protein question.

Id like to consider myself pretty knowledgable on supplements and lifting but this question has stumped me. in the past i ussually just took muscle milk because i was bulking. now im trying to cut and mm isnt good for it. But my question is that what make the more exspensive protein better than the body fortress protein at wal-mart. i started using it since i had a tub from a long time ago and it has 54 grams of protein in every serving. what makes the more exspensive protein like ON better than this?

Look at the purity not amount of protein; 24g protein/30g scoop is 80%. The higher the better, isolates can get up into the low 90s. WPC should be good enough; I use Invalid Link Removed on my oats, or Choc PB Cup in a dessert-style shake. The blend is cheap, great flavours, and low in carbs/fats.

The Body Fortress stuff isn't really terrible, but compared to ON Whey, it tastes terrible, has a lower-quality purity (concentrate contains more lactose and fat), and it doesn't contain digestive enzymes (AFAIK) or peptides (partially-digested whey). But it does contain creatine, which is nice, though I don't think it's much.

Overall whey is very good protein when it comes to the BCAA profile, so while ON's is better, if the taste doesn't repulse you, I'd go ahead and at least finish up the Body Fortress tub. The extra fat and lactose/carbs is like 30 calories or so (compared to a pure isolate), so that's not much, either.
