PalmFist Bulking Log

So I decided the whole iPhone thing is way overblown. Going with the GS4 next week!

excellent choice;)

iPhone had it's time....

Yes they were innovators but they haven't even changed OSs since 2007. GS4 offers a much better package. Got the wife the Note 2 last week and she loves it; she uses the Spen a lot for creating designs at work. I bought her a Jawbone for her Bluetooth so she doesn't look ridiculous when talking on the phone. Anyways, yeah GS4 on Thursday :)

On a tangent, I wanted to do Deads yesterday but slept in and had work at noon so I didn't make it. Same thing today! Fck it. I'll just have to wing it this week and switch to early AM workouts...

I'm not sure If I want to go Iphone 5 or something else. I'm lazy and don't like learning a new phone.

iPhone is def the king for ease of use. But they just can't hang with the big boys anymore. The GS3 even beats out the iPhone 5. iPhone 5S might compete with this years models but apple is lagging nowadays. I want a bigger screen, storage options, a better camera, customizable software, and a full HD screen in super AMOLED technology

PF is swole as hell! Looking like a beast brother. Be proud-- Swoledier.

Guy at work just got a GS4 couple wks ago. Loves it like a newborn; said it blows his last droid out of the water. It was honestly pretty dope man; what I'd get if I was upgrading, FWIW.

Deads don't need a ton of training to get better if you're squatting routinely - you'll prob come in stronger for the extra time off :)

Yuppers bro. Getting that GS4 on Thursday

I'm gonna go ahead and skip it. You're right about time off equating to better strength. At times like this I end up performing very well later on. But I love my DL days now ever since I hit five hundo and hate missing them. Back to the grinder tomorrow- bench day...

I worked up to 505 on the 4th and it felt HEAVY :(

I'll chalk it up to being off cycle & over 15lbs lighter than when I pulled 535, but I don't think I could have pulled 535 the other day. Mayb 520-5 with some ammonia. Losing weight, even if it's fat, is so lousy for strength. I'd like to pull 545 before I go on cycle again. Patience & persistence....

That's what I like about 531. It's realistic small goals that over months become giant strength gains. When you get to a certain point in training you realize its a marathon not a sprint, and even adding ten lbs a month or less is statistically significant

Exactly. I talk to people who start programs and then I tell them look at how much this programs your doing has you adding to your max this year. Some people Are going to be +500 pounds a year. Even 5-3-1 at 120 on DL/squat and 60 bench/OHP is a lot.

Yep. Take that into a three year stretch and you'll be lifting with the pros if all goes according to plans

Exactly. I mean I would have a 900 pound pull... LOL.

Thing is almost no program is sustainable as you actually progress. Sure you can add a ton of weight when you start. At an intermediate level it slows down. As a pro every couple pounds is hard to get I'm sure. Form becomes way more important than muscle.

Agreed. Realistically you won't be pulling 900 in a couple years. You'll eventually reach a physical limit and stagnate. But the point remains, slow and steady wins the race

I was just proving that even a program that is considered realistic like 5-3-1 is unrealistic long long term. Now I just need some private Russian trainers and lots of steroids...

I think ill run 5-3-1 and then after this year cut back to 2.5 and 5 on my training max additions each cycle if my gains slow down and catch up. My real max in deads actually increased more than my training max has in 5 months.

We will all eventually stop making strength gains in one area or another from time to time. But not to worry, everyone plateaus at some point. That's when we all usually change training strategies. I'm waiting till after my birthday in January to switch shyt up...

Not sure if you have the book or not Country, but here's the man who wrote 531 and his perspective...

Here's more Wendler:

Stalling in 5/3/1
You'll eventually come to a point where you can't make any more progress on a lift. You won't be able to hit the sets and reps you're supposed to hit, and the weights will start to get too heavy. When this happens, I simply take 90% of my max (either a 1RM or a rep max) and start all over again.
For example, let's say I did 205x4 on my military press when I first started the program. Using
the rep-max calculator, my estimated max would be 230 pounds. Since I started with 10% less,
my beginning max would be 210. Over the course of six months, I worked up to a rep max of 185x10. This puts my estimated max at 245. Now, I'll take 10% of 245 (220), and begin to work my way up again. This is a matter of taking three steps forward and one step back.
You may stall out with one lift before you do with the others. When this happens, you only need to decrease the one stalled lift. If you're stalling out on multiple lifts, and you feel like everything is catching up with you, take a deload week and recalculate your maxes.
If you're really starting out with 10% less than your actual maxes, you can expect to go through 5-7 cycles at a minimum before you stall out. I've gone through 8 before having to back off.

^ Exactly what Wendler wrote. Also, diet, perfecting technique, changing other variables-can help break the plateau.

Thanks man. No I need to get the book. I don't think I found it when I looked last on scribd.

I actually remember I saved it now. Guess what im reading at work... Haha.

Wendler is so f'n cool. Just as an author, he amuses the hell out of me.

On the "I'm not doing jack **** today" accessory template:

"It's accessory work. It doesn't f*%king matter."

Gawd dammit my boss told me shave last week and I ignored her. Now I have no choice. She said as long as it doesn't connect. WTF does that even mean? If I shave my head can I still keep my beard? I don't know what I'm gonna do tomorrow...

Sad day :(

Not too sad, you have an iPhone, you don't have to shave EVERYTHING anymore and you're putting on some size. I say it could be worse.

Hey.. Ur lucky enough to grow facial hair like that. My Asian genes keepin me hairless on my face haha .

and **** your beard too! lol

I'm going going to shave with a rusty razor and go to medical and get a shaving chit

If I grew my beard like brandon lilly I'd officially never get ass, not so much from the beard as me taking it upon myself to enter a perma-bulk of mcdonalds & dunken donuts until I hit lilly's 308 weight class cap. At which point I would still be considerably weaker than the main man himself. And now I'd be fat to boot ;)

The up-side is, after all that McDonald's, you could have heart surgery and end up like CT Fletcher. Still yo' mutha-fukkin set!

Fletcher is sick. Even if that dude is full of bs & juiced his whole life (and jeez look at those traps) his physique now is just incredible. With or without gear, I'm envious as hell. Not of his modified heart valves & tons of meds, just the physique :)

You should shave your eyebrows too and see how she reacts. For funsies.

Nah that's cool. I'm good, thanks

**** your facial hair

Jealous much

Dammit I forgot to get my lifts on video again. I don't care if y'all don't believe me but it'd be nice to have some critiquing

SQUAT 531 DAY
295, 335, 395
10@bar, 5@135, 5@185, 3@225, 5@295, 3@335, 5@400 YUT!
BACK EXT + LEG PRESS
10@25+12@12plates X 5

Got out of work late again. Only had 30 minutes to smash weights after changing over in the locker room. Cardio and abs in the morning before work but its a well deserved rest day. Feel like I could've done more at 400, maybe 8. I shouldn't have put the bar away so soon. Everything felt so heavy leading up to 400 that when I got up to it I honestly didn't think I was even going to get one rep. All in all a good sesh for a short time period

Shoot. Just realized my numbers were off. I keep forgetting to transfer the spreadsheet data to my iPhone and end up forgetting what my lifts are supposed to be. Oh well, next cycle I'll get it down. Two more workouts then deload week then cycle 2 begins. Yay
