend's parent's house until we get a place big enough.

Oh don't get me wrong...I want to finally move in together more than anything. It's just going to be hard to adjust without weights. I will bring my KB's, jumpropes, and resistance bands...but other than those and bodyweight stuff...I may suffer for a few months.

Wednesday February 18, 2009 - Day off? I think not!

Well today was a scheduled day off for me. I had decided last night that my body could use a rest and I would take today to get that rest. THEN....my girlfriend reminded me that it was her father's birthday. Since I am not the kind of person to turn down a "celebration" on someone's special day...I strayed from my diet today. Normally I would have kept the off day and realized that I messed up on nutrition and moved on to tomorrow. Instead my mind got working and I decided that a bodyweight session tonight could only get me loose and ready for a full body/leg shout out tomorrow. Thus the following..
