Protein during workout?

Hey guys,
I use scivation xtend amino acids to drink while im working out. it seems to give me a bit of energy and it is refreshing. I am concerned tho because i see big guys drinking protein shakes during their workouts. i usually eat about an hour and a half before i go to the gym and then again immediately after i get home. I am about to start a bulking phase soon. should i start drinking a protein shake during my workout instead of my aminos? if so, what type of protein shake?

Drinking Xtend durring your work out is plenty helpful. Focus on your workout while at the gym, worry about bulking while you're not at the gym.
 
Not a good idea. For simplicity, protein only contributes 2-5% of your total energy. It's not a significant source for energy. With glycogen depletion and prolonged exercise it can drift towards 15%. Also, if you ingested protein blood would be taken from active skeletal muscles to digestive viscera for digestion decreasing performance. Not to mention if it contains sodium then water would follow suit.
