protein supercompensation

I have run 2 cycles of the CKD diet and know all about the glycogen depletion/supercompensation cycles. I was wondering if the same principles could apply to protein. For example you would do a 1 or 2 day protein depletion while continuing to workout, followed by 2 days of supercompensation getting 2+g protein/lb per day. Wouldnt this make your body hold onto the protein more effeciently and use it solely for muscle repair???

No. Protein is needed for many other bodily functions BEFORE it gets used for muscle synthesis. Your immune system essentially relies on proteins. When people die of starvation, its usually from loss of proteins in the body. You don't store protein like you do glycogen so you in essence can't supersaturate your muscles with protein by starving first. It just doesn't work that way.

well said...

even if you went 2 days without protein there would still be adequate protein for other cellular requirements. the workouts would deplete the protein in your muscles then the damaged muscle once depleted of protein would in theory super-absorb the protein once reintroduced to the body mostly in the damaged muscles and for cellular function.

Incorrect.

You have to start back and build the protein again the same way you built it in the first place.

there are bottlenecks on rates of protein synthesis, which relies mainly on available circulating amino acid pools. As mentioned above, muscle IS the primary storage site for protein used for other functions.

so what your recomending is going catabolic for two days?...yeah...great way to grow...your "theory" doesnt pan out...why dont you try this and log it so we can all see how big you get...lol
