Glad to hear things are well, And Yep, hes been around for a while. Hes training programs are top notch too.
Yeah, he is one of my favorites online. Funny and extremely smart, plus he isn't all failure, failure, failure like the current craze which has been disproven in several recent study reviews. The current scientific consensus is that volume at a high level of effort getting 1-3 RIR is actually king when it comes to hypertrophy. That methodology works well for me because it keeps me safer in training.

I can probably relate to rp style training more then any other if your goal is bodybuilding. I think dc is great in the first half of your lifting career when your younger and less beat up. Rp is the perfect transition into our older years. But I'm also not saying that either couldn't work at any time. I often try to combine the 2. Maybe on shoulder press I work up to a heavy set of 6-8/,failure or close to failure and rest pause my way to 15-20 reps. Then my next 3 shoulder exercises are 3×12-15 with a couple reps in the tank on each set. I still like to take them to "failure" because if I'm training solo, what I or we perceive as failure is usually 2-3 rir anyways. Give me a spot and il always crank out A few more than I thought I could. So ultimately when I'm telling someone to go to failure I'm really not telling them to go to failure I'm telling them to do what they think is failure because they're probably not even close lol

I've seen some of Dr. Mike's stuff. He's definitely entertaining and pretty knowledgeable with a pretty big following. Do either of you guys follow Paul Carter (liftrunbang)? They kind of butted heads a bit.

I look a bunch of these different fitness influencers but... eh. Sometimes I feel like people are either trying to recreate the wheel or they're just going with whatever is in style nowadays. Feels like the same thing with all of the different nutrition influencers out there pitching a new diet.

It's very good motivation. Reminds to just cut the BS and focus on what matters

To that end no longer going to let "breaks" worry me so much, yeah sure be consistent as one can with life limits but if I run into challenges like this last week just pick up right where I left off. Used to get bummed out when I would go for long strings and then have a break f*ck up the flow

Tortoise vs hair at this point. And so shoulder day..

Yeah, that is one reason I like training on machines a lot more now that I am older. It greatly reduces injury risk if set up correctly and going to true failure or close is safer and easier because you just stop trying to lift the weight once you can't move the bar concentrically. I definitely have to stop a couple 1-2 reps reps shy of failure for free weight compound movements.

Also the recent studies show that while the single failure rep may be the most productive rep, it is by a miniscule percentage, and the additional volume allowed by doing sets at 2-3 RIR is pretty much always going to be better. Far too much CNS taxing going to failure, the systemic fatigue increases exponentially while the additional gains of actually going to failure are almost immeasurable small. ou can often get several reps or even 1-2 extra sets out of only going to 2-3RIR which increases overall volume and growth far more than what can be acheived on a regular basis going to failure. Failure training is excellent for those who are short on time but if you want the best gains, and have the time the new studies show volume is actually king. I shared a video of this discussion with Dr Mike, and Eric Helms in my old log. They combined over 40 hypertrophy studies to come down to this conclusion. Eric said that it would actually be published shortly after the video release but I am not sure if it has or note it has only been about a 3-4 week now since the video came out.

Honestly, I don't follow Paul Carter because he is one of those guys who hjops from one popular fad thing to the next. He did nothing but keto for a while, then Intermittent Fasting was his rage, and now he is promoting something else as the end all be all.

I trust Dr. Mike because he goes with the science, and what has been proven effective. He is not an influencer but an educator with a youtube channel. Remember he was a professor of this stuff for a long time before he go too busy with RP and stepped down to focus on the business. he has his doctorate in this and has worked with so many more people than most ever dream of. He knows his stuff and likes to admit when he learned something new and was wrong about something previously believed. That type of humility is something I prefer in someone I see as a mentor or guide.

Meh... I think this is an erroneous thought process for anyone wanting to make progress. it is not like the tortoise and the hair because the tortous never stopped. He didn't take breaks, he didn't take a nap. That is why he won, slow and steady consistent effort the whole race. The hare is the one that took breaks and lost in the end. You are better off doing something. anything even a 15 minute calisthenics circuit first thing in the morning. Don't break the habit of doing, and don't let yourself backslide. It takes like 6-8 hard working sets a week to make things grow well, but 2-3 hard sets a week to maintain it. Just do what it take to maintain if nothing else and your progress will increase a lot more over time even when you can't do what you want to, as long as you are dong what you can do. You can get up15-20 minutes earlier every day to make that happen if it is a priority for you.

Interesting. I've only seen Paul Carter discuss hypertrophy training and nothing about diet, although I've admittedly only come across him recently. He does cite studies but it does feel like he is being fed the information and reading it from a teleprompter like it's not his own words.

I've seen some stuff with Dr Mike, who I like and find entertaining. However, I also feel he is a bit hyperbolic, especially when it comes to discussing AAS.

I'm always interested in seeing if there is anything new I can do to improve, however over the past 20+ years, I've gotten tired of the science going back and forth. You can only change the underlying fundamentals of your diet and training so many times until you finally call BS on the whole thing.... and I guess that's kind of how I feel in a nutshell. Train hard and eat good. The rest of it just fill in the way you want. At least that's my philosophy.

@Stacks = You know what I take that back. I was thinking of another guy altogether. Black Bald guy, real aesthetic and all over the place on youtube and facebook. Also all over the place on whatever is the current fad that will bring him traffic. not that I blame him for going after that bag. I can't think of his name but it is similar enough that I got them confused. My apologies. I didn't realize he was the Lift Run Bang guy. I am not super familiar but will give him a follow and check him out.

Yeah, I don't look to Dr Mike for gear information. He makes it obvious he is not a specialist in it. Sure he does them and knows his body and all but he is not a specialist. Broderick Chavez, Vigorous Steve, and Joe Jeffries are who I check out for that stuff most of the time. Anyone else you recommend for more of the Safe Use Focus?

I really can't recommend anyone as I don't follow these guys much. I recall seeing some kids on social media promoting gear and acting as trainers, basically encouraging younger kids to use gear "safely." It just puts me off to the entire thing. I know there are some good guys out there with good information though, so I probably should spending some time sifting through them.

Wow just getting caught up, great discussion with @Smont and @MrKleen73 and Stacks too.

💯 That the push failure+ failure and all HIIT over focus has been disproven. Yeah it's seems the science has come full circle but we at least know what works and what is doable.

Just posting last Friday short workout (kids came home, swim lessons and basketball after). This week is work Travel SNAFU this week so going to shower and have a long gym session and post that later today.

Alrighty got another one in today whilst everyone is flying out RE+.

Finally a solid chest and triceps pump, unlock the upper spine. Feels great. Props to Pump addict and Triton from Apex helping old dog get moving today. Extra reps from that Triton.

Still here work trip and family stuff took precedent.

So whole not logged I've been cycling, got the kids training wheel off and man what a great cardio and anti depressant..

All those squats and knees over Toes paying off as I can enjoy a solid road bike session again. Getting my cardio and mind right, dropping some phat.

Once I predict after Halloween I'll be able to regular sessions logged again in the gym but needed to keep working on spine and knees and overall athletic mobility abit still.

Side note - WTF I went to get my cialis prescription today and Blue Cross doesn't cover it, suddenly $1200 a bottle. Crazy. Insurance and drug link needs broken.

All insurance needs to regulated as non for profit such that there isn't giant corporate motivation to raise rates forever and never cover a damn thing.. what a racket to be required by law.

Looks like even with a good corporate job and insurance I still need GoodRX and ordering from UGL who are providing services Urologist and sports medicine should for all...grr.
.

Gym update. Mainly been cycling daily a few times a day getting addicted to the cycling /runner high and really I think this could be 90 of the lower body and cardio I need just cycling a few times per week whilst strength training for all else.

You have built quite the set up, so are you doing any bike sprints to help with hypertrophy? My quads respond really well to bike sprints. Huge massive pumps, and they are fun to do also.

Hey Kleen, thanks brother for hitting me back. Yep been enjoying longer and more challenging bike sessions and I'm addicted to daily cycling and love quad workout and pumps, feels like it's doing a world of good for lower back and cardio health too. Way better than any indoor bike those always have bad ergos unless you spend ungodly $. Real bike in sun travel = worlds best anti depressant.

So that's the thing besides getting career realigned from earlier in the blog here.. I've almost got my spines issues and energy under control too.. Did a lot of core and back mobility work while taking time off gym.. and will be doing a lot more Cycling + Freak Athlete nord-GHD bench + now adding weights train again soon.

Given I've been out of gym for awhile.. just doing more outdoor cycling and basketball stuff and with kids (they're to getting their first big-kids bikes this Xmas too) I just fell back into happy athlete mode. And biking restored my jump at 45 (can grab 10' rim whole hand again).

The career change kept the house and family going but was like a -$30k salary hit from previous job and so whole I still earn decent... Got a couple years to pay down from the big move across US, new house build, building up young family, some midlife medical here and all that stuff... racked up some bills so... Need to be lean until I can get fun money again and lift and eat well plus shakes (no big $ mass gain cycles until after next tax return and bonus season).

Also I'll post a pic, but I have a select cabinet or PEDs now and really all I use is TRT with some light EQ or NPP therapeutically, blood work is dialed in and no sides..

Before i turn 50 (next 5 years) I want to use up all cabinet of MSten, Mecha, RAD-140, and classic DMZ even and other notables. Just 2-3 good cycles a year. Tapering to just TRT and other lighter aides over the years.

I am now 197lbs and steady weight on baseline 100mg Test Cyp per week, which is GREAT considering when I started I was a skinny fat 165-170lbs a few years back when I was just having the kids (given my ups/downs align the way). If I could be lean 210 lbs and quality by age 50 or just improve what I am at 200-205lbs for higher quality that's be great too.

These are "restarting things soon photos" and stats here.

How's life been treating ya?

Looking fit and healthy. You can tell you have kept yourself active. Now time to add a lil focus to the ol physique, and see where things shake out. I could see you being pretty happy with your current weight but about 4-5% leaner. Something you can do easily with the tools you have available mixed with a solid nutrition plan. It is good you are restarting with nice solid base!

That's the plan! Should get promoted Director > Sr. Director of engineering and then after tax/bonus in spring should be able to afford time and to do some moderate and build up & cuts runs...

Biking was the missing key. The best way to drop weight. HECK improve my jump I can grab 10' rim again (not bad for 45).

Losing the excess was bit easier than I thought. I hated other cardio (no longer enjoy running and knees issues) and dieting sounded horrid, but luckily I think just trimming existing diet and and upping water + more cycling I no longer have a fear of cutting after a bulk with the remaining PEDs I have. Cycling gets you to see scenic things and saves your knees natural cardio + antidepressant.

I do plan on finally getting a YouTube just to post and track progression on freak Athlete nord-GHD bench. That thing saving my spine and lower back.

I have off work tomorrow maybe I can start getting some lifts in Over the holidays and build up

Cheers!

Also anyone here goto urologist and notice then BCBS PPO specialist copays went through the roof this year? $40 > $120 and I have a good company plan. Also WTF they stopped covering Tadalafil too. $1200 for a bottle of cialis at CVS. All because I had insurance and it was not covered, such a scam.

I'm glad Trumps back in office but sadly I know doing something great like regulating All medical insurance to non profit to limit CEO pocketing all the $ meant to pay medical claims for records profit. Seems like a GIANT CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

Yeah, just get the generic tadalafil from the pharmacy and tell them you will be paying cash. Go somewhere like Kroger and it is much cheaper, then again so is MAResearch. LOL

!!!! $1200?!
It is pretty ridiculous! My insurance does the generic 90 caps every 90 days for $30 which is awesome, but I am pretty sure if I needed I could still go to Kroger and get a month worth of generic pretty reasonable price.

Different pharmacies have different contracts with different suppliers. It's wild how much the pricing can vary. Generic Cialis can be hundreds of dollars at one pharmacy and just a few dollars at another.

I read somewhere about CVS being close to a grand on it and then Walmart having the same for around 30 bucks.

Yup. I was watching a thing where the pharmacist are required to answer you via two different pathways. Once I tell them I have insurance they are no longer allowed to just talk about the cash price. Due to crazy PBM contracts now...

However has I just walked back with a GoodRx or cash discount card it would be like. $30 probably out of pocket. Hell I might try next time.

Generally against over regulation but medical Insurance seems like the classic "market failure" service that has to be regulated to not be self serving and actually pay our and hold money on interest bearing lock boxes for such evenrs.. but then again when social security is a ponzi too, so why would I expect better 😂?

Yup that's the plan so aside from generic who has good deals on Cialis + Oxytocin type mixes?

I think if I say no insurance just a discount cash plan they tell me the real price, if I say blue cross "then uncovered" they give me the PBM contracts insane price.

Just got blood work back, little high on hemocrit so will just keep running the bike and working on core until holidays. Lower back and knees with the rehab on Freak Athlete bench and slant squat board making a good difference. Much less pain and my use of tramadol and naproxen is lessened and only needed when I push myself a bit on some hard activity.

What's weird I seem to also be getting old guy swelling pre arthritis or tendonitis? Can't throw a fastball anymore without some swelling and wicked pain after. Endurance sports are fine lifting fine, but whip of arm motion sports are done for me likely.

Getting the house cleaned up for T-giving if you like a good backyard fire pit, Solostove FTW

I have a friend who is convinced insurance should be illegal. I go back and forth on that, but I 100% see his angle.

throwing a baseball is pretty much the worst move we have in sports in terms of least natural movement. I developed a nasty side arm (Adrian Beltre style) that would let me whip even the oversized softballs when I had a tourney team together (I played the hot corner, so being able to throw was... sorta a detriment to holding my spot on the team, lol). accuracy can be harder, but I was talking to my dad about it (62), who is looking to get back into a mens league this year as well and he said the same thing.

Yeah I would say stick to whipping your hair back and forth but... It is too late for that now too.

Happy super belated New Year Gents!

Anyone else notice BCBS doesn't cover Cialis in 2025? The "With Insurance" price went from $25 for 30x20mg to a whopping $1200.

I was too shocked to ask for the Out of pocket (without insurance price) probably $60 or so..

I still have leftover Supreme Labs 10mg Tada drive and seems to be good quality. Anyone else use it? Or know of better deals once I run through this?

Tada Drive - 10mg Capsules (60 Count) - Supreme Labs USA https://search.app/bDYdN2vewvfJbxHs7

? Better options these days?

It's been WAY Too long. I rebuild the gym adter 2 years... Health, house, career, and marriage issues came first. But now time to rejoin.

I'm 45 and I am done with PED by 50 to I think, as right now super lean at 195lbs when bulked last on prior logs here I got up to 225lbs.

Basically I started here skinny, lanky tall and even a little fat 6'2" under 165lbs some years back like 2016. Been a sporadic cyclic logger here on/off in 1-2 years spurts. Life stability.

I'm eating lean daily and cycling and taking care of landscape work, so I netted the +30 lbs from logs on here gained long term weight and I look better naked lean.

Now I'm just going for strength, flexibility and yes some hypertrophy but quality and athletic matters more now.

My goals have shifted, no stage goals although I admire guys like Kleen... That's ok, so I will rejoin and start a new log here. Might move this to new log, fresh update. I should note I took time off to just play basketball and bike with kids and use the freak athlete Nordic GHD. Needed to fix knees and spine before trying this again.

Bullbar is another great addition.

Anyway going to kick this party off right - see pics. With the new job I will keep posting and shoot for 2-3 hard lifts per week, but if travel mucks consistent work.. then key for me is to just get at it and not let the interruptions become long break away from the gym.

I love what you got going on here man. I keep thinking about getting back into bikes for the added cardio (because its a hell of a lot more fun than the hamster wheel) but just haven't pulled the trigger or wrapped my head around how that would work yet.

Welcome back. Can't see the images on tapatalk, but definitely a thumbs up to having you on here more regularly and starting up a new log regardless of the goal!

Good to see you back on Sir! Make sure to send me a link if you start a new log!

Hell yeah bikes are awesome. If you look at the life extension sports bikes get you +3-4 years with tennis (any good racquet sport) and swimming being the best at 5 and 7 years respectively.

If you look at my earlier logs I was gaining muscle but whole time I felt like crap (weak legs and core) and I hadn't biked since I was 16 (1996).

BEST natural anti depressant too. Like a runners high but better and less leg pain, more cardio.

Heck it even fixed my jump as the lower back and leg issues were related and I can grab rim.on basketball hoop again, not shabby for 45.

Thanks brother. When you can, it's a dope home gym. Pretty inventive for what can be fit into a car slot. And I got the bikes mounted on swivel wall mounts too.

Absolutely. First sessions in the book today.

This time will be more volume, stretch, and focus on form and get stronger the right way again.

Finally going to use the Bowflex dumbbells sets with the tonal more and bike and the Bull bar. Dead hang pullups and dips and incline pushups on that thing to fix my shoulders.

at 5'9 and change I have no aspirations of going full Spud Webb on the hoops, but I do miss biking lol.

I was shocked that Golf didn't come up as a life extension sport so I had to look it up. looks like +5 years. Usually they tie that in with the games that require community/socializing so I understand why tennis ranks high but I absolutely hate swimming haha, I'll take a bike over a pool for exercise any day of the week.

Alright got Rows and Squatz (20 deg wedge) and pull down session this morning.

Just in time to start using the Freak Athlete and realize even at 45 degree Nordic curl, I can barely do a few reps 🤯. This explains so much always bad right weak hams... Well time for good pain to get some hams gains.

Now hop on the bike for a bit ~30min, I need to get strava-app or similar to log these distances with the weights.

OH - I will be posting a FINAL CABINET SALE. Select top notch PED, can't use them all before I turn 50... So a list shall be posted soon.

@Dustin07 if you need any bike value engineering advice, I can help there. Got done upgrading both basic Hiland Road Bike and Gravity FSX 29'er basic Mountain bike to be equivalent to $2k super bikes but for more like $500-700 and wrench time and a visit to local bikesmith.

I go back and forth between risking it all on another BMX and being the weird 42yr old throwing down with the kids at the skatepark vs a legit downhill jumper. We have some good trails out in my area with black diamond level jumps but my wife is more than a little concerned about the injury potential 😂

@PFlowReborn I have a pretty decent hybrid bike that I haven't ridden in probably 3-4 years, it has the tubeless tires, do you have any idea if I would need to replace them? I don't see any dry rot cracks or anything on them. I have also been considering starting to ride again. Also, any clue about what a tune-up costs now? My gears were clicking / slipping here and there when accelerating hard before I hung it up. So I assume something came out of alignment with the wheel or the gearing system. That or do you know if there is an easy way to fix it?

Was able to pull down some photos, garage gym looks great!
Thanks! I have some shelves and floor coating work coming and get the Xmas tree out of there lol, then it's almost done.

Quick question, are you an Msten Fan?

I really like Predator Nandodrol (colloidal "nano" sized Msten particles suspended in liquid)

Had to be a favorite all time, but expensive AF to order from UK.

The nanoparticle absorption does make it hit and be effective almost immediately. Low, sides, great strength and pump and mood boost.

Any thing like Nandodrol US State side? Anyone making nanoparticle/ colloidal liquid suspension of Msten aside from them?

Today was going to be shoulders day, but opted for a stone and shovel workout before TX heat hardens the ground, reset the pavers around my house.

Tomorrow is shoulders bicep and quads me thinks

its legit work man. that was my whole April, every weekend lol. looking forward to summer weather chilling on the deck.

Why do you sound so interested in MSten again if you are focusing on health now? I would think orals are out of the question if health was the concern. They are bad for gut health, not kind on the iver and really just aren't that enjoyable to be on compared to oils. Especially a designer steroid that wasn't safe enough for big pharma to continue to test for humans. I can see using it if not using oils but not for anyone professing health is there focus now.

You can tell me to hush if you want. Just didn't want you getting on here with us nuts and getting the bug again if your goal is to not get the bug again.

Thanks. Amen to the chilling on the deck, back patio with a new Pizza Oven :)

Got to get back it, new job stress Hiatus. Shoulders was next in rotation, then back to chest and triceps tomorrow.

For Msten and Halo and TheOne, type compounds... no long term interest. They are used periodically, sporadically.. Not going to be an "oral head". The real risk comes from overusing over time. And i know seems counterintuitive. But with my "rusty spine" just the energy and strength boost gets me back into the gym for the next year, then win. At my age, it just helps.

Also, now at 45 years with enough cycles to know which compounds my body agrees with on bloodwork and effectiveness & other sides... these are more are selected "Last Dance" with Mary Jane type cycles before 50th. In my cabinet (pics coming soon as I owe @akboom87 a goodie and you too for being a good friend here), I've got Halo, The One, M-Sten, Trenavar and few others.

I'm balancing goals / mental and physical boost to "make the most" of a few good lifting cycles a year, and moderate lifting and exercise between. So if I accept the 30-day risk of MSten to get my arse up the curve mentally and physically, then I'll go back to mainly oils...

For me, compounds like MSten and Halo other than mild indigestion... the sides are low and the benefits are predictable. With regards to methyl SARMs, or other more harsh methyl-orals I agree here 100% and will be selling some goodies off here shortly. Those are over my risk line for sure now.

I'm on 100mg TRT weekly now for life, still have plenty of oils in the cabinet (EQ, Primo, NPP, etc). if I feel the urge, but I run those more conservatively.

Tell ya what, let me get this Msten + 4andro kickstart 30-day warmup done... And then we can plan some more long-term stuff.

Although I was thinking Test + Trenavar next, again I like that TRT + strength + mild energy advantage.

you're gonna have to share a picture of that! my wife has always wanted a pizza oven. she has done pizza pretty well on the egg but a legit pizza oven would be cool!
That is on deck, sits next to the Blackstone grill that are both in need of serious grill rescue brush.

And snuck in good shoulders workout today!

I like no.longer worrying about big gain cycles, can just focus on strength / ROM and pump and eating IIFYM works well and so much less stress.

More on the diet and early begin of lifting cycle pics for current body progress soon.

Well, for your goals above, probably The One would be a good choice as it's non-methyl if I remember and a good strength base. All that said, I think @Hyde posted something in a thread recently how orals are best used at the end of a cycle given at the start your receptors don't quite need as much androgens.

Not sure I'd do the trenavar mostly due to sides, but since you're already on TRT may not be as much of an issue. For the strength boost that might be fun though.
