Power lifters. Thoughts on Blaha?

I've been messing with hook grip for 6 months. Its cool. I'm 6 foot 2 so I need that extra inch.
I got a bunch more I want to run down but so much time was wasted today.
Maybe next time I watch his video ill see what advice I think is good and post it on here and see what you guys think

You can get the extra ROM with mixed grip as well you just need to train yourself to hold it in your fingers and not in your palm

At a max? That's some serious training!
Seems like the bar would be moving and you would get red lighted. Hook grip that sh1t is locked.

So giving bad advice about training chest, and what is necessary to have a strong chest and good bench press doesn't involve "moving weight?" Is the bench press not "moving weight?" He gave bad advice about chest/benching. That's "moving weight."

I'm not strong enough for my size to talk? What are Blaha's max lifts and what did he weigh when he did them? I've never even trained for powerlifting and I've hit 310lbs on bench press (not paused) at a bodyweight of 165lbs. Furthermore, how much I lift has nothing to do with my ability to say his advice is sh*t. Facts are facts, regardless of who says them. He gave bad advice about building chest/bench strength. That's related to "moving weight" and powerlifting, therefore it is an example of him giving bad powerlifting advice. Logic is hard, I know.

Also, dieting isn't relevant do powerlifiting? Because powerlifters never have do diet, right? Also, surely you know that "dieting" doesn't inherently mean cutting, but a meal plan. So bulking, recomping, cutting, etc. would all be diets, and diets have a MAJOR role in ANY lifting goals, be it powerlifting, bodybuilding, crossfit, etc.

Well, if you do it 3 times, you get with every rep at least twice into a neutral position where stress is less on the joints, right?

Maybe. Like I said I'm not sure about the paused.
All I know is paused are harder. So it conceivable that paused reps could build strength better. The "better for older people" I'm not co-signing that.

Harder on joints too, I bet, as short reps = short stress on joints. Also, 3 reps does not equal 3 sec. stress on joints -but a 3sec. hold under load does.

Look, it doesn't matter that you found one apparently true argument in his 357 vids. Or does it? :)

I'm 100% behind you on this. You must hate Jason more than I do -and are arguing with the wrong guy ( cgkone ). He only stated that he likes some of Jasons power lifter advise -not the guy himself. We both know that Jason only googles his own advise, no real life experience there (look at him).

At this point I don't even care if you have any thoughts about a hook grip or pause reps doesn't even matter anymore. Harry Grandpa and Alex both have been able to talk about powerlifting you still haven't. so I'm cool off you. Your a drag.

What really did it for me is that he has, on multiple occasions, used his online following/influence to try to hurt other people's livelihoods (like the owner of the gym he went to, and Layne's career/research), and, more heinously, that he has explicitly threatened Layne's family. That's insane. He's a piece of s**t. So unless he's giving advice that literally no one else in the world does, and lifting more than anyone else in the world does, why support this delusional, egotistical, a**hat? And on top of it all he HAS given bad lifting/fitness/bench advice, and bad diet advice, and fabricated his entire life story. Why support this twat?

I did. He said that all body part splits are garbage. This is obviously not true, as there are some good powerlifting splits that don't do whole-body every session, are there not? So there's bad powerlifting advice.
 
By the way, its pretty obvious for me that a hook grip for deadlifts is the way to go, unless you attempt a max lift. If you do a reverse grip, you would most likely use always the same hand to do it, probably the hand you have less strength in grip. Over time, it would weaken this hand -because you never used a hook grip with it.
Meaning, you should switch hands for reverse grip often -or do hook grips only.

No Blaha-wisdom needed for that. :)

What do you mean no Blaha-wisdom? Even if someone did think of this before the almighty Blaha, it's only because he used his secret CIA clearance to travel back in time and plant the idea in their heads by whispering it in their ear while they were sleeping. So even if you think you came up with it before Blaha did, it was really Blaha allowing you to think it. Chuck Norris jokes were originally written about Blaha, but they were all so obvious that they didn't need to be said, so they became Chuck Norris jokes. #facts.

Thinking about it, watching Blaha's channel could be useful, as he is the first to present new scientific findings -one should afterwards look it up, knowing the exaggerations of his claims.
I was watching him (for daily cringe) when he mentioned a new study on BCAA's (its worthless), I instantly checked his claim, saving some money on my next purchase.

But he’s often wrong about his science (see diets and Layne). It would be infinitely easier to subscribe to Suppversity, or just check PubMed or JISSN, or any number of other actual legit sources. Not to mention we’ve known that EAAs > BCAAs for YEARS now.

Literally every supplement is worthless and unless you compete in a sport / body building then 250mg of testosterone a week non-stop is all you need to achieve your goals

Fairly confident that will trigger a lot of people!

It'll "trigger" people because it's asinine drivel. There are probably HUNDREDS of peer-reviewed, placebo-controlled, double-blind studies showing that various supplements are not worthless. Is creatine worthless? Citrulline? Nitrates? Ashwagandha? Betaine? Of course none of them are nearly as strong as testosterone, but they're easier to obtain, legal, and allowed in many sports, where testosterone often isn't.

Yes, me. With 50 years of age I have no time to grow on 250mg test/w. I would look decent with 75, damn! :)

ha ha, I believe a good diet should provide you with what you require. I guess the NO pump products are cool, but definitely not required to reach your goals. I have no idea what Ashwagandha is, however creatine can definitely be achieved by diet alone

Of course none of them are required, but they can certainly help. Also, full/ideal creatine saturation is rather difficult to achieve for even most people who eat high protein diets. It's possible, but it's irrevocably not the most efficient or assured way of ensuring creatine saturation. Again, nothing is "necessary," but many things aren't "worthless."

You're right, I did call it "worthless"
It was hyperbole as most people take far too many supplements and are, in my opinion, stepping over $100 notes to pick up quarters :)

Haha. Yeah, I'll agree that most people spending $100+/month on supplement would be better suited spending some of it on more/better food. But if you have your diet nailed down and some money to spend, go for it my man

If whey is a supplement, I can't go without it. At 220lbs I'm sometimes in trouble to fulfill my protein needs.

That's what I was thinking. I'm 245lbs in the morning . some whey protein saves my life. The days I get over 220 grams of protein in food I'm ecstatic.
I fall off my meal prep often.
That's my goal, by 45 have my meal prep locked in

Only time I get all the protein in, is when I eat beans twice a day. My wife hates me when I do (decibel levels of farts while sleeping).
