Pre workout cycling

This is a controversial topic that I still don't know the answer to. Is pre workout cycling bull ****? I take my pre workout 4-5 times a week and 2-3 of those days I take straight up caffeine with no other stimulant. I've been on pre workout for about 8-9 weeks and am wondering if I should cycle off. I hear it's bad for your adrenal glands, so should I cycle off my pre workout and if so how long do you recommend?
Thanks guys!

When it comes to this topic I believe to each their own. If you no longer feel the effects of your proleowrkout that means you're building up a tolerance aka time to take a stim break

Agreed.
This isn't something any one person can answer, except you.

Listen to your body.

Depends entirely on the pre-workout and what it contains.

In the case of stimulants and some herbals, many have very scarce long term safety data - if any at all - and so recommending long term continuous use, is, well, potentially a dangerous prospect. For some, there may lie potential with toxic 'build-up' with long term use, or down regulation of certain transporters or receptor sites which over time decreases the compounds effectiveness.

If it's just caffeine, you can get away with long term prolonged use but potentially have issue gaining the same stim effect over the duration - but there is no hard and fast rule because ingredients will differ between pre-workouts and as such, so to will their cycling recommendations.

I use a stim heavy pre workout 2-3 times that contains DMBA and picamilon, usually I use it only 2 times a week due to the fast tolerance build up of DMBA. I still feel full effects of it but I upped the dosage by a little. The dose i take is still less than a full serving though

I've been going back and forth with this as well ForceOfNature I am going to link you to an informative thread and give you my thoughts after thinking about this for quite some time last week.

I personally do not consume any other caffeine or stimulants other than what is in a pre workout. Depending on the day, I will go with something lower stim and other days higher stim. So I get anywhere from 150mg-450 caffeine 6 days a week. I do drink a cup of green tea (1 packet) per day as well, but I do not count that in my daily caffeine intake.

During stim breaks, I do not drag in the gym, but I don't really use them to get stimmed out of my mind either. People drink several cups of coffee per day and still see the effects from the caffeine despite drinking several cup of coffee per day for years. I think it takes a lot for one to not feel the effects of caffeine. Also, I think some of it comes down to motivation to. Often, people take a pre to help them get to the gym. I love training and make it a part of my routine, so I do not need caffeine to get me into training mode.

I think the benefits that caffeine has on performance is too great to not use it. You can find various articles about this, here is another one.

In short, I would cycle stimmed pre workouts. If you're going in for a heavy bench or other day which you need your focus to be top notch, then go with a higher stimmed product. If you are going in for some hypertrophy work, go with a lower stim.

I'd take a two week stim break. That should do the trick. I usually try to always take some breaks or i will build up a tolerance.

I don't really cycle pre workouts only change them up here and there

I really should drop them all together. I only have one coffee every day but still i worry about the bp issues that can come from all the stim use over the years

After I finish conquer unleashed I am taking a huge break. I know heaps of people that have been taking pre for years with no issues so as said before it all depends on your body

I cycle off of pre workouts every now and again. I know that after I finished a bottle of Mesomorph I needed a bit of a break so I took one and replaced my stim with a stim free preworkout

Did I need to do it? I really do not know. But I felt like my body needed a rest from all of the stims

I've tried stim breaks for various lengths over the years, and they don't seem to have any negligible impact on me one way or the other. I don't get caffeine withdrawal headaches when I go stim free (they're my only real source of caffeine during the day. only typically have a cup of coffee if we go out to eat on the rare sunday morning).

I take pre's of various caffeine amounts 4-5 times per week and haven't felt any sort of tolerance build up either.

Granted, each person is highly individualistic. I could drink a large starbucks frappaccino while studying late at night in college, and then go right to sleep afterwards. It all depends on your own physiology and how your body responds.

If you're starting to 2 and 3-scoop a pre, you probably do need a stim break.

This all depends on you. I never cycled in the past. I usually switch between stim and non stimmed when I use them. Basically becomes your call.

Thanks guys! This was very helpful, as for my tolerance I have yet to go over the recommended dosage, for my high stim pre I'm a little bit below the recommended dose so I don't think I need to cycle off just yet but I'm probably gonna go low stim more often now.

Toxicity hey. That does not sound great at all
